- ALTEA - Full tour of beautiful Altea, Alicante, Spain
Altea, a holiday destination between Benidorm and Calpe, and nestled on Spain's sun-kissed Costa Blanca, beckons with its unique blend of historical charm, vibrant culture, and breathtaking natural beauty. It's a place where time seems to slow down, allowing visitors and residents alike to savor the simple pleasures of Mediterranean life. Imagine a town where the scent of orange blossoms mingles with the salty tang of the sea air, where the rhythmic clinking of masts in the harbor harmonizes with the lively chatter in the local plazas. That's Altea.
Dominating the town's landscape is its captivating old town, a vision of whitewashed houses cascading down a hilltop towards the azure waters of the Mediterranean. This historic quarter is a labyrinth of narrow, cobbled streets, each turn revealing a new vista of stunning architecture and hidden courtyards. The centerpiece of this picturesque scene is undoubtedly the Parroquia de Nuestra Señora del Consuelo, its iconic blue-domed roof a symbol of Altea and a beacon visible from afar. Inside, the church boasts intricate stained glass windows and ornate Baroque altars, reflecting the town's rich religious heritage. As you wander through the old town, you'll discover a treasure trove of art galleries showcasing local talent, quaint craft shops offering unique souvenirs, and a plethora of restaurants serving up delectable Mediterranean cuisine. The air is often filled with the sounds of Spanish guitar music and the animated conversations of locals and tourists mingling in the squares.
Altea's coastal location blesses it with a string of beautiful beaches, each with its own distinct character. From the bustling shores lined with chiringuitos (beach bars) offering refreshing drinks and tapas, to the more secluded coves perfect for a quiet afternoon of sunbathing and swimming, there's a beach to suit every taste. The crystal-clear waters invite you to take a dip, while the golden sands provide a comfortable spot to relax and soak up the Mediterranean sun. Water sports enthusiasts can indulge in activities like windsurfing, kayaking, and paddleboarding, while those seeking a more tranquil experience can enjoy a leisurely boat trip along the coast, taking in the stunning views of Altea's coastline and the surrounding mountains. The marina, a hub of activity, is home to a variety of yachts and fishing boats, and offers a lively atmosphere with its waterfront bars and restaurants.
Beyond its visual appeal, Altea possesses a rich tapestry of history and culture. The town's roots stretch back centuries, with evidence of settlements dating back to the Bronze Age. Throughout its history, Altea has been influenced by various civilizations, including the Romans and the Moors, each leaving their mark on the town's architecture, traditions, and cuisine. This diverse heritage is celebrated in Altea's numerous festivals, which take place throughout the year. From religious processions to lively street parties, these festivals offer a glimpse into the heart of Altean culture and provide an opportunity to experience the town's vibrant spirit. The friendly and welcoming nature of the locals, known as Alteanos, further enhances the town's charm, making it a place where visitors feel instantly at home. Whether you're seeking a relaxing beach holiday, a cultural immersion, or simply a taste of the Mediterranean lifestyle, Altea has something to offer everyone.

How are the roads in the back country in the Costa Blanca area (Benidorm, Alicante, Torrevieja) if you, as a cycling exerciser, would like to use these areas for good experiences and training. I suppose there are places where you can rent a bike.
