  • “Home Alone” was one of the most successful Christmas films of all time. In 1992, just two years later, the sequel was released in cinemas: In "Home Alone 2: Lost in New York", Kevin McCallister is not forgotten at home, but accidentally gets on a plane to New York City - while his family flies to Florida. In this video I show you the filming locations in the "Big Apple". And of course the Plaza Hotel, Central Park and many other iconic places are also part of this tour.

7:11 you miss one thing, The statue mount is still there, You can see where they had mount it. 28:43 since you pinpoint that, In high def you can clearly see those are fake from a re-master video. I think they re-created that to make time for shooting. Since it is a busy location, It would make since that they had to do it to move production faster.

Great video. Home Alone, Nintendo, Sega Genesis, made the early 90's a very exciting time to be a kid. I remember it like it was yesterday.

One of the few sequels that despite lacking originality, still managed to entertain as good as the original.

    Really well done!
I applaud the World Trade Center appreciation you have shown. Much more respectful than what I would have expected from a home alone video.
Also, the tunnel scene really seems to have had been recreated. There’s just so much that’s different that’s not likely to have just changed from the actual location. I’m sure the director (or whoever decides) thought the location looked nice but needed a better layout or maybe they just couldn’t film there because of scheduling or whatever.
A few years ago we had a flight transfer at Ohare airport in Chicago. And it was such a cool thing to walk through the airport where they filmed those scenes. It looks almost identical still monies a few modern additions.
    Great job brother!

Home alone and home alone 2 lost in New York was the best christmas films for childreen. Macaulay Culkin was a very sweet boy. Chris Columbus and John Hughes was very great. Rest in peace John Hughes.😢😢😢

Once again. Delightful Matthias. The work you put into these videos is extraordinary including the planning and plotting of you saying to us Merry Christmas in the middle of summer in Jersey City knowing way back then that this was your Christmas episode. Thank you and Merry Christmas and Happy New Year. "2024? Oh, Jesus." so funny there at the end.

Thank for showing all of this. Too many changes in New York City, and in the U.S. in general. I don't know why people change things. To me, the past looks better than now. I would have left everything the same.

26:00 - So, I have researched this topic: the tunnel was reproduced in the studio to make it easier to film with pigeons...and it actually makes sense. In fact, if you pay close attention, there is something artifactual in that frame. It reminds me a little bit of the Mary Poppins sets, I don't know if I'm making the point. As a child you didn't pay attention to it, now it's quite obvious.
That explains the nonexistent stairs, the shorter tunnel, and the different stones. 😉

    • @Mutexop
      @Mutexop 2 месяца назад +1

it also makes sense they added the stairs so the pigeon lady wouldn't have to maneuver down uneven rocks if they recreated it identically

@@Mutexop Exactly! A month ago I visited NY and went to see that tunnel live (as well as visiting other film locations). The tunnel was exactly as I said in my comment 5 months ago: it was reproduced in the studio. Is very similar but they simply took inspiration from it.

Nice coverage.of the locations. And most of the tunnel stuff was definitely filmed at a studio recreation. Aside from the clearly shorter tunnel length (one overhead light in the movie vs three in the park), you can tell it's an indoor stage by the clean sound recording and detailed lighting design in the scenes. (BTW, the alley scene was also shot in Chicago.)

What they've done with the facade of this magnificent landmark is nothing short of awful. It used to be so warm and lively.

At least in 1999 you also couldn't go to the roof of the World Trade Center, they had a similar observation deck. They probably got some special permission to film on the roof.

I saw one youtuber's video where he stayed at that hotel, and it really is going downhill. Even he ordered an expensive room (tower room if i good remember) but he had to change to the other one. There were problems with hot water, stained furniture, and so on

I do wish to mention, hopefully without sounding rude: limousine has the final i pronounced as the German “ie”(zB hier) rather than German “i”(zB the i in bitte). Your English is still much better than my German.

Like I said in the video: The address is real - but you won‘t find the house from the movie there.
