Great interview! Ian Crichton is one of my all-time favorite guitar players! He is so creative and unique. I was hooked on Saga from the first moment I heard "On the Loose" on the radio in late 1981 or so. :-D
People talk about great guitarists, but Ian is truly overlooked. This guy was a shredder before many of the well known ones came along. But what makes him special is the fact that he's a well rounded guitarist that can manipulate the guitar to sound the way he wants it to and the song requires.
I just listened to some Six by Six songs tonight, and I think they are really great! I hope that Six by Six comes to Northern California some time because I will definitely go to see them!!!
I was at the Brock concert too. I couldn’t remember if Saga and The Spoons was two separate concerts. I guess it was one night….thanks for clearing that up.
I would love to have seen Saga playing with Kansas, on US Tour, but Kansas does a 2 plus hour show because of so much material. Would be a cool double bill, maybe in a Prog Festival.
I am from Puerto Rico. I can attest to that, Puerto Rico had been for Saga, if not their best market, is one of their best markets, puerto ricans love SAGA. I believe Germany is another market that SAGA had been a favorite.
thanks for pointing that out. Very cool how they love Saga so much in Puerto Rico and Germany. They did pretty well in Canada but they have a European sound.
There should be someone who convinces Ian to make a tutorial video of his guitar playing - and/or guitar lessons for the greatest Saga hits. Wouldn't you be perfect for that? ;-) . In my youth, I tried to figure out Ian's solos by listening to recordings on vinyl and cassettes(!!!). It took years, and I am still far from getting it right.
Great video dean thanks for sharing but Michael was very 80s pop rock after behaviour album and wildest dreams the human condition was very different from what are doing but if Michael left in early 90s and rob replaced him then i would say saga would be balls again like late 70s early 80s albums but i would recommend the human condition was best of saga very progressive metal if they had rob in early 90s saga would been there for the music and with bands especially generation 15 album very concept you should listen to that album good key tracks. Good news geddy book is on your way enjoy reading it thanks!
Abrazo grande

I was so stoked to have interviewed him. Big fan here too

oh I agree completely, he was a pioneer shredder.
