@@DonaldTrunk23 The cuban communist party did not use the equivalent to many times the credit donated to reconstruct Europe, an amount received by the Castro horror mafia years ago from many countries. Was it because of the embargo? Not at all. The Cuban communists are rich. And they are currently imprisoning dissidents just for calling names Canel, but the cuban people never elected him. For exemple, 30 years of prison given to people for saying: Díaz Canel Singao! There is an embargo, yes. But the reference to it doesn't aloud many people to see the big corruption of Canel and company and the suppression of liberties of the Cuban people. One do not help the Cubans asking for the end of the embargo at all, that regime takes any amount they receive and use it in their private business, people actually help cubans asking the communist government to resign. There are 3 things that will end the embargo automatically and one can easily check that law to verify what will end it : freedom for cuban political prisoners, free elections and liberty for Cubans. By the way, the embargo does not restrict food or medicine to Cuba, all the chicken Cubans eat are from the US, and Cuba entertains comercial relations with more than 100 countries. The Cuban communist party have had more that 60 years to prove what they really are : only thiefs. Cubans do not want any more communism. Once that regime is well gone, so will the embargo be.

I am Cuban and I am very familiar with the Cuban situation. Cubans are no migrating to USA due to the US embargo on the island, but due to repression of the Cuban dictatorial government on the Cuban people for thinking differently. The economy plays a roll, but it is not the main reason. The main reason for Cubans to flee the island is the lack of freedom. Among the Cuban migrants to USA you can find mainly those who want to be free from the Cuban dictatorship. The Cuban government is imprisoning or killing anyone who dissent from the government and is infiltrating Cuban spies, within this massive exodus to USA, who are trained to intimidate other Cubans in US soil who dissent from the Cuban dictatorship and had already been victims of the Cuban dictatorial government, among many other strategies to subdue the Cuban dissenting. Also, among Cuban migrants, you can find those who have worked for the dictatorship for several years so far; but are waiting for the chance to flee the island because they know the Cuban government is wrong. Moreover, the Cuban dictatorship is doing anything possible to empower companies anywhere in the world with close ties to the Cuban dictatorship. These companies would not succeed if Cubans had basic needs such as food and medicine covered. The owner of these companies is always someone with close ties to the Cuban dictatorship. In other words, the Cuban government blames the US embargo for any basic product shortage, but the truth is that Cuba was able to produce its own food before de Cuban revolution. Trust me, the goal of the dictatorship is to continue to cause these shortages to force those Cubans, who live out of the island and earn the hard currency, to buy those basic needs products through these Cuban government companies. Cuba is not seeking peace with the US, but to control those Cubans in USA who dissent from the Cuban dictatorship. There is more to this than just what I just said. If you have any other question, I will be please to answer it.

@@kimobrien. I am familiar with that show. I remember every year most of cuban showing up to May 1st afraid of loosing their jobs. Mostly those who had access to foreign currency or any other kind of means (food, clothes, etc.) at their jobs would not want to loose their jobs due to being absent to the May 1st job. Also, during the May 1st show everyone around me just wanted to be home, not at this show. The cuban dictatorship made sure to cause trouble to anyone absent to the May 1st show. People would show up this day smiling, like you have to job-smile in a bad day at work in USA, if that applies. In other words, that smile does not come from the heart and the whole show is completely fake. It is hard to believe, but it is what it is. I understand the imperialism and all that, but the revolution did not bring sacrifice for everyone, but just to those most vulnerable; like in USA. Just, in Cuba, the most vulnerable is everyone, but the dictatorship-government. Surely, the revolution did not sacrifice many until 1959 to get to what we have today. Many cuban government official relatives traveling the world with the cuban people's money. Even buying properties in foreign countries under SA corporations. None of the government official earn a salary in foreign currency that allows any of their relatives to travel anywhere or to own any Nightclub or any other bussiness in Cuba. But, that is happening. Many were imprisoned before for trying to do the same. After all, the revolution was fought to bring balance to the cuban society, not to bring this overwhelming difference we are seing today. Cuba was not that critical before 1959. Back then, we had almost one cow per cuban and we were able to produce as much food as we needed on our own. It is true, there were have nots and have's, like you have here in USA, but the have nots were able to meet their basic needs. Before 1959, cubans were paid in cuban pesos and the goods were sold to then in cuban pesos. Cubans could travel anywere, if they had the money to do it. The list could go on and on, but I think you are already familiar with it. Cubans fought and died in 1959 to overthrow the dictator Fulgencio Batista (got to power on march 10th 1952 came to power through a coup). Following Fidel, cubans also fought to bring parity to our society. However, all we have today is the opposite. Is it the imperialism's fault that we are not self-sufficient food producers or that we don't have one cow per cuban habitant like before 1959, becasuse Fidel sold every cow in the island to foreign countries? No, the answer is not. Our leader, back then, made huge mistakes that impacted meeting our basic needs. These are just a few examples that one can google. After making such mistakes; afraid of retaliation, none around him would dare to bring any of this up to him. Those retaliations would go from being demoted and loose all priviledges (monthly basic needs met and brought home by any government entity, vacations at resorts twice a year for a month, travels representing Cuba anywhere and the most important: the priviledge to be trusted large sums of foregin currency) to go prison to be killed. A good example of this is Huber Matos who fought next to Fidel, but did not want to follow him anymore after the revolution success when Fidel decided to shift to Marxist principles. The imperialism is not responsible for any of this.

