He IS a skater and an artist and an entertainer and he ought to be honored and respected and supported a such. It is always fun to watch him. Thank you Jason! Enjoy you Olympic experience and be proud!
I HAVE ALWAYS ENJOYED WATCHING THIS KID SUCH STYLE AND FLOW EVEN WHEN HE JUMPS HE LANDS WITH SUCH GRACE, AND SPINS BEAUTIFULLY. I'M A BIG FAN AND HAVE WATCHED HIM GROW. RIGHT ON JASON!😇
I hate how figure skating has become way too much about jumps and too little everything else. The quad has turned it into a one-trick pony show. I'm 70 and have watched figure skating almost all my life, ever since I was a little kid, and I'm telling you, Jason is one of the very best ever...certainly the best out there today...the best since Robin Cousins and for the same reasons. He doesn't need a quad to capture your heart....and I wish I could tell him that to his face. The best skaters are those who would also make good dancers. Jason is that, as was Robin Cousins. I am looking forward to watching Ilia Malinin, tho...as he has promise in that he does have a good amt. of artistry and he isn't going to get knocked down by the "judges" since he is very capable of doing quads. He was the only one of the top 4 not to fall. At any rate, they are ALL very lucky Jason Brown does not nave a consistent quad, for if he did, no one, and I mean NO ONE could touch him!
You said it best. I look forward to each and every one of his performances. I'm still a huge fan of his even if the "judges" decide on someone else. I'm okay with him not being perfect as far as quadruples go as long as he gets a spot in the Olympics just so I can enjoy his performance. If not, I honestly don't think I will be as interested in the men's figure skating this time. I think it should be Jason and Nathan in the Olympics no doubt and that younger 17 yr old guy. But not that guy that fell many times and caused Jason to be in 4th place
@@angieray9663 Take heart, Angie...Jason is on the Olympic team! They look at the skater'swhole body of work, not just this competition, and the newcomer just hasn't had enough experience yet in the Seniors to know how consistent he'll be, so it's Chen, Zhou, and Brown on the team, with Malinin as the first alternate. Now, it's on to the Olympics...here's hoping Jason has better luck with the quad and that the judges will be fair; Jason deserves nothing less.
Isn't it time to separate the championships into those focused on artistry, and those focused on gymnastics? My heart breaks when skaters like Jason Brown and Yuzuru Hanyu are not given full credit for their magnificent artistry and grace.
Yes figure skating has turned into a circus. Trained to do ever increasingly impossible jumps. Even the artistic skaters have to predictably skate, jump, skate, jump, skate, jump………….
I love, love, love Jason. But I’d have voted for Ilia to go to the Olympics, if anyone asked me. Jason placed 7th at the Worlds. His best chance will be about the same at the Olympics. But Ilia has a chance to score higher. And he is the future, he can benefit from this experience more. I’m so disappointed. I can only imagine what’s in his heart.
Ilia hasn't really established himself in the Senior ranks yet, and with too few past performances to show how consistent he's going to be, the judges didn't really have much choice but to pick Jason...Jason has more of a track record, being very, very consistent except for the qaud. Ilia was chosen to be the first alternate, tho, so he'll still be at the Olympics, but at age 17, he's got plenty of time to benefit from all kinds of competitions from here on out. Jason really deserved to be on the team for all the work he's invested in becoming the beautiful skater he most certainly is.
if it weren't for jason there wouldn't even be a 3rd spot and by the criteria it would still be nathan and vincent going even if ilia won nationals.. the protocol criteria was available for anyone prior to nationals if they wanted to read it..
@@lindanitzschke1315 Jason's time passed. He has NO chance at an olympic medal. The federation is not thinking about the future. This kid Ilia has the best scenerio to prepare mentally and to know how the game is played. He has the quads and he definitly needs to work on his artistry, but come on. This whole jason thing is an emotional load of crap. He already peaked a long time ago, and has not barely scrapped podium positions in the last 4 years. This kid, Ilia is amazing and could benefit more and contribute more towards the team event than jason can.
Well I think it’s a hit and miss At this point. With Chen’a short program fiasco last Olympics maybe they thought giving Ilia time to mature the best thing to do and not too much pressure
Skating still has this dilemma, artistry or athlete even since John Curry and Toller Cranston both great stylists we were having the same argument, maybe time for two medals.
yep it'll never be valued equally which is a problem since only a small handful of guys on the entire planet can do 4-6 quads in a program. does more harm than good long term to the sport..
@@SonOfAGun1814 actually my husband Glyn was one of Timothy Goebel's coaches in 2000 when he was the first American to land 3 quads in his long but somehow the old judging system handled this problem a little better than the IJS system it was preference over points and GOE.
Don’t forget that Jason is the best skating artist 👩🎤 since Paul Wylie. That is what this choreo sequence reminds me of. Jason’s skating is so dramatic, elegant, and graceful. Look at that split jump!!
It's based party on past history...maybe they'll consider Jason more consistent than Zhou...or that ilia hasn't enough history in the Seniors. I'm guessing Jason will at least be chosen as the alternate. At any rate, waaaaay too much credit and attention is given to the stupid quad and jumps, in general. It's like thinking someone in major league baseball shouldn't win the Cy Young Award or Golden Goves Award or MVP if they can't hit a long-enough home run.
I just checked, and jason has made the Olympic team, Leila! He has a stronger "resume" than the newcomer, so he made it, tho I almost wish the newcomer had made it, too. I'm hoping Ilia will be picked as the alternate...if they still pick such. (By the way, I only have one aunt left...and her name is LeIla, too!)
Ilia Malinin was placed as first alternate. The reason the selection exists is for people like Ilia, who have zero experience on the international state at the senior level. The pressure that putting someone with so little experience on the Olympic team is not just bad for medals but it's bad for the athlete, who can be crushed by the scrutiny. They placed Ilia as first alternate, which in these current Covid times, gives him a better than average shot at skating. Better to have him travel this way and get more experience at the Senior level than be obliterated by the pressure at 17 years old.

Jason is the most artistic skater I have seen since Johnny Weir. Even though he has trouble with quads his other jumps are magnificent!
Totally blown away by the emotion in this. Just stunning! Go Jason!
The choreo sequence was just 💯! I wanna cry.
