I remember seeing this when I was stationed in Kitzingen Germany, we were up like 2 or 3 in the morning to watch this, talk about american soldiers celebrating... She gets the ultimate props
I was 15. I was there seeing this in person. I’ll never forget her vault on one leg landing. You couldn’t even hear yourself think after it was announced they had won it.
I think Shannon Miller seems like a sweetheart. Look at her leave her place in line to lift Kerri onto the podium and then she waits to help her down even though everyone else is already filing out.
I know, you'd think the team captain, Bordin would see to it... I guess it's just an honorary thing. I was stunned to find out that Miller suffered from ovarian cancer - and is so far (and god willing) cancer free for over 5 years. That's amazing with ovarian cancer... it's more often then not, fatal within a year.
Elisheval I think it also has to do with placement and timing Shannon is closer, so it's easier for her to get to Kerry whereas Amanda she's all the way at the other end.
If you watch the video you will see Shannon and Amanda were discussing who would help Kerri. It's Moceanu and Chow that only cared about themselves and Dawes but that's par for the course with her.
I was 11 when I was lucky enough to watch this live. I still remember it like it was yesterday. And it still gets me choked up... Just an absolutely amazing moment in Olympic history! One of the best!
These are the only women athletes that ever gave me chills. They gave everything they got and won the gold medal for the US. Great memories watching the Olympics as a kid.
Never get tired watching this, especially the part where Amanda was likely giving instruction on how to help Kerri step on the podium and you can see Shannon Miller gesturing she'll do it then asked Dominique M for assistance. What a team!
To the 32 year old who acts like a 5 year old: Some of us like coming back to this video and remembering the moments that defined our childhoods. Though I am not a gymnast, the way Kerri pushed through her injury was an inspiration to me later in life in the sports I did end up competing in. This team deserved their gold, just like it deserved silver in Athens and in Beijing. And they will deserve whatever they get tomorrow night.
I dont remember 1996 very well (i was 12) but i do remember that vault and how amazing it was. Kerri Strug and the rest of that gymnastic team will always be legends in my eyes!
Watching the clip of Bela watching Kerry in instant you see him go from happy and elated to very much concerned like Father wanting to rescue his little girl and rushing to be by her side. Great coach, greater friend and mentor.
Was emotional watching this at the age of 12 and now 25 years later I cry even more. The guts and tenacity of Kerri!! The first US gymnastics team to win gold is monumental. My most fave olympic moment 🇺🇲
I remember being glued to the tv when this originally aired! I was 16 and knew this would become one of the most incredible moments in Olympic history. I mean talk about a moment every competitor dreams about! Still my favorite moment ever!
I never get tired of watching this. It brings tears to my eyes everytime. I live in Atlanta, and I was here when all this was going on. I love these girls, they are the best!!
This year was the only year I ever watched the Womens Olympic gymnastics team with interest, and actually cared about it. If I could name a Olympic dream team, The Magnificent 7 would be it. There never was nor ever will be a team like this. Kerri pulled off the improbably, the probablility that she could land that last vault, and get enough points to beat the Russians was nothing short of a miracle, even though it was later known we didn't need it. Way to get it done.
I remember this night like it was yesterday. I was watching it live with my parents and watching history being made. I was 19. Tuesday July 23rd, 1996. 22 years ago. Man how time goes by fast.
I’ll never forget this moment it’s was a month before my 18th birthday and senior year of high school it was incredible moment to watch on television that night something I’ll forever and always remember they where my inspiration I absolutely loved this team and still do
I recorded the entire competition on VHS, but unfortunately didn't set the VCR long enough to record this part and I was so pissed. So happy I can find it here now!
This still brings me chills watching this. I was only 14 at the time this happened and I was so happy that they won the medal. Without these seven, we wouldn't have Shawn Johnson or Nastia Liukin and others that made their mark since then. :)
Somethinge else I liked about this team is that they all seemed to get along. There don't seem to be any rivalries, even though some are better at things than others.
20 years ago this happen this summer I'm so excited to see them be reunited at the Olympic trials in San Jose it's gonna be awesome Atlanta is a night I'll never forget I remember watching this on tv it was an unforgettable moment tears streaming down my face watching all 7 sing our lady's national anthem so special so proud. Happy 20th.
I think that even though she was in so much pain there was no way that she wasn't going to stand with her team and get the gold medal around her neck even if she could have never walk again
I was 13 even this happened. Great memories of watching this with my family. No one will ever beat these girls in my eyes. Ty for putting this on here.
That is Kerri Strug. She fell and tore two ligaments in her ankle on her first vault. Then she stood up, worked through the pain and stuck the landing on one leg to win team gold. She was in so much pain, but she took one for the team and made history.
I watched this last night because I DvR it off the Olympic channel so many memories of that night and I still won’t ever forget it that team was special my dream is to meet Jaycie Phelps when this corona virus 🦠 pandemic is lifted. And there are no restrictions
I remember watching this live and it was one of AMERICAS finest moments and she showed such strength. I am so proud if her and her accomplishment. This should be a lesson for all young people out there. Your dreams my be painful to get there but so worth it. Never stop dreaming and never give up.
This takes me back to high schol and watching straight US women's olympics and Michael Johnson litterally flying down the track and winning every race he attended. The 90's were great!
This was a great moment in American history. God bless each one of those little girls God bless bela karolina. And God bless forever the spirit grit and determination of a pint sized little girl whose grit and determination saved the day and brought glory to herself her team and her country. This is what America is all about. Working together to win against all odds.
Yeah! You´re totally right. I hope the next US team remember this, how that 96 team first objective was win a "team" gold medal. I hope they remember to Kerri, how she ,literally, sacrified herself for the team and they won!
This is still to this day the most amazing olympic Gold the USA ever won. To pull off what Kerri Strug did was unbelivable. To land that vault on one foot. Come on...you are never going to top that. How she even ran on that leg with two torn ligaments is just uncomprehendible.
SHE'S A ONE OF A UNIQUE KIND JEWEL, I WAS 12 YEARS OLD AT THAT MOMENT AND I'LL NEVER FORGET WHAT SHE DID FOR HER COUNTRY LIKE A SOLDIER IN THE BATTLEFIELD.
I can Remember this moment like it was Yesterday I was sitting in the Family Room with my Family Watching these Games I was going in to my Senior Year of High School.. And To hear the National Anthem on Tv to hear the athletes as well as the People in The Georgia Dome it was Breathless it like a moment you'll never forget and to See Keri Strug Land on that landing with just one foot was pretty special because thatz the one moment in time you shall never forget 7 woman strong 7 gold medals team
I remembered in 1993 or 1994 I cracked my tibia in a car accident. In 1995 to 1996 I was in 6th grade going to 7th grade. And today now I'm not in school anymore I work the overnight and watching the Magnificent 7 get the gold back in 1996 on RUclips brings me tears to my eyes even when seeing Kerry Strugs made me think about how I felt when I hurt my leg in the car accident back when I was in 4th grade
I met the Dr Who Treated Keri Strug in the 1996 Olympic Games and To go back to those memories from those games i'll never forget it The National Anthem in the Georgia dome with everyone singing it it was so bittersweet 7 Gold medals 7 Woman Strong.. Hopefully in London We can charish more memories and Bring home the gold for the first time since 1996 USA Gymnastics is the best.. :)
HOW was Kerri Strug able to even walk never mind flip, jump? (I know she landed on her uninjure foot) That's Olympic spirit! It pushes people to do the impossible.
I watched this on tv back in '96 too in my early 20's. I thought Kerri Strug was electric in every event she placed. Thought Amanda was great too. They all were.
Look at the positive side. Two Olympics for Kerri and team medals in both. She would have been great in AA but she ended her career on a very high note. She will always be remembered.
I walked around on my broken ankle for an hour one night and I was limping the whole time, and as a former gymnast I couldn’t even imagine competing with an injury like that
My Biggest motivation ever! I really want to see and talk to them! Sadly I think I never could do that😭 i'm even acting like the are in my gym so I get motivated
It's hard to compare those gymnasts. Nastia and Shawn did go 1 and 2 in the AA. Although Strug would have medal as well in AA if she didn't get injured. They are all great.
A real American Super Hero. All seven of those young ladies we're outstanding. It's a shame we let them down by putting true monster's watch over them.
The problem with most of the teams now is that they only have a minimum of 1 world championship experience. The Mag Seven had (outside of Moceanu) had each been to at least two world championships. That experience is so valuable.
When you walk in a champion..... and are carried out a legend.
I remember watching this, knowing that I was seeing history happen.
it’s even crazier when you realize larry nassar is one of the people “helping” her and all those coaches were abusing their athletes.
I remember seeing this when I was stationed in Kitzingen Germany, we were up like 2 or 3 in the morning to watch this, talk about american soldiers celebrating... She gets the ultimate props
Thank you so much for your service!
I watched this moment back in 1996 I was 16yrs old and I still get emotional.. Thanks Kerri for ur dedication and sacrifice..
AWESOME🇺🇸🇺🇸👍👍❤❤❤
I was 15. I was there seeing this in person. I’ll never forget her vault on one leg landing. You couldn’t even hear yourself think after it was announced they had won it.

