No, you’re not experiencing Déjà vu, this is a re-upload due to a manual (and quite random) copyright claim on short clip within the episode. Unfortunately, the claimant disabled all monetization & blocked it in virtually every country/region outside the U.S. I won’t go into the details of said claim, but I decided the best course of action was to re-upload and remove the particular clip rather than wait the 30 days hoping for the dispute to settle. RUclips gave me an option to edit out it, but this resulted in an incredibly jarring mid-sentence jump cut during some important information, as even though the clip contained no audio, I was only given the option to edit both out. Then in my haste to get the video back up, as someone quickly (and thankfully) pointed out, I somehow managed to accidentally mute a portion of the video in another spot, rendering a section near the end…well, incredibly confusing to say the least. So this is a re-upload of that re-upload. I suppose it's fitting given the tediousness of the film we explore in this episode! I apologize for any awkwardness, this was certainly an unexpected situation on my end. But on the bright side, if you happened to miss the original upload, I hope you enjoy! If you did catch it the first time, why not give it another watch?
Oh, did you hear about the new sequel in 3D? It's called The Nightmare Before Christmas: Jack's Existential Crisis. Apparently, it's just 90 minutes of him wondering if he should identify as a skeleton or a pumpkin. Spoiler: The answer is both, but in IMAX 3D, his self-doubt is so vivid you can practically feel the bones shaking.
@@harmonetheanimationaddict4419Actually, if you read the entire pinned comment, it was due to Mark somehow muting a large part of the video when trying to reupload it.
This video is really inspirational as an artist. Tim Burton liked drawing, but couldn't handle people, cute animals and the like. He still had plenty of potential, just not when he was having to draw what others wanted him to. It's not that he was a bad artist, it's that his style and approach were different, and he needed the right opportunity to express it. Difference is embraced, it just needs to be given a chance.

The whole part where Elfman recounts how everyone was saying that Nightmare Before Christmas wasn’t appropriate for kids spoke volumes. It was at that very moment that Burton went back to the early days of being just weird and creepy after being seen as a goldmine. Disney and their attitude towards Nightmare Before Christmas is the equivalent of family members who only take an interest in you when you either get a well paid job or win the lottery. They were boasting about how Nightmare was going to be their first ever full length stop motion film, but then got cold feet and released it under Touchstone. The moment Nightmare made loads of money and got critical acclaim, Disney made it abundantly clear that it was THEIR movie.
I always found it funny how Nightmare before Christmas absolutely spiked in popularity during the early 2000s with scene and emo teens. Suddenly, Disney was pumping out Jack Skellington merch like no tomorrow.
@Finalblue1234 The gatekeeping goths made me genuinely think that Nightmare came out in the 2000s. The fact it was released in 1993 genuinely blew my mind.

58:07 Im not sure thats what Selick meant. I think he just meant the film as a whole was Burton's idea, not that having his name above the title was his.
Third time's the charm, this one's a winner! A video on Monkeybone would be fascinating but I dunno if there's even enough information out there about its production...another big flop absolutely stacked with insane talent, both acting and production-wise!
Watched the movie yesterday for the first time because I saw your video on my sub box.
Definitely worth its praise!
Yesterworld and defunct land in the same week it must be Christmas
I was thinking I wasn't going to have any documentaries to watch tonight, but then you came with this to save my night. Greetings from Brazil and please make some shorter videos about theme parks again as well. I know it requires a lot of work but those 10 - 20 minute videos are very nice to watch too 🙏
Copyrights are a pain to put for RUclips videos, especially for big companies like Disney, but I do like the history of one of my favorite films of all
One of my favorite movies ever! And my 3 year old daughter loves it too.
Very entertaining
Thanks for sharing
I did not not know that Nightmare Before Christmas was literally stuck for years in development hell
Man. 1994 was an ALL TIMER of a movie year and to think, this absolute gem set up the run.
I've been of the opinion of a long time that I don't admire Tim Burton as a director, but as a visual artist he's a fucking legend!
Very fitting I say!
Will give this a like and another watch just for the sake it was an incredible video first time i watched it and giving this re-up the same love.
i'd love to see a full Tim Burton deep dive!
Third time to upload this. Still good job on this documentary. What others history of movies will you try to do next? I might have a few ideas:
. The Chipmunk Adventure
. The Little Mermaid
. Mary Poppins
. Toy Story 1
. The Muppet Movie
Excellent job!
Commenting again since it literally costs me nothing and definitely helps you.
Thank you :)
Will you make the history of Cartoon Network after this video? ⬛️⬜️
Disney must be an evil company if they don’t want us to watch this masterpiece documentary. Love the video, hope it stays this time
This video is great❤ thank you I really enjoyed it
A deep dive in to pee wee and beetle juice would be really interesting!
Love this video!
I first became interested in TNBC from Kingdom Hearts. I'd heard of the movie but had never watched it but ended up watching it after beating KH1 and ended up loving it.
Such an incredible video.
6:00 "In-betweeners" draw the frames of animation that are "in-between" key frames. Nothing necessarily to do with close ups and action shots, moreso the actual movements between key poses
Gotta watch a third time to keep those views up, we got you yesterworld
That painting at 2:00 is totally "Hieronymus Bosch" + flying saucers.
I'm sorry some numptyhead has caused you to lose all the momentum on your original video. :/ I'll play it out in full later, to help re-boost the numbers; but for now, here's a like and a comment for engagement!
Sucks this had to be done, did see the original. But don't think I commented, so I will. Best summary is:
A Burton idea, made possible with Selick's execution. Both deserving of credit in equal measure
