Here's how to turn off auto-update on your macbook:
1. Click that Apple logo in the top left corner of your macbook
2. Go to "System Settings"
3. Go to "Software Update"
4. Click on the "i" symbol in "Automatic Updates"
5. Turn off "Install MacOS Updates"
6. Turn off "Install application updates from the app store"
