I was one of the 14,000 people. I was with the people that I cared about most at the time, my friends, who had become my brothers. We all go through life, and we have amazing moments. Like when you meet the love of your life, or the birth of your children, and at those times you are like wow this is the happiest time in my life. But, then I hear this song, and I am immediately transported back to a time when I wasn't quite as grown up as I thought I was. A time where the stress of responsibility and the knowledge that I am not immortal were not even a concept that I would consider. Goosebumps rise, and my heart swells. That time, with those people was also the happiest time in my life. I am blessed beyond measure to have had an amazing life, that I hope doesn't end anytime soon, surrounded by people I love. There is never one happiest time in our lives. Thank you Aaron for being a big part of one of mine.
2001, Im totally addicted to meth, lost in a town I didnt know, all I had on me were my clothes, a few personal items, my discman with Staind Break the Cycle, learned every word of the whole album, eventually Staind music help me quit drugs. Aaron Lewis is one of the most musically talented people on Gods green earth, lets all hope and pray he dont fall victem to the curses of being a superstar.
Danny, glad to hear you're improving your situation. Keep up the good work man! I think it's safe to say if he hasn't fallen victim yet, he's not going to. His shows are personal. It's quite an experience if you haven't seen him recently.
What you just shared hits me hard. We don't know each other but I want to tell you that I am so very proud of you no matter how you or what made you make the decision to stop. I lost my son at age 22 in 2014 to an accidental heroin OD and leaving his 5 year old daughter behind. My heart is forever broken. I am sure any and all of your friends and family would have been devastated as well. I'm sure you know it now that it was the best thing you could have ever done for yourself and all who love you. I can't express how much it means to me and probably many others I know to see even just one person fight the fight. Struggle through it and reach the highest step. Success. Please keep it up and keep fighting because you are stronger than the drug, remember that. xoxo
@@cheradubi1194 thank you for letting me know my words effect people in a positive way. Im very sorry for the pain youve experienced, especially in losing a child to addiction, its every parents nightmare that the next phone call will be "the one" when theyve got a child out runnin. You had to actually live that scenario or close to and thats a hard pill to swallow. I thank God everyday I made it out. Just know you will be reunited with your son when it comes time. Much love. Stay safe in these strange times.
November 1 2021. I lost my mother to her battle against diabetes, dialysis, and 6 mini strokes. Back in 2,000 I was riding down a back road with my mom in her mini van listening to the radio and she says we can't change the station there's a song I heard on here and I want you to here it. It's from someone who I've never heard of but the lead singer from that biscuit band you like is on there.😄 A few minutes later I discovered a true gem. And who would eventually become my favorite artist ever. Fast forward to early 2021 I am putting my 1 year old down to sleep. I start singing lost and lonely and she instantly calms down. She emotionally connected to it in the way I'm connected to Outside with my mother. Aaron Lewis if you ever read this I can tell you of one family (3 generations) that you have had a profound impact on our lives! You've helped me through some dark times and I pray there's a day I get to see you live! My only regret is I didn't get to show this to my mother before she passed.
I lost my mother to the same thing. She really liked this guy. I introduced her to him a few years ago. God please watch over your mother in Heaven. I bet my mom met your mom and watching us right now. The pain is gone however, we will never forget.
The vast majority of gigs I go to the bands don't say a fucking word to the audience they just bang out their tunes. This bloke is a absolute gem and thoroughly fascinating to listen to.
When he’s playing live with Staind, he doesn’t talk at all. I just saw them a couple days ago and he didn’t say a single word to the crowd until the end and all it was “We’re Staind from Springfield, MA. God bless you and god bless America.” Drops the mic and walks off. That was the only disappointing part of the show.
Right now my mind is completely blown! I've loved this song and has been one of my favorites since it came out and just... wow! Such a great songwriter and it shows just how amazing people are and how some people are just made for this.
He invokes true raw emotional substance and I can't get enough of his music. Seeing him perform live is definitely on my bucket list. Thank you Aaron Lewis for the blessing us with your talent, brevity, and longevity. "THE REAL MUTHERFUKKING DEAL Y'ALL!"
I was at that Show. Saw him perform it for the first time. Met him and Fred and Wes and lethal-right before he created it. Fred even went to meet his mom at the casino. Got photos with them all! Fred was super nice. Aaron was a bit nervous. Method man Red man. Primus. Filter. Korn. LB. Gosh what a great show. AMAZING mosh pits too.

