The Best Picture lineup in 2020 was one of best in years. Parasite, The Irishman, 1917, Marriage Story, Jojo Rabbit, Once Upon a Time... in Hollywood, Joker, Ford V Ferrari, Little Women.
Yea, it’s good. I enjoyed Marriage Story more than I like to admit. Ford v Ferrari is my favorite so far. I haven’t seen Parasite, Jo-Jo Rabbit or Little Women.
@@timgriffin3368 It was okay. I didn’t really like the final act. Felt like things got way too chaotic to the point the story was no longer believable. I loved the rest of the movie though.
Parasite had a shit ton of passion, I don’t think I’ve seen anything like it before. I knew it was winning Best Picture as soon as they got that standing ovation at SAG when they were introducing the movie.
I love your passion for Marriage Story. Behind Parasite, I thought it was the best movie of the year. I hope Scarlett Johansson and Adam Driver get another shot at Oscar glory one day.
I personally was very happy about that year's Oscars. Went crazy after the complete Parasite sweep, although after many RUclips reviews I was already prepared to be upset by 1917 sweeping everything instead (not a bad movie dgmw, but it's nowhere near as good as Parasite). Was heavily rooting for OUaTiH to win Supporting Actor and for Joker to win Actor and Score - got it too. The only two wins that left me with "ok I guess" reaction were both Actress nominations. Scarlett was my one and only pick for lead actress, and I haven't changed my mind even after watching "Judy". She and Adam were both indescribably amazing in their roles and it's a shame it wasn't recognized with an award. And because I have humongous bias for Joker and didn't want anyone but Joaquin to win, I really hoped that at least Scarlett would get an Oscar. Now my Supporting Actress pick was unpopular to say the least lol. She didn't obviously get anywhere on her own, and it's kinda understandable, but for me it was Park So-dam with no competition whatsoever. I don't know. I just really-really liked her in Parasite.
The Shaun the Sheep movie got nominated for Animated Feature at this year’s Oscars but I think it got a BAFTA nomination last year because it came out in the UK in 2019.
Parasite, Hollywood and 1917 were like 2005: Million Dollar Baby and Parasite: Oscar The Aviator and 1917: GG, BAFTA & PGA Sideways and Once Upon a Time in Hollywood: GG and CC
I personally thought that Marriage Story should've gotten best picture. I was fine with Parasite winning. I loved Marriage story and I think that it should've won the 2 main acting awards, I don't think Laura Dern should've won. Scar Jo and Adam yes.
My Acting Race picks outta the nominees would be: Joaquin Phoenix, Charlize Theron, Tom Hanks, and Margot Robbie or Laura Dern My Acting picks in general however wouldve been: Joaquin Phoenix or Adam Sandler, Charlize Theron or Lupita Nyong'o, Tom Hanks, and Margott Robbie or Laura Dern or Thomisen Mackenzie (Scarlett was ok but Thomisen was fantastic)
1917 VFX were great, but losing to Star Wars IX was ridiculous. But that how these awards work, if the movie isn't good no matter if it deserves or not to win, it won't. However First Man rightfully took the award. It has sublilme VFX, even better than Avengers Infinity War.
This was one of the strongest years of the century so far. In hindsight, even the few who loved the movie have to accept The Irishman, which had so little SINCERE love behind it, clogged up the nominations and really had no business among the rest other than a couple categories. Certainly not enough to keep Greta and the Safdies out of the Director slot, and really not enough to keep Knives Out out of the film slot. Joker was a weird phenomenon but deserved its Best Picture nod and while Pheonix should have won for the Master rather than Joker and Adam Driver should have won this year, Pheonix still gives a top performance in Joker that it's hard to be angry about. Zellweger was a joke. Biopics are a joke and this was the token Oscar for an impression. Saoirse Ronan, Lupita Nyongo'o and Jessie Buckley all gave generational performances and were spurned for an impression winner, and another impression in nominations - Theron's nom is just as ugh as Zellweger.
Didn’t this year result in a change of rules for who could get nominated for Score because John Williams reused so many previous scores for Rise of Skywalker?
I actually don't get how Missing Link won the Golden Globe or how it and HTTYD3 were nominated over Frozen II. In my opinion it should have actually won, quite ahead of even Toy Story 4. Klaus and I Lost My Body were good, but I didn't think they were that good.
@@mathemachickenmadge2963 Everything that is connected to art can never be objectified completely, really. I, personally, consider Parasite to be the best movie I've ever seen in my life (better than The Godfather, The Great Dictator, V for Vendetta and Back to the Future, which I all consider to be my strong top-5). Many people won't agree and have other movies as "the best". And none of us will be wrong.... Unless they say it's "Cats" or "Music". Then they are wrong and should get professional help.
The Zellweger win MASSIVELY drags it down IMO. Appalling in-house, in-industry decisions for a movie nobody realistically liked. The word went out and it was locked.
There needs to be a 10 year moratorium on Acting awards going to biopics. It's beyond tired at this point and Zellweger and Theron here are nearly as bad as the Malik win and the 2021 Smith/Chastain double. Impressions are not elite performances.

