- In this beautiful video, the majestic expertise of authentic masters of marble carving is shown.
The full size replica, entirely hand carved, of the Apollo & Daphne by Lorenzo Bernini is here recreated as in the most traditional technique.
no matter how much i look at it i still can’t wrap my head around stone carving-the ability to turn a stone into a piece of art is and forever will be amazing; i have nothing but respect for artists
Awesome newspaper hat.
yes and no protection whatsoever just fucking awesome
And the guy will outlive most health freaks.
paper hat man just gives no shits and it's great
It's actually carved from a special marble that has a black and white vein pattern which happens to look just like news print. It took 7 months to carve and polish.
Don't judge a newspaper hat by it's cover. They all fold and wear them, even when they come to America. Simple talented hard working men, they visualize 3 steps ahead.
As much as I admire this man's talent in recreating the statue, censoring a Bernini statue is just insulting
your feelings mean nothing, to him or me or anyone else. Just letting you know
Ice Carpenter your opinion doesn't matter to anyone either...just letting you know
I agree 100%. I stopped and had to rewind to see what the clay was for. Couldn't freaking believe it. Travesty. Not watching the rest of it. Bad taste in my mouth.
Do you realy think its only him? The individual mind is just one of a huge amount of people.
Arιa a Your comment just shows how intolerant you are. And proves that no matter how much talent a person has, there will always be someone who will find insult in his work. If you are so insulted, just order yourself a true copy and pay for these people's skills from your own pocket.
Can you imagine how the did it in Michelangelo's time? With no power tools? crazy.
And no newspaper hats! I mean can you imagine the hardship!?
Often apprentices will rough out the piece and the master will do the finishing. The more famous you become the more apprentices you'll get. A lot of great work is done by unknown artists.
Slaves
Michael Hogan Giuliano Finelli, from Bernini's workshop, is thought ( not all the experts agree) to have done a lot of the bark and leaves and flowing hair on Daphne.
egparis18 Well done for the research work. If you look up a certain Grinling Gibbons (actually of Flemish descent), a breathtaking woodcarver in England in the late 17th century, you’ll learn that he had a workshop in London- that tragically burned down- with over 400 carvers under his command. You need only take it a step further to understand his prolific output. However, in the finer details you can always feel the Master’s touch. Another interesting case is that of Rodin, and his “apprentice”/mistress, Camille Claudel. She surpassed him (which he was fully aware of) but never really got her due. She died tragically, and was totally neglected by her brother- a very famous French author. History resounds with a deafening roar of silence around hidden talents. One could go on forever over injustices. I believe you’re a cultured gentleman; it’s a pleasure to come across finer people. Best regards.
This just makes old sculptures even more incredible
From now on i will never be able to see the David without imagining michelangelo wearing a newspaper hat while sculpting it.
Daily Male
Gengarin
LOL
Michelangelo wore a marble hat that looked like paper, it's true, I saw a broken one in the Louve. maybe
Unbelievable! I read a long time ago that the sculptors whose names we admire never actually cut marble and only created the image leaving the hard work to stonecutters, but I never saw them at work. Fantastic! Copying a marble masterpiece using just basic tools is beyond belief! Great artistry! Thank you for the skilled artisans and to whoever ordered this copy. Good job, sheikh!
Where did you read that and how credible was the author?
Just basic tools? I don't know if you watched the video but they used all modern pneumatic power tools.
This video cannot be real. The time, skill, and the cost is incredible. In 2020, it is amazing to watch.
I am in awe of their talent. I wish I could also make one of those newspaper hats
Wow! This is incredible. Just wow
Seems like the most challenging art form. The subtractive process leaves no room for error. Patience and confidence are essential.
Wow! This is what you call a true master at work!
I was distracted from the amazing artistry by the man’s fashionable newspaper hat
I've always loved sculptures. It was great to see a beautiful majestic marble one being made💗
I love the crucifix on the wall - beautiful work
We are here for a VERY LIMITED TIME! Work the stone every day like it's your last, yet knowing you will create forever...❤
IT'S OVER ANAKIN
I HAVE THE HIGH GROUND
I HATE YOU!
