There's even room for a little comic relief in this excellent retelling of Nixon's "Final Days." Lane Smith's Nixon is probably the best impersonation yet captured on film.
One of my all time favorite history moments acted out extremely well from Mr. Nixon's autobiography. I wish I was along for this ride and I must admit, I would not have bothered with the seat belt. Secretary Henry Kissinger's expression is priceless and probably pretty accurate. I would have gotten out of the dark blue Lincoln Continental at the end of joy ride bent over laughing out loud.
The most powerful, AND LAUGHABLE, men back in those days.... Please someone make a film of them PLEASE! Will Ferrel could do an awesome job! replacing any of them.
One would have believed Nixon and Brezhnev both knew better than sitting in a car without their seatbelts on. Well Nixon at least realized buckling up might be a good idea. Seems like Brezhnev was tired of all that serious political talk and decided to have a little fun. :)
McLarenMercedes ......I went to Russia on holiday a few years back to a beach resort called Sochi .... a beautiful place. Several times we got a taxi from some bar or another and it is a great insult to the driver if you put your seat belt on! We learnt this as we went on......, the hotel owner wouldn’t let us leave the hotel in the evening until we had shared 2 vodka shots with him......and the water parks let you go down 4 people at a time.....Russia rocks! 🇷🇺
The clip lacks an important detail: in reality, the Soviet interpreter Viktor Suhodrev also joined the two leaders, having rushed into the backseat. Although, the then USSR Ambassador to the US Anatolyi Dobrynin claims it was him who interpreted the two leaders' conversation inside the car. But in any case, there definitely was an interpreter in that car.
There was actually a similar incident during Brezhnev’s visit in Bonn, the West-German capital. As a nice gesture, the West-German government gifted him a spanking new Mercedes. Brezhnev immediately broke it…
“In 1973 on the occasion of a state visit the German Chancellor Willy Brandt gave him a Mercedes Coupé SL version 450 SLC as a present. On a spontaneous nocturnal test drive on the serpentine road leading to Hotel Petersberg in Bonn-Bad Godesberg, Brezhnev did total the car in an accident.” He’s so awesome

Yeah for real. If an accident occurred and if anything happened to either of those men, it could've escalated the cold war quickly. Because ppl in each country ain't gonna believe their leader was "killed in an automobile accident" with just the 2 of them alone. lol

You can see this Brezhnev's car in Riga Motor Museum (Latvia). Very nice!

Yes, according to the memoirs of Nixon, this event took place during the visit of Leonid Brezhnev to the United States in June 1973.
The movie was based on Nixon's diary, memories of his bodyguard and etc., so i believe it is :)
The actor who played Brezhnev was Boris Sichkin, who also portrayed him in Oliver Stone's "Nixon" (1995)
I thought Nixon was in that 1995 Stone flick
Леонид Ильич так искренне рад этому подарку😁👍