And Dominique (Moceanu)
I never noticed that before.
I still admire Dominique Moceanu like crazy!! She is just adorable!!!
I love that when she is asked about this moment she comments on the fact that she wasn't wearing pants and her teammates were.
Madden T Yes!
and also they weren't in the right order
I would have thought the same if it was me.😂
They were the dream team
I was 11 when I was lucky enough to watch this live. I still remember it like it was yesterday. And it still gets me choked up... Just an absolutely amazing moment in Olympic history! One of the best!
In that case, I hate you... :oP
I cried like a baby when this wonderful moment happened.
At 7 years old i loved Dominique Dawes:/i just watched the documentary so I’m on a nostalgic trip
I still cry every time I see this. I remember it so well. I always loved how Shannon stayed on the podium waiting to help Kerri down off of it.
What gets me is that you can hear EVERYONE singing in the anthem. It brings me to tears seeing the athletes sing and hearing the crowd❤️❤️🇺🇲🇺🇲
Back when america wasnt so liberal
Back when they had class and respect.
you all are racist
I still cry at this.
Me, tears fallen
I still get goosebumps.... She's unbelievable.... Will be rememberd always ❤️❤️❤️❤️Tru fighting spirit💕💕💪💪
These are the only women athletes that ever gave me chills. They gave everything they got and won the gold medal for the US. Great memories watching the Olympics as a kid.
had to throw in the women comment lmao

