- US Secretary of State Antony Blinken said the US is “determined” to achieve a hostage exchange and ceasefire deal “now” during his visit to Tel Aviv on Wednesday.
Blinken arrived in Israel on Tuesday for talks with Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and other officials following visits to Jordan and Saudi Arabia, his seventh trip to the region since the beginning of Israel’s offensive on Gaza.
Speaking jointly to reporters during the visit, Israeli President Isaac Herzog urged Israel’s "allies and friends" to reject efforts by the International Criminal Court (ICC) taken against the country for its war on Gaza.
Herzog characterised the reported ICC investigation into Israeli leaders as a "clear and present danger to democracies and to free and peace-loving nations, who pursue the norms of international law".
Recently, several senior Israeli officials have voiced concern over the ICC's investigation into Israel’s actions in Gaza and the occupied West Bank. Reports suggest that the court could issue arrest warrants for Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and other Israeli leaders.
Israel’s war on Gaza has killed over 34,500 Palestinians since 7 October 2023, the majority being women and children.