@@lutaria16 YOU WERE MY BROTHER ANAKIN!
i just love his hat, old school is the best,in life, and so REAL he is
The music sounds very close to the Star Wars theme. The carving is amazing .
I was looking this comment!! I thought it was just my imagination
patience and perseverance and lots of technical skill. a joy to watch.
mi sono emozionata...tutto questo talento...tutto questo amore...complimenti e grazie.
Wonderful Video.
It is very delightful to see an art in creation.
Creating process of an art is nothing but a type of meditation.
There is no space for any mistake.
This is why everybody has a great respect for artist of any kind.
Complimenti vivissimi maestro.....opera magnifica!
Watching this modern butchery of stone, makes one realize what unbelievble hardships the old masters had to go thru to deliver masterpieces as we know them
Butchery? How?
In the past a successful Master would have plenty of young apprentices to populate his work shop. Happy to learn, eager to help and do the removal of excess rock before things get more serious. Today these young people seem to spend much time playing on their smartphones and power tools replaced them. Also modern social protection laws make it much more difficult to have many of such helpers in Europe.
Amazing work. I can't imagine being that skilled. But why the need to censor the original when copying?
Per request of the customer who commissioned the piece, I suspect. An ignorant prude with more money than sense.
@@meadmaker4525 The customer is likely a gulf-state hotel. They want to look like sophisticated Europeans, but unfortunately they're filled with people who would vandalise a nude "haram" statue.
@@phillycheesetake That's what I call tolerance. :3
imagine what a pain it was for them to move a giant rock like that back in the Renaissance
I don't think so, they were using an other way i think, it's impossible to move it without machines.
there were their techniques.
Eric Vargas not too hard, they had many slaves. :/
They just built a circular wooden frame around it, and rolled it around like a giant wheel. Most of the journey was usually done by boat as well...
They also knew about cranes and pulley systems. They weren't as backward as we might think.
This wasn't from the Renaissance. Bernini was a Baroque sculptor, from the period immediately following the High Renaissance.
they did alot of things in sections as well
Ohhhh my God! I wish to live in this workshop forever. This is amazing life
Esto es un trabajo deleznable. Además de rebajar la calidad artística del original en los detalles (como los rostros), el hecho de "vestir" a la figura de Dafne me parece un acto de censura inconcebible.
Good video 📹
It bothers me that he's not wearing a dust mask or respirator
Yeah he'll never get to old age working like that. Oh, wait.
some lungs just arent stopped so easily
hamilton harper In fact it is 28 years old, it looks like this because of the damage caused by breathing marble dust
mrbr, marble particles are heavy and quite big. He'll be fine. He's also using one heck of a dust extractor.
Maybe he'll die of his sins.....
wouaaahhhh ! êtes-vous la réincarnation de Michel-Ange ! respect pour vous ... bravo ! 👍🏻🙏
thumbs up for the epic hat alone... the talent is gravy
Wow !!! Wonderful !!!
God is first born in to the world through the eyes of an artist.
Many thanks oh my God !!!!
Сколько труда, чтобы создать такую красоту?! Великолепно.
I can think of nothing more fascinating than watching a master at work. It doesn't matter if it's cooking, sculpting or a musical instrument...it's enthralling. Having said that, covering a semi nude statue to match puritanical ideals is ridiculous.
I admire this mans hard work and live his newspaper hat
I am IN AWE...!!! BEAUTIFUL and his hat .. Awesome
This music is better than most. At least theirs no narration fighting to be heard. I tune it down. I always wondered how Michelangelo got it so smooth. It’s a beautiful piece of art.
wow..such an artistry...so talented... my admiration to all the people there..
I love you ART WORK keep it up thanks for that beautiful work
Astonishing work !
Wow sir!! outstanding. Awesome fabulous.👍👌👌👌
When i see this video, gives me inspiration for one day to do the same.
These artists doing great work.
massive respect for this guy, what he did(even with power tools) single handedly, bernini had made this statue with the help of 150 of his apprentices.