He promises to out do the Communists with free internet from a balloon. No free internet in the US but Rubio said he's going to bring free internet to Cuba. The Imperialist make promises they have no intention of keeping. They take a fool like you make a few promises and then your hooked on their nonsense. Everyone knows the poor do not get their needs meet in Cuba before the revolution. Their children had distended bellies full of parasites. The land owners beat the peasants like dogs. Blacks faced discrimination and segregation just like in the US. Women sold their bodies outside casinos. It was a capitalist paradise for the rich. Yankee sailors pissed on Jose Marti statues. @Kim O'Brien, I know that a Cuba with no social differences was possible after 1959; however, the power clouded the Cuban government official’s judgement and, little by little, they gave in to the little privileges and luxury, only reachable by few. In fact, I witnessed part of that change. I am very naïve. You are right. In fact, I notice this Cuba had also social differences when we couldn’t enjoy some of our beaches and none of our hotels anymore in the 90’s, when people were imprisoned for telling the truth, when the tourism arrived at our country, and we couldn’t walk on the streets without being harassed by the Cuban police -the Cuban government informally criminalized befriending those foreigners-. However, this time, these differences were horrifically worse than those before 1959 as Cubans would not have the ability to, at least, own their own business and the government would take over everything. Thus, the differences between have’s (government officials and their relatives) and have nots were very likely to be greater than those before 1959. As far as myself, I am not naïve or idealist for asking the Cuban government to really abide by the principles they preach and taught us in the schools -“a better country with no social difference, where its president is as hungry as the poorest Cuban or where the poorest Cuban can enjoy anything as much as the Cuban president”. In the end, what was the greater good the Cuban rebel army was fighting for? Was it a better country for all; or a better country for THEM (those in power with the guns)? Blaming the embargo for all our shortages are only fallacies aiming to cloud everyone’s judgement. INEPTITUDE, INEFFICACY and CORRUPTION inside the Cuban revolutionary government is the least I can think of to make excuses for the Cuban demise. Not to mention INSOLVENT TOURISM INDUSTRY and EXPORTING CUBAN FOOD that Cubans need to eat to survive. Please, let’s think, how much money could the Cuban government have made by exporting or selling food to hotels or in a market other than Cuban pesos? The numbers show not enough to justify such outrageous call. Wake up, I am not talking about exporting cobalt, nickel, gold, silver, iron, aluminum or any non-edible good. What I am talking about now is the Cuban government exporting or selling our food in a currency that we are not paid in. Cubans are hungry and they need that food. The Cuban government elite eats well every day. They government even forecast on TV events illustrating the catering for such events while the Cubans are starving and spending days in lines to be sold in foreign currency or Cuban pesos a rationed amount of chicken, for instance. Do you really think that the embargo is responsible for that? I am not citing here any numbers for you to see the inconsistencies of the Cuban government between what they preach and what they are really doing. I know you are knowledgeable enough to do your own math. Sadly, the reality is that the Cuban government is not socialist or communist nor any of the like that people want to buy in their dreams of achieving a better world, but a highly repressive dictatorship that keeps their citizen indigents, exports or sells in foreign currency (currency Cubans does not earn in Cuba) even the food the Cuban people produce and that they need to eat because they are starving. Does this seem right to you just to achieve a greater good that has not been accomplished in 63 years? If the answer is yes, maybe you need to live like an average Cuban citizen making a living in Cuban pesos (who knows with certainty the name of the next term president of Cuba, even before de elections); not knowing what to eat or what to provide to his/her family and knowing that dissenting from the system that starve him/her would causing to end imprisoned. I am sorry, the embargo is not responsible for any of this nonsense.