I agree with you that it’s one of the best lineups in years, although I do think Joker and Ford v Ferrari drag the lineup down a bit
This is like The Oscar Expert’s Awards Retrospective videos.
They just repeat what happened.
This Oscar Race was so memorable.
Parasite had a shit ton of passion, I don’t think I’ve seen anything like it before. I knew it was winning Best Picture as soon as they got that standing ovation at SAG when they were introducing the movie.
I deadass think Parasite is one of the top 3 movies of all time ... Like it's such a fkn clean film they nailed every fkn second of it holy fk

Just throwing it out there, Banderes also got the GG nomination
I love Oscar Retrospectives like this.
What will your reaction be if Yuh-Jung Youn won Best Supporting Actress at the Oscars?
They got most of the categories right.
The Shaun the Sheep movie got nominated for Animated Feature at this year’s Oscars but I think it got a BAFTA nomination last year because it came out in the UK in 2019.
Awesome video, hope you do this again soon for 2018!
Parasite, Hollywood and 1917 were like 2005:
Million Dollar Baby and Parasite: Oscar
The Aviator and 1917: GG, BAFTA & PGA
Sideways and Once Upon a Time in Hollywood: GG and CC
When will you and the Oscar expert collab
I almost feel bad for Sam Mendes he literally did everything right
Lupita Nyongo was totally snubbed! 2020 had so many snubs.
For sure would love too see more content like this.
Banderas also had the Globe nomination.

Shit you right lol don’t know how I missed that😂
Please do the 2019 version. 2018 and 2017 if possible. 2017 is an AMAZING for films! So many wonderful films, that year was so stacked!

The Big snub for me was Adam Sandler for uncut gems

for the Q&A: what are your favorite films from 2010-2019?
Didn’t this year result in a change of rules for who could get nominated for Score because John Williams reused so many previous scores for Rise of Skywalker?
I don’t know for sure if that’s why, but I heard they changed the rules in 2020 so that must have been why
2019 was the best year for movies since I am into cinema

I mean John Williams is like the goat composer so I can’t blame em
Do you like tofu
Parasite is a top 10 movie of all time
Is it though?

I can't blame your passion for Parasite. When I saw it, I thought this is a masterpiece; one of the best movies I've ever seen. 🤯
There are many such international movies like that.
Probably the best Oscars in 20 years.

@@fromomelastocarcosa3575 Yeah, it was typical of her to be nominated let alone win. Lupita deserved it that year, sadly she didnt even get in.
Finally someone said it about renee zellweger
Renée was amazing. I think she really deserved.

Taron Egerton wasn't snubbed. Nobody's entitled to a nomination. Besides, I think even Leonardo Dicaprio and Price were better. All sublime though.
Dafoe still doesn't have his Oscar academy you need to fix this 😠
The Lighthouse if it were in color full screen maybe.
Question for the Q and A:What is your favorite oscar win of all time? What about least favorite
Parasite is a good movie but that it. It a bit overrated.
I some what Agree. I think the film is perfect until the 3rd act where it rushes to a pretty alright conclusion.
It's extremely overrated