I don’t ever really know how to express my feelings or the craziness spinning in my head, but Aaron Lewis Always seems to know Exactly how to Articulate My thoughts......... Good or Bad.... It is what it is....... Everyone else might seemed to have everything figured out, but I’m just trying my best....
This is one of those amazing "lightning in a bottle" type moments. He had the bare bones of a song and didn't finish it until he was under the pressure of performing it in front of a very large crowd. And it all just came together so well. I am sure if he was able to spend more time developing the lyrics, he might have changed a few things, but what he came up with that night feels so perfect that he should not try to change it at all even if he feels it could be better. That is pure magic.
I had bought a night club (like a dumb ass). Had it packed out. And hired this most beautiful girl in the world and she was there working as my bartender. She’d been there 2 weeks.. I’d feel in love with her and she didn’t even know I like her. I got drunk one night and got on stage and sing this song in front of the whole night club and dedication it to her. We’ve been married for 3 years now. Thanks Arron for words I needed.
for all who argue about the J-cat version. The end version is the "melody" similar but not the same. And lyrics except for the first parts with "all the times" and the refrain "I am on the outside" is nothing left from the J-cat version. They worked on the song for years but finished it live on stage. And it was their most important song for their career since then people know about them. Cuz it is a fucking masterpiece.

I could listen to him for hours, I know the pain of addiction, I am a heroin addict and I am very thankful to have some clean time and I have lost my brother to addiction. Died on my birthday and his music really keeps me in touch with myself. Thanks Aaron for all!!!!
One hell of a great freakin story! That’s awesome! Another reason Aaron Lewis is at the top of my list. (Whether just partially true or not I don’t care..Aaron rocks)
Yeah, sure , the crowd was yelling. It’s a rock concert! But notice how they immediately start singing with him the moment he transitions from story to song. That is the power of seeing an artist live.
To all those folks who didn't get to see a concert, like one from this fine fellow that would have been a few weeks ago for me, because of this virus, I say hang in there - our concert going days will be back and we'll be able to enjoy this kind of greatness in person again. Stay safe friends.
Great video. I saw him the very next night in Lake Charles, La. It was my 7th time to see him live overall. I saw him twice with Staind and five times since he went country. He didnt tell this story that night but I had heard it before. He is my all time favorite musician.

Aaron Lewis is Truly A one of kind Singer & Song Writer! ✊🏼🤘💯
I was at that show in Biloxi. No on knew who they were at the time, but immediately following the opening set there was 14,000 Staind fans clamoring for more.
I've watched 1000 videos of RUTLANDS OWN.....i picked up a Guitar 2 learn THIS TUNE!!!.......2 hear this from his mouth....makes ALL the (I can't even touch those 6 stings anymore because my fingers hurt so bad!!!) all worth while!! He puts Fred n Limp Buiskit to SHAME!!!! #802 #802 #802. We LOVE YOU Here A.L.!!! come back to the Paramount Theater EVERY MONTH !!! You're Beyond an inspiration, Youre a music GOD!!! fucking INSPIRING Is an UNDERSTATEMENT! CAN'T WAIT 2 see u again next year brother!!!
It's only half truth. The story happend at 'family values tour' with Limp Bizkit, Korn and other bands. But Aaron says that on that moment he didn't write the song yet. Well, it's not true. He wrote 'outside' in early 90' (92 or 93 im not sure), with the band JCAT (check it out on youtube). After that he didn't play this song for a long time. He played a part of Outside at Fred Durst house right after he put them into his record label (somwhere about 99 i think). And at the family values tour, he remembered only the chorus and chord progression. So yes - he made up the verses, but in fact, he wrote the song a long time before that. So actualy there are two versions of this song - staind one, and JCATs one - check them on youtube, they're both awesome.
It would help to understand that over time, there is probably thousands of sound checks, different songs, other things going through your mind at that time....like the energy of 14,000 people.
Love that your real through all the metal u always had an acoustic guitar just like me love ya brother they stereo typed you not u typing yourself been a fan since the first time I saw I with acoustic guitar
Caught this one with my buddy, bobby o and will do it again. Aaron has a tremendous voice, the venue dictates the level of input from crowd. Regardless, great artist and show.
Thanks for the video, I am not native English speaker, having difficulty in hraring the speech clearly. Can someone kindly give the summary of the story Aaron told about the song please...
Essentially, he walked into a band called Limp Bizkit’s dressing room, and was talking with the lead singer Fred Durst, about doing an acoustic song, and Fred says to Aaron “let’s do the one you wrote in my house years ago” and Aaron was like “sure!” But he only had the Chorus written, so he was sweating like crazy, having to make up most of the song on the spot in front of 14,000 people and Fred Durst.
Idk why I was laughing so hard watching this! As if I was there. Maybe it's being in your mid 40s and looking at your life and can totally relate! He's a funny f+cker isn't he! Love this!
Went to his show in July in Connecticut and he announced that Staind was back together and coming to Connecticut in October. I see Aaron every year at Foxwoods and in 2019, i got to see him twice. Once with his country band and Staind. Check out Staind @ Foxwoods October 6, 2019 on here. The whole concert was FIRE!
I’m from Mass and have seen Staind probably 15-20 times and I remember the first time they played it in Massachusetts that tour. It was at the Centrum Center in Worcester, Ma. The place was fkn sold out and I was probably like 16ish. They played with Korn I believe and I think Mindless Self Indulgence. They ended up releasing a live cd version of that and it got air play on WAAF 107.3 radio station in Boston. And I remember that version of that fucking song was on the radio 3 times every hour for like 2 years straight after that lol it was awesome, it sounded way better than this version he is telling us about with Fred Durst. He had a cool amount of reverb on his voice and guitar and it just sounded fucking awesome. Check it out on RUclips.
I miss all the anger , angst and pain that stained and other grunge metal bands pumped out, other then goodsmack dropping something new now and then there is just no music coming out these days that even comes close since cornell died.

