- "It was a lonely farewell for Joe Lieberman.
When the senior senator from Connecticut stood to give his parting address Wednesday afternoon, just one of his colleagues, Delaware Democrat Tom Carper, was with him on the Senate floor.
As Lieberman plodded through his speech, thanking everybody from his wife to the Capitol maintenance crews, a few longtime friends trickled in."*
Joe Lieberman ended his term in the senate with a scarcely attended speech. Will he be missed? Is it due to his final thoughts on War? Cenk Uygur breaks it down.

You can't spell Lieberman without 'LIE'
AMEN
We can only hope.
the first time I saw this I thought the applause was real
He always reminded me of the father on the Alf show, Willie Tanner.
There should be term limits on all congressmen and senators.
This might be the day that all Americans both liberals, independents, and conservatives can cheer for. Joe Lieberman is gone and he won't be making any decisions any more.
lol... loved the end.
Did i just hear a fly ?
A DREAM COME TRUE!! WALKING OUT ON HIM? AWESOME!
Wouldn't be surprised.
This exactly. "Consulting? Congressional access? Shoe shine? I got whatever ya need!"
there was a guy there, but he was just coming back in to get his cellphone
I wish him the best he served his country there is no greater calling.
To the question, "will he be missed?", the answer is a resounding "Hell to the No!"
We in the US are very far from pure when it comes to adhering to our historic and stated principles. Seems to me that the way forward (for Israel) is to tell the 'greater Israel' folks to stick it, do a two-state, and start building as a responsible, ethical, and respected nation. You-all seem well endowed with at least the human resources needed.
BTW we should be doing the same. Getting rid of Lieberman is getting rid of a _small part_ of our troubles but it is delightful none-the-less.
Don't let the door hit you on the way out.
I'd say, "Good riddance to bad rubbish", but that would be an insult to bad rubbish.
He was 'against' or 'for' anything that made him look good at that particular moment.
When your allegiance is to yourself, guess who shows up when you need them.
As I read things, Lieberman has done pretty well financially even during his protracted period of 'public service', and he has (to his credit) things which mean more to him than money. I'll be pleasantly surprised if Obama does not appoint him to a more influential post than he'd have as a corp-gov lobbyist. And since clearly his peers rightfully despise him (likely many consider him a traitor) he may not be the most effective lobbyist anyway.
That guy is a dead ringer for Senator Palpatine from Star Wars.
My local supermarket is doing a fundraiser to provide a holiday meal for one of the air craft carriers.
My first thought is...... We're not already providing them a nice holiday meal for those serving in the military?
ONE weapon on that ship cost more then the yearly budget for many entire towns, but we don't spend enough on military to give them a fucking nice holiday meal?
CHECK PLEASE!
Short answer: No.
Long answer: Nooooooooooooooooooooooooo.
I almost feel sad for him.........almost.
LOL. I guess I should thank you.
"I don't think the crickets bothered to show up". LMFAO...
In truth, yes they do when a Senator is retiring and delivering their farewell. They do it out of respect. Cronies, colleagues, friends...No one respects that
bastard so no one showed up!
Connecticut is very affluent. Richest state. Few of their kids were going to serve. And people in that state are heavily involved in Wall Street. The military/industrial/security State and the banking cartel make a lot of money (extorted from the general public) on making things that blow up. However, things that blow up do not make us more prosperous. Of safer for that matter. Supporting the M/I/S/State does make a lot of people wealthy.
This is a very good reply, dude. Thanks!
since you do anything the royal family doesn't approve of, or thinks is a threat to their absolute power.
1:47 "...stand against the siren song of Isolationism, who will defend our defence and foreign assistance budgets, who will support (when necessary) the use of America's military power against our enemies in the world..."
As if deploying troops overseas is the only way to deal with other countries. What about exchanging culture, products, ideas, people, and an overall increased participation in the global community?
Well it did look like McCain was going to cry.
I'll just drink more beer to increase my range.
Don't let the door hit you, joe. Actually, do.
That we are currently living under what could reasonably be classified as marshal law is kind of absurd. But the hypothesis that certain legal constructs are currently in effect and are for all intents and purposes 'secret' is an interesting one with some explanatory powers. I don't write it off.
I also don't write off the possibility that a certain degree of private arms ownership complicates a decision to employ marshal law as a problem solving tool. Whether a pro or con is debatable.
No tumble weeds either.
What I'll miss that most is Jon Stewart's impersonation of him.
If only they could all be removed.
Wow I had no idea he was so bad until I heard what he said about war...more proof that every representative or Senator who votes in favor of war should have to send their children for a tour of duty.
LOL at McCain, Yeah he was a guy here and stuff with the thing and the guy
In the military, people are worth less than equipment. It's not official policy of course, but it is certainly no secret.
oh and if you hurt yourself, you're damaging government property.
The people who he really works for in Israel are the only ones who will truly miss him!
Amen!!! Now it's Time to get a real Democrat in the Senate For Connecticut !!!
nah there will always be someone else to replace chancellor palpatine.
