      crazygolum - 'Sanchin' may be great, but this demonstration of Sanchin was appalling.

    Absolute Inpenitrablity.
    Senpai Hanshi is not there?
    That would be comforting, indeed.

    Sensei Dozono= Shito Ryu

    • @sanseiryu
      @sanseiryu 3 года назад +1

      Dozono sensei is SKIF or Shotokan not Shitoryu. Dozono has been promoted to 9th degree black belt by the Shotokan Karate International Federation.

    This isn't a style of karate I've ever studied but I couldn't see understand any bunkai for these katas. Much of this looked more like tai chi. Maybe I'm just ignorant though. I'm sure these masters were animals in their prime

    • @sanseiryu
      @sanseiryu 3 года назад +1

      Yes, you are ignorant. There were several schools/styles represented here. Okinawan Gojuryu, Shorinryu, Isshinryu. The kata that were performed were Sepai, Seisan, Bassai, Shisochin, Chinto, Wansu and the group kata was Sanchin. Apparently you don't train in any known Japanese or Okinawan school of karate because if you did, you would have had to have at least one of the kata in the the syllabus. If you can't see the bunkai in the katas then you have no understanding of karate or what bunkai is, so I don't know why you are even commenting on this video. The kata Shisochin was the kata performed with the three stepping strikes with the open knife hands or nukite. This is the most straightforward kata to understand bunkai or applications. Easy to visualize since the actions are simple to understand. Starts with middle level open hand blocks, then three knifehand strikes to the eyes, throat, solar plexus soft targets. Then a step back wrist grab release. Step forward at 45 degree openhand block or wrist grab release. Underhand grab of opponents wrist, hard twisting turn driving forearm into opponents extended elbow. Opponents bear hug from behind. Feet together, drop and simultaneous elbow strike to the ribs and fist strike to opponents face. Four directions palm heel strikes. Open hand block, pull opponent into front kick and elbow strike to the face or sternum. Repeat openhand block, grab opponents extended elbow, drive into elbow and break it or drive opponent into the ground. Finish with double upper and lower, open hand blocks. That's the simple bunkai for Shisochin. Seisan kata is perhaps the oldest known kata in karate, found in all four of the major schools of karate. Sanchin/Samchian/Sanzhan or Three Battles was brought to Okinawa and is still known in many Southern Chinese White Crane styles today. Sanchin is found in Japanese and Okinawan Gojuryu, Uechiryu, Shitoryu and Kyokushin. It is a kata that trains your body, mind and spirit to become one. You will often see instructors striking the body, legs and arms while the person is performing Sanchin. Bassai/bassai dai/ bassai sho/passai is one of the most common kata performed in tournaments. Chinto, Wansu and Seisan are also known as Gangaku, Empi and Hangetsu in Shotokan. The Gojuryu seemed to be represented by Morio Higaonna's instructors. Look up Morio Higaonna and Chojun Miyagi. This was the style where the origin of the wax on wax off, sand the floor, paint the fence trope from the Karate Kid movies came from. Most specifically the kata Tensho. Shorinryu is the school of Okinawan karate separate from the naha-te schools (Gojuryu, Uechiryu, Ryueiryu) Kata from Shorinryu include the Pinan(Heian) Naihanchi(Tekki) Kusanku(Kanku Sho/Dai) Gojushiho, Jion. Isshinryu is a hybrid of the Shorinryu and Gojuryu styles. Isshinryu is one of the most widespread styles in the United States, spread mostly by American Marines who were taught in Okinawa in by Tatsuo Shimabuku after WWII. Isshinryu is known for the vertical fist punch and blocking with the meaty part of the forearm rather than the bone. Just the minimal Google search would have given you information about what you asked about. Have you even watched Taichi? How you could even compare it to what was in the video? Just a general search of RUclips would have given you the understanding that you know next to nothing about karate.

      @@sanseiryu I apologize if I offended you with my comment. I have been studying shotokan karate my whole life (although that amounts to only 19 years) and when I said I didn't study these styles I meant more so the focus of their style of training. I've only focused on competition and the federation I am from is rather closed minded and only practiced a very showy, watered down version of karate. I very much appreciate you explaining the kata to me, you seem extremely knowledgeable and passionate about traditional karate. Since leaving that first comment I have begun learning more about kata in it's more original form and the application of it. My comment about it seemingly like tai chi was more based on what I thought was a lack of power in their kata (again the karate I had always been was much more exaggerated and had larger movements), I have now found that this was totally wrong. Again thank you very much for sharing your knowledge and time

      @@fulcrumoffunk8449 Finn, I wasn't offended. I apologize if I sounded harsh with my comment. I thought from your comment that it didn't seem as if you had any training in karate. Generally with your years of experience, despite the dojo you were in, most karateka wish to learn and absorb as much as they can not from just the style they are familiar with but from those styles, schools, instructors they have little knowledge of. The small elderly sensei is the head of the Canadian SKIF. A branch of Shotokan which you probably should have recognized. I'm sure his version of Empi isn't that much different than yours. I believe he was 75 years of age at the time. The first sensei was the youngest at around 54 years of age. The rest I think are in their late 60's or more. All are either head of or chief instructors within their respective organizations as well. That you are willing to learn from other styles and other forms of karate speaks well of you. Be well and thanks for your thoughtful comment.

    All black belts and no one even remotely seems to have a similar stance or grasp of this kata. Pay for a seminar just to do some breathing excercise that is suppose to develop what??
