Danielle Harris said in an interview years ago the actress in the devil costume was literally drunk in the barn scene.
The man in black was written in at the last moment, even the director didn't know what to do with the character and hoped somebody would set him up in the next sequel (which they did) but apparently Don Shanks who played Myers also played the man in black.
Yeah, Don Shanks played the man in black based on the assumption that the rumor was that the man in black would be Michael's long lost twin brother.

Mostly it’s just bad. I say this as a huge Halloween fan. But outside of Halloween H20, The Dimension Films Halloween movies are completely fucking awful.

I like to think that in the year between Halloween 4 and 5, Micheal and the guy in the shack became friends and got into all kinds of crazy sitcom shenanigans together
That never made sense. So Micheal stayed in that shack a full year and he didn't kill him ?! He just laid there the whole time ?!

Now THAT´S something I would be interested to see! There´s a lot of potential for all kinds of conflicts like who´s going to take out the trash or the guy in the shack complaing to Michael that he never washes his mask.

I love that over the span of a year the old man in the shack didn’t report to the authorities that a body washed up on the shore of his home.
Also, how do you feed and water a person in a coma for a year? Like... did this dude hand feed michael some soup? I know there's a better beginning sequence shot with a dude named "Dr. Death" who was a part of the Thorn Cult, and he uses the power of the cult runes to revive Michael, but for whatever reason they cut that version that made sense and gave us the hermit intro.

@@thomasbaron5367 If I had to guess, it was cut because the costume on Michael shows his hockey pads underneath in a few scenes, like it's very visibly a dude wearing a pad under his jumper. The acting wasn't the greatest, but... I'm watching a horror movie, I don't expect 10/10 acting lol.
Say what you want about this movie, but Jamie is a damn good final girl. Made me more worried for her than I ever was for anybody in this series
the scene where Michael is trying to stab her through the laundry chute is almost as tense as the closet scene in part 1.
Danielle Harris is amazing in these 2 films! She should of received a special oscar, but of course "The Academy" was not about to praise a horror film....until Silence of the lambs. Lol

Agreed! While I hate 5 and I love 4, at the end of the day I love these 2 movies because of Rachel and Jamie. I’m still pissed that Jamie had to die or died the way she did but it just goes to show that sometimes there needs to be somebody who checks the higher ups in their decisions.

My theory on why michael cries in H5 .. Ok so in the moment where jamie talks to myers for a brief moment.. Michael knows deep down he loves his niece , but the Evil inside him will not allow it.

Kitten actors did a pretty good job, probably the most enjoyable scene of the movie and the cutest!
Somehow the mask went from ok to horrible after falling down that shaft.
Funny fact , by William Shatner , he used that mask on Halloween , when he was trick and treating with kids and in one house there was some unpleasant man and Shatner did go to his door and when he opened the door he took off the mask and that man crapped his pants ... seems that the live version of the face is even worse .

And yet, it is still not as bad as the CGI one in H20. The movie studio should have received a fine or forced to close up shop for a couple years. Something for that abomination.

@@wfkernea Why though? Please tell me because I legit despise the theatrical version, with the flash cuts, inappropriate music and the way they kill a favorite character in such a mean spirited way. The director thought Donald Pleasance was boring and cut many of his scenes. I could go on but I'll volley it back to the H6 lovers out there. I would love to hear your take on it.

@@Pocketrocket-pj1us because the look of the mask was much better than in Halloween 5, I liked the music they had chosen for it especially when Michael was chasing the mom and kid out of the house and while he was walking towards Paul Rudd in the hospital/asylum the ending was so much better than the producers cut with the stupid stones and runes.
And another thing that I liked about Halloween 6 is that they left out that Michael had become an incestrous pedophile to his niece

I love the part where Michael is just sitting in a jail cell fiddling with the chains. I think it's hilarious
and the fact they left his mask on which obviously they would never do that. the tear running down the cheek really tops it all off.

It's funny, the first few times a saw this one I assumed she survived. I know you see her on the strecher but I wouldn't be surprised if Moustapha told them to leave her fate ambiguous, in case they wanted to bring her back for part 6. Has anyone out there read any evidence to my theory? I've read the Fangorias from the time and I don't recall them mentioning it.

Hope you watch theatrical cut of part 6. The story is missing a bit but the movie plays better the way it was originally. More fun for a story that’s not great in either version!!

The "Mark of Thorn" is a runic symbol that is both the symbolic representation of the Curse of Thorn and the iconic insignia of the Thorn Cult. It appeared on the wrist of those involved with the cult, or cursed by them.
Yes, a Celtic curse represented by a Norse rune. They didn't have Wikipedia in 1989, but you'd think they would've at least looked in an encyclopedia.

i remember watching this as soon it was available on VHS (that cliff hanger ending was rough took a good 5-6 years for Halloween 666 to arrive in theaters (this entry is a perfect example of the end of the 1980’s Horror boom to some extent so much 1980’s excess/ over saturation (1990’s started off strong but, bottomed out so quick)
And then Scream reinvented the slasher genre only for Platinum Dunes and dimension films to completely drop the ball, Rob Zombie’s Halloween movies should be considered a hate crime. And while I get that a lot of people like the Saw franchise but it killed the entire horror film genre for about 10 years. And then in the 2010’s indie horror films revived the genre and gave it credibility
Slashers never really went away maybe close to 10 years we would get a couple of them every year but not all of them would be great. Recently we have seen a resurgence honestly it seemed to really pick up when halloween 2018 came out then co ntinued with Kills and Scream. Now we have halloween ends coming in october.