Watching the clip of Bela watching Kerry in instant you see him go from happy and elated to very much concerned like Father wanting to rescue his little girl and rushing to be by her side. Great coach, greater friend and mentor.
He is the reason her career ended. He pushed her too hard. Greedy man wanted nothing but that gold
I cried like a baby when this happened. Absolutely breathtaking.
Amazing! They are legends omg they made history.
Was emotional watching this at the age of 12 and now 25 years later I cry even more. The guts and tenacity of Kerri!! The first US gymnastics team to win gold is monumental. My most fave olympic moment 🇺🇲
magical. what a moment.
Sad today's Olympics are All About Politics & Not The Sport.
I remember being glued to the tv when this originally aired! I was 16 and knew this would become one of the most incredible moments in Olympic history. I mean talk about a moment every competitor dreams about! Still my favorite moment ever!
legendary
absolutely
The greatest night in USA history loved every moment of it
I never get tired of watching this. It brings tears to my eyes everytime. I live in Atlanta, and I was here when all this was going on. I love these girls, they are the best!!

What a remarkable team!!!! Never forget the magnificent seven.
Must have been awesome for them to have sung the National Anthem with thousands of their countrymen joining in.
Absolutely
@@dsfddsgh and on their home soil
Bela and Martha Karolyi, the couple that changed the history of the Gymnastics forever... From Nadia to the Fierce Five and the Final Five..
CheChox1234 and abused them all
And let Nassar sexually assault all of them on their property.
This still brings me chills watching this. I was only 14 at the time this happened and I was so happy that they won the medal. Without these seven, we wouldn't have Shawn Johnson or Nastia Liukin and others that made their mark since then. :)
I watched this with my then 6 year old daughter (she's 31 now & about to have a baby girl in late September). Can't believe it's been 25 years.
Somethinge else I liked about this team is that they all seemed to get along. There don't seem to be any rivalries, even though some are better at things than others.

Kerri Strug is the DEFINITION of a Patriot
I think that even though she was in so much pain there was no way that she wasn't going to stand with her team and get the gold medal around her neck even if she could have never walk again
Plus i think she was thinking screw the all around i got the gold with my team
@@sassbrat Yes, et she was the hero to the team

I love gymnastics..and it is moments like this that make me love the sport even more.. :)
My first time seeing this, I'm in tears of joy.
I loved they deserved the gold, I really enjoyed all the motivation of Kerri Strug and the others.
This takes me back to high schol and watching straight US women's olympics and Michael Johnson litterally flying down the track and winning every race he attended. The 90's were great!
giving props to these ladies I been watching this for years wow
Cynthia Hoggatt same I watch it every day! But Sadly I can't speak to them 😭
This is why you never give up #TeamUSA
These games where incredible to watch I’ll never forget that night that was amazing
Ohhh I remember eating this one up in 1996. I was literally jumping in front of the TV and they Kerri, while getting onto the podium, made me cry.
I am tearing up.....National Anthem and brave Strug
Now why am I tearing up in 2019 like I didn’t cry in 1996....I’ll never forget these ladies. Magnificent 7

Shock, adrenaline, a ton of determination and balls of steel
And the power of the Holy Spirit 🙃🙏🏻
I still never forget this team I hope they win it in 2028 I’ll be 50 at the next games in the United States I hope to run the torch for those games

the best gymnastic team of all time!!! luv them all!!!
Well done Kerri,brave and strong.
I remember this . I was an upcoming Senior in high school.
Their response to the national anthem should be shown everywhere... Today.
I walked around on my broken ankle for an hour one night and I was limping the whole time, and as a former gymnast I couldn’t even imagine competing with an injury like that
@LAX324 you're right, the vault wasn't needed. At the time though, they didn't know that. They were going for the "better safe than sorry" mentality.
My Biggest motivation ever! I really want to see and talk to them! Sadly I think I never could do that😭 i'm even acting like the are in my gym so I get motivated

G.O.A.T Olympic moment
Mag 7 forever in USA gymnastics history!
I wish so bad that I could go back and buy tickets to this event. It was only 5 hours from where I used to live.
Can anyone find me the film NBC played about the mag 7 before the fierce 5 won?
Kerri Strugg is the best athlete to ever perform under pressure
She said when Bela carried her she said I'll be the only one on the podium without pants lol.
I love the whole crowd singing the anthem along with the athletes...Can't we do that in every venue in this country? That would be awesome!
The problem with most of the teams now is that they only have a minimum of 1 world championship experience. The Mag Seven had (outside of Moceanu) had each been to at least two world championships. That experience is so valuable.
I felt the same way this year.
Hard to believe this was almost 30 years ago
