This video is a great way to start and informative. Thank goodness for ENGLISH speaking version. I hope more player will start playing this instrument. I am using him as my Instructor and he is awesome and fun, he is worth the time and you'll see a big playing difference in your playing. GREAT JOB!
Hi, i made a comment a year ago about playing the saz. Good news, i bought one a while ago. The traditional “standard” tuning for the saz in Armenia is GDA (top-down). It works very well. Strings do not snap at all. The sound is great.
Ciao from Italy! I'm trying to learn to play this beautiful instrument at least a little, but I couldn't understand how it was held! Your video is really useful! I will also follow the other tutorials! :)
Lol I use my Ernie Ball Prodigy picks which are 1.5mm with a point and beveled edges, it gets me very precise and accurate on each pair of strings. I tune mine G-D-A and use a slide like Lu Edmonds.
Yeah whatever works for you, that's an extremely heavy pick gauge, but I make some pretty heavy ones from bone and copper as well I sell on etsy and also use that are beveled edges and can work well for the right type of playing.
@@Guitar101Ramstein can you tell me where you are located? I live in Ft Lauderdale, FL and cannot find anyone or anyplace to take lessons. Your help is greatly appreciated!
I really want to buy a saz. As of my knowledge it is an Armenian folk instrument, but other people use this instrument as well. I have studied the history of Armenian instruments and I found that the saz was played before Armenian soldiers (during the Kingdom of Ararat) would play saz (as well as zurna) before going to war against Assyria. The fascinating history and sound of this instrument has drawn me to it. I’d really love to buy one in the future.

Thank you for these videos, extremely helpful. I appreciate you!
Good information and easy to follow
thank you!
I prefer the Persian tuning of fourths and fifths. I prefer a low fourth and a high fifth, which is the Tarz tuning.
Perfect..thanks

how did you met saz first?
Thank you! Question, I have a long-necked Saz and it has only 3 keys on top. Why is that?
That I don't know. Is it missing tuning pegs?
@@Guitar101Ramstein No it has only 2 strings on the bottom. It seems like yours has 3 strings? By the way thanks so much for the tutorials!

Or other name is "Tezene"
Does anyone know of a place in Atlanta GA that can teach in class to learn Saz?
I personally don't, guess it is hard to come by a Baglama teacher in the US in General, which is why I do a lot of lessons online through video call.
I am having the same hard time in Southern Florida