@@Rwethereyet Mrs. Gonzalez, you are absolutely right. Criminalizing small fishing in Cuban waters while Cubans are starving is just the tip of the iceberg. There is way more to the Cuban government hypocrisy than criminalizing fishing; such as, building a socialism/communism with imperialist/capitalist socioeconomical formation money. If they want to build a better world for everyone, they have to understand that such idea should not be imposed, or it will become another form of dictatorship. The Cuban government needs to understand that as long as the money is part of their equation, they will be as capitalist as any other capitalist country. Just because a country decides to provide free health and education to its citizens does not mean they are socialist or communist. Actually, in our planet, as of today, no country should be considered socialist or communist. Actually, I think that we have countries where their citizens enjoy freedom and democracy and countries where their citizens suffer at the hands of a dictatorship (be it leftist or rightist). Regarding my previous entry, I reiterate what I mentioned. Yes, Cubans has always been imprisoned for non-violently dissenting from the Cuban government. Examples of them are everywhere. I don’t want to be unfair to any political prisoner by not mentioning their names. However, we all have heard the name of “Guillermo Fariñas”, who never presented with any violence to dissent from the Cuban government and spend more than 11 years in prison. Of course, the Cubans jailed for thinking differently are way too many to mention them here. I have already posted the link with their names in a previous entry.

However, it will be nice for you to understand that all those items you are addressing in your statement are already present in Cuba under the current dictatorial government. Facts are as follows: Cuba has gone from being one of the first economies in Latin-America to be among the last-ones now. Cuban people are starving. Most of the fields in Cuba are underused. Cuba has to produce their own food to begin with. Then, the Cuban government has to prioritize all its citizens over the foreigners that visit the country. Human life is not about money, but the resources and means that are able to enviromentally-sosteinable develop. Money is just a middle man that Cuba has reject to kneel to before. Also, I remember Fidel stating that Cuba did not need the capitalist money nor the USA or any of its lackeys. However, that speech has changed throughout all these years. So, now the speech is about the embargo. Currently, it seems the embargo is responsible for Cuba's demise. Absolutely not!!! Cuba is responsible for its own failure. Many years being mostly supported financially by another country has not helped Cuba to be SELF-SUFFICIENT. SELF-SUFFICIENT, YES!!!!!!!! Actually, we all know that it is hard to achieve such lofty goal , but everyone has to work together to succeed. USA does not have to provide any visas anually to Cuba. USA has the right to trade with anyone and to take action against those who are not paying their dues. Cuba also has the option to say no to the current monetary system and create their own magic inside the island. Back then, in Cuba, I remember many of us beleiving that we could have achieved this goal of being SELF-SUFFICIENT. In fact, we worked hard for it; however, the many corrupt Cuban government officials showed over and over that while we were making the ultimate sacrifice to built a better Cuba, they were depleting the resources and embracing fully the Capitalism that was once evil. All those societal diseases you are mentioning in your aforementioned statemen are present now in Cuba. In other words, the Cuban goverment is a HYPOCRITE that preaches what it does not practice. A leader needs to be a ROLE MODEL to beleive in him/her. All your ideology in Cuba is being impossed to everyone. None is legally allow to dissent. Please, and again, to state "police are holding people back and they are starving is just so much bullshit" in Cuba you need to go to Cuba or live in Cuba and dissent from the government. Off course, since you are a dictatorship supporter, I do not think you will have any trouble.

Nor is a privileged bureaucracy that fights to restore capitalist methods developed. Those seeking privileges are leaving for the USA. A minority like you want to return to capitalism. You look to capitalist liberals and finance to solve Cuba's problems and not the power of the organized workers and farmers themselves. You fail to understand how capitalism is choking off production on a world scale. It's going to get a lot worse before it gets better. If your such a smart one than you can explain how capital produces a god dam thing? You think that largest in the world cache of gold sitting in the bottom of the New York federal reserve bank is what keeps American imperialism as top dog or do you think its the production of millions of human beings and a world empire of military force unmatched in human history.

