Good on them for realising older workers are careful, capable and reliable

I was a younger nomad decades ago, along with the grays., we picked grapes, worked the fruit canneries, earned good money and enjoyed life. 😅

Seasonal work is hard work at any age, more so in senior years. Great respect 👍🏻

The Grey Nomads don't need a safe space, aren't a HR disasters and actually turn up to work on time.

The more remote you go in Australia the easier it is to find work and it quite often finds you.

Our generation (69 in 5 days) know how to work hard and consistently.
I pity the current generation, all they know is internet gadgets.
As one wise soul put it, they have instant "information" at hand, but no actual knowledge.
    Not all, mind.

You know the generation prior said very similar things of your generation when you were younger. Your comment is and has always been something said of the next generation

I’m still young enough(mid 50s) to remember when I knew it all. 😉
I also remember life before the internet… at least we had people with real life experience guiding us in person in our youth. I don’t generalise the younger generations though, I know many who have a fantastic work ethic, and a few who don’t. I think that is a constant throughout generations.

Can only earn $200 extra per fortnight otherwise the Govt starts taking pension away. I would say anyone doing this has a self funded retirement where extra income does not effect Govt payments. 12 x 5 is 60 so these people are doing a 60hr week which is in violation of the pension so none of them would get any pension at all & not be classed as pensioners due to work hrs & pay.

Incorrect. The Age Pension Work Bonus increased permanently to $11,800 per year on January 1, 2024. This increase also included a $4,000 starting balance for new pensioners. Thanks to the ALP Gov. The LNP would never do this. Apart from the twice yearly automatic CPI increases in March and September each year the LNP have NEVER provided any increases to pensio or unemployment rates. Only Labor governments have.

This means that both a single person and each member of a couple can earn $400 pf before their pension is affected. Each dollar over that reduces their pension by 50cents for each additional dollar earned. The current earnings amount which would reduce your pension rate to zero dollars is $2500.80 for single pensioners and $3822.40 for a pensioners couple who would normally be on the full pension rate. If you have a zero rate of pension for 6 consecutive fortnights ie 12 weeks then your pension would be cancelled. As the harvesting period is only 8 to 10 weeks you could finish working on one farm then have a week or 2 off and start working on another farm
The 12 week zero rate period starts again. This information is available on the Services Australia website. I suggest you look it up before you make such ill informed comments.

There are NO restrictions to how many hours an Age Pensioner works. They can work 100 hours a fortnight if they want to. It is the income that they earn which must be reported which affects their pension.

@@pammelvaine8176Looks like there's a bit of confusion here. Just to clarify, it’s not about the hours worked, but the income earned that impacts the Age Pension. With the Work Bonus now at $11,800 annually (plus the $4,000 starting balance for new pensioners), many can work more without losing their pension. It’s great to see these changes helping pensioners stay active and earn extra. Thanks for pointing it out

Nomads are the only ones who can afford to go to where the crops are come harvest time.