That crazy lady Foxx was there.
I remember that! It's funny how Ned LaMont was rejected by Republicans. That's what you get for turning against a Senator who votes his conscience.
I didn't know Droopy Dog was a senator!
So much for the "Three Amigos" hahaha
Joe saying to the military complex, "Hey guys you need a lobbyist?"
I didn't agree with him on every issue either, but I respected that he served the public most of his life with decorum. He respected his rivals for their service to the other half of our country. Their will always be city folk & country folk, & both deserve representation. He wasn't at all an extremist, yet you talk about him as tho he were; even right after his death. I remember you differently. You use to have a lil decency. What happened ?
To be fair, almost nobody is ever in that room because none of them actually do any work and they are all off squandering our wealth.
One down,a whole bunch of them left to go.
Was anyone informed ahead of time for his speech? Or did he just decide to give it then? Maybe that would explain it. I admit, I don't know much about senate protocols and how they schedule speeches.
How many months till he sits in the board of a defense contractor or becomes a lobbyist to the military industrial complex?
I'm from CT, never voted for Joe, but feel compelled to apologize for him. I am darry.
Ill never get tired of calling him a scum bag
almost 800 thousand views for Ron Paul's farewell speech. I wish ron was younger so he could stay
I wonder who Joe Liberman is going to lobby for after this?(cough cough defense contractors)
Although I believe that Gore could have gone down as one of most effective and best presidents ever, I am am actually about 50/50 on whether I'm glad that he 'lost' to Bush and the ONLY reason is because of Lieberman as VP. I think that there is a non-trivial chance that Lieberman would not have stayed VP for long and that things would look much different, and much worse, than they do today in terms of our 'foreign entanglements.'
He did a great service for spreading tyranny.
Na na na na.... HEY! HEY! HEY! GOODBYE!
But when there's shit, there's stink!! Where's McCain???
Vindication
He will not be missed at all.
Exactly. If he wanted to be more honest to the American people and such, he should legally change his name to Joe Loserman.
Good one. :)
I am Jewish, and on the orthodox side yeah that's true they are like that, but on the reform side we have a lot of problems with the current Israeli government
watching McCain falling apart is really sad. I respect all the sacrifices he's made, and I can't really bring myself to mock the man. I think he broke when W used his adopted daughter against him to win the primaries back in 2000.
By gaming the system. We kicked him out once and he changed his party, demanded a new election and barely got in.
Another one bites the dust.
i won't miss him,that's for sure....
Not the first time he's pulled crap like that or been a weasel. The normal thing is to not run for your old job while running for a new job. He never did that...he always made sure he'd win SOMETHING.
joe started the videogame rating system in 1993 over mortal kombat and lethal inforcers
I'm actually surprised they allowed him the dignity of a farewell address, they should have just mailed him his pink slip and confiscated his keys on the way out. Say what you will about politicians, I have never seen a man flip so many sides in some Game of Thrones-esque attempt to play all sides against the middle, and for what? he's a Democrat when it serves him, he's a Republican when it serves him, he's Independant when the other two sides get wise to his game.
I don't think he was a good senator, but he was on the job for 24 years and almost no one came. That's kinda sad
I can't believe he was Al Gore's running mate.. .
i feel bad for him
Dat Alcurd avatar
Even tumbleweeds decided to skip out on this.
Video games, movies, books, comics, etc etc are a form of escapism from the realities of the world.
You realize that right?
See ya, Lieber
lieberman, mccain, graham and many others need to go and be forgotten..
id give a vote towards your username. PRICELESS!!!
It amuses me that baby killers can get so upset about a war hawk.
He's wanting a job in Defense contracting.
And to think that Dems supported this guy for VP in 2000.
Of the people should have ran up and given him a weggie during his speech
Nobody like a sellout even those who bought him!
it amuses me that war hawks can get so upset about hopeless fetuses
No.
don't let the dorr hit you in the ass, Joe blo.
I wonder how Al Gore feels about this...
Play him off, Keyboard Cat.
*Ding, Dong, the Witch is Dead*
I'd rather we spend some of that cash on constructive purposes. Trillions each year on defense is silly. Let's start using these scientists to work for us and start serving us normal people.
You forgot pro sports and drugs (both legal and illegal) in your list of Weapons of Mass Distraction.
Does anybody ever show up for any of these speeches, farewell or otherwise? Do you have an example where there was an audience for a Senate farewell speech? Just trying to keep you honest.
IIRC, the blues _finally_ showed him the door in the primaries. He switched parties because he needed the red votes and managed to pull it off.
While the effectiveness of the political stunt was impressive, it was one of the bigger disappointments to me. 'my side' occasionally pulls off political stunts and I'm often happy about it so I cannot complain much.
lieberman pledged allegiance to the united states of israel long before pledging allegiance to us
By Joe. Don't let the door hit ya where tthe good Lord split ya, as my daddy used to say.