Bernini had - at the height of his fame - 17 apprentices. Where do you come up with 150?
Nothing but awe struck at such a skillful craftsman. I think comments on dust or criticism of not copying the bare breasts of original are designed to veil perhaps envy of the man's ability shown here. Accept it for what it is... amazing skills! Must admit I am envious too😉
...oh but it would be too big to put on your bedside table!
Newspaper hat, the best kind of ppe available
Excellent Work Sir You are a great
I like the way he protected the top of his head from the dust but not his eyes or lungs. Very amusing.
Beautiful work, and what a studio! Still, I worry about his hearing, his lungs, his wrist bones...but not too much, since he's not worried himself.
thats crazy how you care less cuz he doesnt care
Yes, perhaps.
The newspaper hat protects him.
Can't be too bad. He's a hundred and ten years old.
I appreciate how hard this must be to do, but the censorship and the final result just feel kitsch compared to the piece Bernini produced...
horrendous kitsch, yes. the face is just unbelievably bad. modern realistic sculptures make faces completely differently from classical renaissance/old masters art, and forget about ancient greek classical, no comparison. i wonder how many pple see the difference though.
@@lseshomaru544 I noticed instantly, the face looks super weird.
You draped Daphne? Are you kidding me?!
why not ?
The work was commissioned by a Gulf State hotel (see comments below.)
Buy your own statue if you want it uncensored dumb bitch
@@ronnie4661 Are you from a Gulf country? Is that why you're such a misogynist prude?
Yep, because we know better. Money, money, money. Very sad.
This is amazing! I'm hypnotized.
Gran trabajo Maestro!
Quel grand artiste! Quel talent!
You inspire me too do the most beautiful.work I could ever do .you are an amazing .thank u
Não sei o que falar diante desse talento... Estou sem palavras.
Imagine o gênio de Bernini que fez inúmeras esculturas nesse padrão e apenas no braço.
Stunning work
Amazing work.
Is this music a rearrangement of Duel of the Fates?
jlg395 literally just thinking the same thing, thought he was gonna start carving Jedi next.
Most likely, they used Duel of Fates as temp music and then asked someone to compose something similar to dodge licensing costs.
@Darth Murika Which piece is that?
That absolute chad with his paper hat: man-handling immortality!
the newspaper hat is a requirement for being able to sculpt this well
Salvator Mundi is my favorite Bernini piece. But the fluidity of this sculpture has to be one of the his best.
Magnificent work wonder how long it took
The hat cracks me up. Nice work!
thank you ! great film
Beautiful... greetings from Denmark.
The hat is the source of his power
It's so great ! ... Can't believe .
molto bella è un'opera di un grande artista e genio
Это что то невероятное.
This is incredible good job
Bravissimo !...wow this guys are hardcore !
INCREÍBLE.. INCREÍBLE... INCREÍBLE..... que mega artista gracias
Woauuuuuuuu!👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏Buenisimoooo,un MAESTRO.
No words can describe its beauty.
Did anyone else notice that Duel of the Fates was playing in the second half.
A master at his work of art
he cares more about his hair than his lung
great work sir
You know you are a true badass when you CARVE MARBLE in slip ons and a newspaper hat.
c'est extraordinaire....
star wars music?
Love the music!
The sculptor was a Jedi trained in Lightsaber carving arts commissioned by the council members but now lives in solitude when the Sith took over...
He's a rock star.
lol
Wow very nice job
This is the art !!!!!!!
My tribute to the great designer.
Incredible... wonderful ❤️👌🌼
Incredible!
I was today years old when I found out that marble came from huge marble mountains. sighs.
beautiful replica. what a magnificent work of art. I wonder how much would something like that cost?
what amazing skill and technique
... spectacular to watch...
Its amazing how they did these statues back in the day, by hand NO power tools
No power tools - less dust in the air.
ABSOLUTELY AMAZING MASTER PIECE!!!
How much if someone wants to buy??
looks amazing!
i came here year after year dreaming to do these things
I wish they had this class back in high school
