The other games are more hopeful. In this game, the resistance is desperate and are backed into a corner. That this song is more or less the very FIRST thing you hear in the game says it all. They're more established and secured in the later games, which is why the music is also more upbeat.
For me, this theme is perfect for the four guardians. Like, they were created from a benevolent reploid for the greater good but were repurposed by a copy of said reploid to become genocidal towards their own kind. In other words they aren’t evil themselves but are following the wrong orders unknowingly. I sense a lot of lore from them.
Presuming a good and benevolent X once ruled Neo Arcadia. It's possible many of the bosses Zero fights in the series were once not so cut and dry villains. We know its the case with the Gentle Judges, at least. It's just once Copy X got in charge he started pushing out 'upgrades' to reinforce loyalty out of paranoia and fear. Which is what started the rebellion, of course. You either got 'upgraded', or became a Maverick.

As for Phantom he learned the truth about Omega, Zero and everything related to the elf wars in cyberspace and desired to see if Zero could possibly still stand a chance against the real body omega had, with him praising Zero for his strength after that optional fight concluded. And the living 3 all ended to be there to finally finish what Weil started all those years ago and to be reunited with the True X in cyberspace.
The fact one of the first boss battles is a race against the time trying to save innocents from a trash compressor...is a good sign this is not gonna be a "whimsical Mega Man" game.

Imagine going to sleep and waking up a century later in a ruined future turned completely upside down, and you're the only thing LEFT with the balls to take down the machine. This theme was always perfect for that. It reminds me a lot of Blasphemous, except in a post-apocalyptic sci-fi universe instead of a fantasy medieval one.
_Playing the first game, this theme slaps and clashes with the theme of the Zero franchise. As the games go on, it's less serious considering there are more difficult bosses to fight. But it's still one of the best in my opinion._

Makes sense, given the general panorama in the first game. Hits the hardest in the siege at the Resistance's Base, personally speaking - if Zero doesn't stop this thing, the Resistance will most likely fall.

Resonnant vie wouldn't make sense, this is an intense battle theme, something that is creepy, and makes you sweat, Resonnant vie is mostly calming and chill music, so, it wouldn't fit there
This theme is really fitting. It gives off just the right amount of instensity with an unsettleing melody. Which makes sense because Zero woke up not remembering anything of his past, and now having to face deadly reploids where one mistake could be his last. I love it

I think I just fully realized how the Zero series is the first mainline Mega Man series to sort of leave the power metal aesthetics behind in the soundtrack department. It's really refreshing to think about how it goes for a more atmospheric, moody and soulful vibe. This sound partially goes away for the sequels, but it's still core to the sound of the series. Mega Man Zero/ZX has a fanbase that is sometimes cringy and obnoxious, but the games are good. I should get the upcoming collection.
Tbh, X's fanbase is the worst, since it's the most mainstream in the west. Zero fans are fine, classic are mixed, I'd say. ZX is kinda cult, so the community is unfortunately super niche and reserved.
X has definitely the cringiest fanbase but even then the megaman fanbase is actually nice for the most part compared to others. ( I do hate the classic fanboys who want megaman 12, 13, 14… 99 instead of asking for a new series or finishing the ones that are still to be continued though lmao but eh hopefully one day we can finally get a conclussion for all the unfinished plots like volnutt on the moon or ZXA's new world)

I usually use Buster in contrast with the Z-Saber, kill ranged enemies with the Buster and closer enemies with Z-Saber. After all, the more you use your weapons, the more your skill is.

I find it funny that Stagroff and Necromancess are the only non-Guardian bosses that I can vividly remember, and they happened to return for Z3.

fun fact all of the DS collection games have blood when you kill enemies with the saber.
Barry Bend if you activate a Mod card, probably. I beat all of them, and no blood came out of the enemies when i defeated them with the Z Saber.

I think it's supposed to be some sort of hot debris. If I remember correctly, in Zero 3 and 4 you slash enemies you kill with the saber in half.
