    As a child I travelled this route from 1933 to 1944 on trains driven by steam engines. My nostalgic stories are in my book: The Three Verbs of Being, set in colonial Raj in the prewar days of 1930's. True British-Hindu relationships set around the Jakkhu temple will boggle your mind. I used to climb from Phagli to Jakkhu above the Lakkar bazaar to Sir Harcourt Butler High school everyday. What experiences and what intimate memories, they will live forever in my mind from incarnation to reincarnation.

      So Zipsteri do women travel on that train on their own? Is it safe for a tourist? I love the scenery but I want to be cautious. For example I was in Japan and everyone was to their own thing, noone would bothered anyone, I was treated as one more, and I felt safe. Would it be the same from Kalka to Shimla? Thank you

    Done this ride from Shimla to Kalka... almost eight hours sat in the doorway in brilliant weather trying not to get my toes scraped on the sides of the tunnels. We were on a daily service and not one of the specials, so no A/C or anything like that. If you want comfort, book the Governor's Railcar or the Himalayan Queen but I'd recommend a normal service for the real flavour of the train. From Kalka we travelled to New Delhi on the shatabdi in A/C Coach which was an eye-opener compared to British Rail. More legroom, more comfort and silver service for the evening meal at your seat.

    The Kalka-Shimla Rail course is one of the UNESCO World Legacy Site under Mountain Railroads of India alongside Darjeeling Himalayan Rail line and Nilgiri Mountain Rail routes.
    The other two mountain railroads in India, The Kangra Valley Railroad, and Matheran Slope Rail route are additionally incorporated into the provisional Indian rundown of Legacy Locales.
    Opened in 1903 and now 109 years of age line goes through the trees of pines and lavish green dim mountains and initially worked to ship the Indian Emissary and his officers with English troops when Shimla turned into the Late spring Capital of India. This was the main choice accessible for the quicker developments, else they need to travel utilizing bullock-trucks, which more often than not took 5-6 days to go amongst Kalka and Shimla.

    The whole of kalka shimla route has been destroyed because of 4 laining of national highway. Most of the rly crossings are destroyed and ugly flyovers have come up. No greenery left, infact even the rly line is not maintained much.

    • @gauravkalra4
      @gauravkalra4 2 года назад

      What are you even talking about! I travelled on this line for the 4th time in this year and its beauty is still intact. The 4 lane highway that you are talking about comes in the way only at some minor sections. The railway line follows the old Chandigarh-Shimla highway not the new one. It is full on greenery all the way from Kalka till Shimla !! You don't expect much greenery during summer or spring season. It gets more greener in monsoon season. For development flyovers are necessary and railway line is perfectly maintained. If you are specifically talking only about the 4 lane highway then I would say yes, it has destroyed the greenery and lots of trees which were there earlier.

They should think more about the Bengal famine and similar atrocities committed by the brits. The brits probably still think they got so 'great' because they were great. Actually, it is all due to the looting of colonies. Once the colonies were gone, brits are no longer looking so great. pranesh kumar maybe but the sad reality is if Britishers hadn't made these routes at that time ,we couldn't have got their ever by train..
      For eg still traveling to Srinagar is a problem even though lot of efforts are made by railways

      Clash with King-Karanvir Singh
      situation of srinagar is different. that place is hit by militancy and other issues. and its all about economical viability.
      and britishers are not the reason why india has reached to mars today.

      @@karanvirsingh2830 lol stop living in slavery days of british! This line was made by Indian Engineers and Indian laymen working in the british company. Today, we have made train tracks till Katra (Vaishno Devi) and the project for Gangotri, Yamunotri, Kedarnath and Badrinath is going on.. that too on much higher altitude than this one. And those railway lines will be broad gauge not narrow gauge.. Indian engineers are the best.

    The narration was as if though that "skill" was learned in a TV commercial studio. I had enough of that glossing over sh*t by grade 8 elementary school from "teachers" waxing with enthusiasm over the imperialist British and their war crimes against other peoples, which were euphemistically referred to as "colonies". I'm no. 232 on the dislike thumb icon.