Gins Aaron’s been around since 1998 lol. That walking dead dude is his lookalike.
"Little pig! Little Pig!
LET! ME! IN!"
No. Negan looks like him.

What up with you. Deal with what's hurting you. People need your songs. They need you . Much ♥️🙏🤞
It's only half truth.
Will check this out . Thanks

Thanks cliff! Lol
He pretty much says that in this video.
Why scream the entire time during these acoustic shows..
🤷🏻♂️🧠&💓❤️💓👍🏻❣️
cuz theyre drunk and having fun
@@Gdog692 thank you
Buying this now on iTunes
No loss great add I’m sold 😎🎸
Idk why I was laughing so hard watching this! As if I was there. Maybe it's being in your mid 40s and looking at your life and can totally relate! He's a funny f+cker isn't he! Love this!
Went to his show in July in Connecticut and he announced that Staind was back together and coming to Connecticut in October. I see Aaron every year at Foxwoods and in 2019, i got to see him twice. Once with his country band and Staind. Check out Staind @ Foxwoods October 6, 2019 on here. The whole concert was FIRE!

I wish if the crowd would just shut up so I could hear everything that he says, sheesh,
He seems very drunk at the stage. But I think he can sing this song anytime in any situation.
Can't stand when people yell if an artist says one damn word. They can say, hey then you hear woooo. Let the man talk.
Crazy to see him with hair lol.
Alejandro Huerta yeah lol
He looks sexy as hell to me. 😉
Most of his songs hit me right at my heart ♿😎💗
Aww it adds to his story and he is such a goofball and hidsmother is correct! Always makes me smile!
Caught a bolt of lightning in a Mason jar. May or may not have drank the Moonshine From.
A-Low35 Must have been that Tennessee moonshine... 😆

Wow....Mississippi Coast Colosseum....I saw Ozzy and CandleBox there back in the day. Great memories.
Lots of love ❤
Check it out on RUclips.
is Aaron Lewis ............... Neegan?
Chris Taylor he is 😉😎
Right!????? Thank God I wasn't the ONLY ONE!!!!!
Even though he made it up on the spot it's still better than today's crap that they have to think about or not think about .
I miss all the anger , angst and pain that stained and other grunge metal bands pumped out, other then goodsmack dropping something new now and then there is just no music coming out these days that even comes close since cornell died.
imo one of the best songs you have.. winging it or not.. . it still tears me apart.. .fuck my ex.. lol
Im confused, i thought it was made with J-Cat first?
What about JCAT being 1997 or 8??? Thats the original 7 minute song with the most raw emotions
Definitely most talented
Аарон, ты офигенный малый) привет тебе из россии)
People can’t control themselves screaming an yelling while he’s talking lmao
This might be the most incredible thing every!!