@@ififif2022 499. Memorandum From the Deputy Assistant Secretary of State for Inter-American Affairs (Mallory) to the Assistant Secretary of State for Inter-American Affairs (Rubottom)1
      Washington, April 6, 1960.
      SUBJECT
The Decline and Fall of Castro
Salient considerations respecting the life of the present Government of Cuba are:
      1.
The majority of Cubans support Castro (the lowest estimate I have seen is 50 percent).
      2.
There is no effective political opposition.
      3.
Fidel Castro and other members of the Cuban Government espouse or condone communist influence.
      4.
Communist influence is pervading the Government and the body politic at an amazingly fast rate.
      5.
Militant opposition to Castro from without Cuba would only serve his and the communist cause.
      6.
The only foreseeable means of alienating internal support is through disenchantment and disaffection based on economic dissatisfaction and hardship.
If the above are accepted or cannot be successfully countered, it follows that every possible means should be undertaken promptly to weaken the economic life of Cuba. If such a policy is adopted, it should be the result of a positive decision which would call forth a line of action which, while as adroit and inconspicuous as possible, makes the greatest inroads in denying money and supplies to Cuba, to decrease monetary and real wages, to bring about hunger, desperation and overthrow of government.
The principal item in our economic quiver would be flexible authority in the sugar legislation. This needs to be sought urgently. All other avenues should likewise be explored. But first, a decision is [Page 886]necessary as to the line of our conduct. Would you wish to have such a proposal prepared for the Secretary?2

That would be the Republicans! The Democrats and their leftist policies are contradictory to why we come here. What's the point of voting for Democrats that would turn the country we are fleeing to into a country like the one we fled from? Duh! The Democrats are incompatible with the reasons and aspirations of why our people come to the USA. We come for opportunities to work and to get ahead in life, not for handouts and welfare to forever make us beholden to the leftists in the USA. Cuban Americans are not opposed to orderly, legal immigration, in fact we support it! This mass exodus is a form of terrorism that the dictatorship has unleashed on the US. Just like they did in 1980 Mariel boat lift. They unloaded their problems on the US and the Democrats were and are too incompetent to stop it.
Additionally, all the democrats have ever done is loosen the purse strings that help fund the dictatorship with no consideration of the oppression they help unleash on our people when they help fund the dictatorship. They use that money not to feed, clothe or provide medical care or better education to our people. They use it to buy Russian automatic weapons, Russian tanks, Russian migs that are used to spread fear among our people and put us down at the end of a gun and to arm their mindwiped automatons and send them to places like Venezuela, Angola, Nicaragua and dozens upon dozens of other leftist communist dictatorships around the world to spread their ideology. Not once have the Democrats demanded and withheld concessions until the dictatorship delivered concessions of their own. As far as Democrats go, they are the worst negotiators in history when confronted by leftist dictatorships. One would suspect where their sympathies lie, with the oppressed people or with the oppressive dictatorships.

The immigration system is broken for those who want more migration. There’s a resource reason we have limits and the system is design to allow as many as can be properly absorbed without undue strain on the American resources. As countries like Cuba press on with their failed system that only benefits a small group of oppressive, autocratic government officials there will be more people who will want to leave. The US with all
It’s faults is viewed as the land of opportunity because with hard work you can improve your economic and social position. I’ve seen the benefits of immigrating even pennyless and with language challenges into a free country with my own eyes. With hard work and wisdom you can make significant gains in standard of living. I’m so glad my family chose to leave Cuba with me in 1961.

@@kimobrien. There is no blockade. It’s only an embargo for some US businesses. The rest of the world is free to trade with Cuba. They don’t because Cuba has a failed economic system and as such cannot produce much to offer in exchange. Socialism/communism leads to apathy amongst those who would otherwise be driven to excel. As the sugar cane cutters said after Castro nationalized the industry “they pretend to pay us, so we pretend to work”. Most humans need incentives to bust their butts working.

Actually I met a lady who was a kid in Cuba when Castro took over. Her family had a big farm handed down through the family. Then that psycho Castro just let the farm go to hell. They almost starved.

    • @kimobrien.
      @kimobrien. 2 года назад

@@T30-z5w Blockade began with Kennedy administration and the was tightened with the Helms Burton act. It is multinational in effect because those foreign businesses doing trade with Cuba are subjected to US fines. This is why the whole world including NATO allies votes against the blockade at the UN with only a few abstentions and a No from the US and Israel. I'm sure all those New York stock brokers and hedge fund managers living in New Jersey mansion on private roads with huge flower gardens are working hard at the stock market swindle. As far as incentives goes don't waste my time with nonsense about pretend to pay and pretend to work. An attitude like that would of course never infect a too big to fail management culture? Capitalist are interested in enriching themselves only and it leads to a declining rate of return on investment as machines replace labor leading to calls for bailout and too big to fail. Who was in charge of wasting 2.3 trillion on the war in Afghanistan? Create a world currency that you can inflate at will such that property values rise while wages decline. Rather than the old fashion wage cuts rob the working class with inflation. Your whole world system of exploitation is in decline and you haven't the slightest idea of what to do about it.

Like Yoani Sanchez who writes about what it would be like to be a political prisoner. Too bad they weren't Irish peasants under British capitalism and landlords than they could have died on the side of the road or taken a ghost ship to another country.
