Nikka was like a funky early 00s Janis Joplin. She was so unique and memorable. I will never understand to this day why she never blew up big. She was an amazing singer and great performer - that is a rare quality that most current "singers" do not have.

I heard this song on TV for the first time 20 years ago. The hook beat was superb. Just last night I learned while watching a show on the evolution of music, that this was Mark Ronson's first work. Bravo to both.
Me and my aunt used to KILLLLL this album when it came out. We were so obsessed with this video, I remember us painfully streaming it over our shitty dial up connection.
Sad to say, but it's probably because she didn't break out until she was about 30, and the music industry in the early 2000s was hyper-focused on hot young solo artists. It's honestly impressive that she got as big as she did in a sea of barely-legal Britneys at the time.

In the early aughts, on the rise of trash pop there was a true diamond who was hot as hell and made everything her way! The whole album is outstanding! It sounds totally timeless! And Nikka...gosh, she's a HUGE ARTIST! And she's amazingly beautiful! And she's also one of a kind person!!! I feel absolutely euphoric about this woman! I'd love to see more interviews with her, and more lives! I first want to say I really like this song. Yesterday, I was singing it my head and dancing all day. When I first heard the song, it was being promoted on MTV. I didn’t like it at the time. It was different from everything I was used to. However, it grew on me. When looking at how high the song charted, I was surprised to see that it didn’t chart at all. Someone on MTV, however, really liked her because I remember a few MTV News segments really hyping her up. I even remember a segment about the video for the follow-up single being made, but I’ve never been able to find it.