The positive thing about the movie is definitely Jamie and the versatile kills.
The man who keeps popping up and has the same tattoo as michaels on his wrist, well the writer's added him in the script even though they didn't have any idea what the character was. They added him in just for a possible new storyline and left it up to writer's of the next movie to make the new storyline

Halloween 5 is an okay movie

The director of this film was the ONLY man to come along in the last 45 years who actually UNDERSTOOD what made the original film work. He crafted a masterpiece in this film. But if the specifics of the house matter so much to you, watch Resurrection....and you'll SEE how much it matters....
@@tgriffin3059 Um, no. He actually fundamentally misunderstood Halloween. He’s the reason the whole cult aspect exists. He threw in the Man in Black and the Thorn symbol on Michael’s wrist for literally no reason, expecting the next director to tie up the loose ends he left. If he understood anything about Halloween, he would have understood that Michael was never meant to be explained. I love all Halloween films, even this one. But if you think it’s a masterpiece, you need to watch better movies, babe.
@@donnybuoy Yeah, he 'threw in' the Man in Black-who's on screen for about 80 seconds-as well as the Thorn, which is a symbol that appears for about 7 seconds....If you think back to what made the '78 classic work, it was all about a triangular hunt, of sorts, in which Myers stalks people, and Loomis stalks him....and all set against the backdrop of a traditional Halloween night in the Heartland. As I said, only this movie places such a heavy emphasis on this element to Myers' nature. 2 and 4 are both outstanding, as well....but Halloween 5 is RELENTLESSLY anchored to this motif. No other film places as much of a focus on Myers as stalker/Bogeyman in the Closet/ hunter...as THIS one...Halloween 5 features a TWELVE minute stalking sequence....the greatest stalking scene since Annie in the original...and, frankly, a little better...and another, at the Carruther's house, that is almost as effective.
In addition, the other elements were very strong and distinctive, as well. Pleasance and Harris gave phenomenal performances...the aesthetics are brilliant...this may be the finest score in the entire franchise(including the original)....the pursuit scenes are outstanding...particularly the laundry chute....Everything, from the major scenes down to the most seemingly trivial, is handled with incredible craftsmanship and artistry....
As for 'explaining' Michael....I don't know that Othenin-Girard tried to explain him...he may have hinted that he COULD be a bit better understood....but to open the idea that a constellation may have something to do with Michael's power...that's an extraordinarily vast concept....you could do a lot with that, or you could do nothing...it's already understood that the bulk of Michael's evil-doing takes place on October 31...adding in the constellation doesn't really do a lot to restrict a man whose whole agenda revolves around ONE day out of the calendar...Same with the Man in Black....it opened up certain possibilities, but nothing that had to hamstring the next director.
But whatever you think of these two factors, in truth, they're really NOT factors in Halloween 5....it's just Myers stalking people, and Loomis stalking HIM...exactly as it was in '78...but with a higher body count, and MUCH better looking women...

Like part 4, this went straight to video in Australia. Here's the twist.
I think I personally may have started the ball rolling in getting this one released on the Australian market.
I was aware of it's existence yet it just wasn't appearing in the video shops for about two years afterwards. Sick of waiting I phoned up a couple of distributors who had no idea about the movie at all and not long after one of them released it here on VHS. It was RCA Columbia Hoyts Video!
I think Michael and his niece had a psychic connection after she touched his hand that's why she was able to sense and feel him when he was close by

They can just skip the Rob Zombie’s Halloween films, god I just fucking hate those movies. they’re extremely unpleasant. God skip Halloween resurrection as well, that abomination needs to be destroyed. Other than that just skip right on ahead to Halloween 2018 and Halloween Kills, those feel like true sequels to Halloween 1978.

But I have watched every movie review you guys have up. You all do an amazing job and I love watching you 2. Side note: like i mentioned in another comment the blonde girl you thought was familiar is ben stillers wife and is in dodge ball and a bunch of other things.
I’m sure someone else may have mentioned this but the little girl who plays Jamie, plays Laurie’s friend Annie in Rob Zombies Halloween. Which i hope you guys react to one day!
Fun facts:
1. As you probably have guessed, Halloween 5 was literally rushed into production before a script could be completed or perfected.
2. In an interview with Fangoria Magazine shortly before his death, while hyping Halloween 6, Donald Pleasance referred to Halloween 5 as "rubbish".
3. In the scene where Dr. Loomis is beating the hell out of Michael, Donald Pleasance actually broke Don Shanks' nose. Pleasance would later apologize to Shanks.
4. Just to get this joke out of the way, That is NOT the freaking Myers house.
What, exactly, is your point? Everybody has heard each of these points a hundred times. The movie didn't make much money, so they claim it was 'rushed' as their excuse. Pleasance threw 5 under the bus because he was so busy kissing ass to the director of 6 because he knew the guy didn't want him back...and Resurrection utilized a much more authentic looking Myers house....which goes to show how much it matters....
Halloween 5 is an absolute, unmitigated masterpiece...trust me, the world is a very different place when you do something OTHER than repeat stuff you heard on the special features...
As soon as I heard the goofy horns & sound effects during the scene with the 2 cops, I knew that John Carpenter had not a damn thing to do with this movie. I had to check & his wife sold both of their shares/rights & ownership to this series before Halloween 4. Yeah, that explains a lot!

When me and my buddy were little kids we'd always go out and go trick-or-treating until almost 9 at night empty are pillowcases out on the floor and separate our candy into categories while we watch the Halloween movie and we can make trades and stuff

Halloween 3 does not count as a sequel! I mean what is it a sequel to? It's a stand alone film that should be viewed as such. I actually llike Season of the Witch, but they doomed it's box office by putting the Halloween name in front of it. I think it would have had a good theatrical run if it was promoted as a seperate entity. That way, there would have been no expectations going in. Like the people who went to see it because they thought it was a continuation of the Myers storyline.
Still my favorite sequel.
