@@dakotacoggins6700 I don't know if I can put it all in one comment, but I would say there should be a lot of emphasis on carbs (I ate so many potatoes and sweet potatoes; rice was my fav treat lol). The early part of my diet was just potatoes. Then once I got better I was able to add other plant based foods (fruits, vegetables, legumes, beans, lentils, grains). If you wanna talk lmk.
But I find it so deceptive when they do vegan and vegetarian studies, we just know for sure they aren't eating flesh... but it says nothing about what they ARE eating. A real WFPB diet compared to a crappy vegan diet of say soda, fries, processed CRAP (calorie rich and processed) and oreos is worlds apart healthwise, yet the distinction is rarely made or tested!
The Epic Oxford study does share micro and macro nutrient totals for participants. We can use some of these values as proxy measurements for whole and minimally processed plant food intake. For example, daily fiber consumption which turned out to be nearly the same among participating vegans, vegetarians, and omnivores. I think vegans/vegetarians we're getting an average of 20g per day and omnivores we're getting 19g per day. So, this likely means that that participating vegans and vegetarians eat a lot of processed junk.
I am with you! Newer studies should really not only differentiate between vegans & vegetarians but also between the whole foods vegans and vegans. And not forget the no-oil vegans vs. the whole food vegans because when it comes to fight (!) -not prevent necessarily- heart disease & certain autoimmune diseases that is a vital criteria and makes all the difference.
I eat a fairly CRAP Vegan diet… and my numbers are still amazing! Much healthier levels of everything compared to when I ate animals and their secretions/eggs. I’m sure my numbers would be even better on a WFPB diet, but I went vegan for the animals, not for my health. Of course, all the additional side benefits are fantastic, not only for my health but for the planet, as well 💪🏽🤩🥳

In addition to consuming additional calcium and vitamin D, doing weight bearing exercises and consuming soy (for its estrogen-raising effects) helps as well. Edit 3: If you consume fortified soy milk, you can get soy protein, calcium, vitamin d, and vitamin b-12 all in one go. These are vitamins and minerals often deficient in vegans, so this is an easy way to take care of a lot of needs in one go. Just check the label of your soy milk before you buy it.

Sharon Rose if you want to fix your weight issues you need to let go and eat unlimited healthy carbs. Fruit is best. Let your body gain and recover. Do weight training. Get strong. Sleep a lot. Don’t restrict carbs. Check out Stephanie Buttermore channel. She is not vegan, and eats some junk and plenty of fat, but still her end result after going all in she looks incredible. Some curves on woman are beautiful. But I bet if Stephanie had just allowed herself unlimited fruit and carbs and still kept the fat low (which is easy when you eat enough carbs), she would be thinner than she is now, but still I think it’s all what you are going for. I think Stephanie looks amazing at her weight. Restricting calories to loose weight will always keep you up and down snd crazy feeling mentally.

I love eating veg and plant food but I don't eat meat at all and my bones are strong as I have had them check out as I then take lots of vitiams from the heathfood store so I feel happy after all work well and have no problem in the end .Thank you.
Among my friends & families, there are so many vegetarian grandpas & grandmas, especially grannies who lived into their 90s, who were active & didn't even have a bone fracture all life in spite of age-related falls.
I'm an omnivore, but I found that when I started eating beans every day, my desire to drink milk completely vanished. I still eat cheese, but it's because I like cheese. I've always liked broccoli but I don't think I get enough from that alone.
for sure, apart from anything else, it was also because your protein needs were being better met by the beans and so you didn't need the protein from milk as much...

Those are the two most satiating things in the diet that make a person feel less hungry. I used to eat beans and bread for lunch every day, but now it's been burritos. I eat 2 for lunch at 11:00 or so and can go to 6:00 without feeling very hungry.

Two days ago my doctor called to tell me I have osteoporosis especially in my hip. I am afraid to take the alendronate 70 mg prescribed, and read of many horror stories related to it causing the very fractures it's supposed to prevent. I am 66 years old and had a hysterectomy on my 19th birthday due to ovarian cancer, so I've been postmenopausal for decades longer than the average woman my age, thus at higher risk for osteoporosis and fractures. Dr Greger, can you make sense of these reports on Alendronate? One big question that has come up for me is that I have found some bottled water has a very low PH of 5.5. I have been a very heavy consumer of Aquafina at a PH of 5.5 (very acidic). How much damage does this do to our bones????? Am very alarmed!!!

I've been vegetarian for a long time, plant-based/vegan for a few years, am slightly overweight (technical terminology) (I have low metabolism), and was recently diagnosed with osteoporosis. I'm well under 60. So being overweight is not helping me at all.
In a new study from the German Federal Institute for Risk Assessment (BfR), the bone health of 36 vegans as well as 36 people following a mixed-food diet was determined with an ultrasound measurement of the heel bone. The result: on average, people following a vegan diet had lower ultrasound values compared to the other group. This indicates poorer bone health. So what? It doesn't make much sense to me to say that an omnivore who eats poorly has worse bones than a vegetarian who eats well. It's obvious. The key point is that an omnivore who eats properly (without preserved meat etc.) and has a great lifestyle has better bones than a vegan who has the same lifestyle. It is indisputable: without meat and dairy products, bones are worse.
I don't believe so mainly because our bones are made up of the minerals and the average Americans on a diet does not provide mineral since most do not eat adequate amounts of green leafy vegetables have the minerals. Any vegan who understands the body and food relationship would be eating a lot of vegetables

Not sure of the answer but I was told by our allergist that rapidly developed vaccines i.e. flu are incubated in egg. That is why my daughter who's anaphylactic to egg cannot take the flu shot.
Look into the best time tested approaches (confirmed by modern scientific investigations as well): Cissus quadrangularis and Eucommia Bark are very good herbs for bone structure, as well as natural anti-inflammatory and cleansing herbs, such as Indian myrrh extract (guggulu) and Indian frankincense, and black sesame seeds and prunes (and other high flavanoid foods in general). It doesn't make much sense to me to say that an omnivore who eats poorly has worse bones than a vegetarian who eats well. It's obvious. The key point is that an omnivore who eats properly (without preserved meat etc.) and has a great lifestyle has better bones than a vegan who has the same lifestyle. It is indisputable: without meat and dairy products, bones are worse.
moreover, traditional Chinese medicine claims that the vegan diet depletes the bone marrow together with the energy of the kidneys.
Factor in the other diseases from consuming meat and dairy and WFPB diet wins every time 😊

I don't believe so mainly because our bones are made up of the minerals and the average Americans on a diet does not provide mineral since most do not eat adequate amounts of green leafy vegetables have the minerals. Any vegan who understands the body and food relationship would be eating a lot of vegetables

Are the studies that show advantages to vegan diets over omnivore diets ever subjected to this level of scrutiny here? There is so much confirmation bias in every one of these communities. I think we need new names to reflect the religious status: Ketowennies vs the veganites.

Not sure of the answer but I was told by our allergist that rapidly developed vaccines i.e. flu are incubated in egg. That is why my daughter who's anaphylactic to egg cannot take the flu shot.
