Heads up Ping, do not store your stark at 100% battery!! When letting the bike sit for any period of time it should be between 20-80% battery. Only charge up to 100 if you are going to ride it right away. Stark should really put a warning on the phone when the charge gets over 80. This will degrade the battery if it sits at 100. Cheers

Hey Ping! Ive put over 60 hours on mine now, and hard motocross aswell, I found it’s easier to keep ontop of the battery instead of chasing, do a moto and as soon as you come in throw it on the stand and charge, get a genny and just keep on it, charge it at max Kw at the track then just slow at home, and you will get way more riding in! Also you don’t need as much Hp as you think, the 48-60 range is way better then what you’d think and makes its far easier through the corners!

Put my money down when they first introduced. For the record I owned NCY for 30 years and have been riding all my life. All I can say is job well done Stark to come out as a new company and make this impressive of a bike first time is amazing. Funny to look at every ones faces when they come back from riding it. They want to hate it but come back and say its the most amazing dirt bike they have ever been on. I promise when battery technology gets better so weight and range is not an issue gas motors will be replaced and they will have to figure out how to pump noise into stadiums.
One thing I’ve noticed with my Stark is I don’t get arm pump like I do when I ride my 450. The other thing I noticed is my right hand (despite all the practice I have using my right hand over the years) goes numb on the 450. I’m sure the numbness is due to the vibration of the 450 where the stark has none, the arm pump I think is because the throttle is harder to twist on the 450 as well as the vibration. So just one thing I’ve noticed that I haven’t heard others talk about. But I agree with most of what she said about the motorcycle. It’s one of the funnest bikes I’ve ever ridden, but it’s a niche motorcycle. I use it to be stealthy on the trails near my house, especially when I’m making trails I probably shouldn’t be. Lol. When I’m trail riding, I can get away with having fun at 20 to 30 hp power and just have fun carrying speed and momentum. So I can get an hour and a half-ish out of it. I also raced it a month ago at Arizona cycle park and did all four motors without charging it but of course they aren’t long Moto. Since I use a solar generator in my RV when I do charge it, I don’t have to fire up the generator and for the most part, I’m charging it off the sun. But obviously that’s not reality for most people. Anyway, I think it’s a cool bike and it has its place and it’s not for everybody, hell I’ve got 20+ motorcycles and all of them are gas, but one.
I rode one of these last summer and actually I got more arm pump than my 450 but I think it's because it was my first time, and I wasn't used to the way it pulls out of corners. It's a rocket ship! I really want one after doing a moto on one. Super fun and I'd love to just ride it around my neighborhood too without upsetting everyone. LOL.
Liked the video just wish you had some raw sound I don't mind hearing that RC car sound of electric motor screaming down the track but the Tron soundtrack made up for awesome video man
Great vid, Ping. Bike looks sick. I picked up a 220V generator for mine at the track. I'm seeing about 1% charge per min. For instance, I plug it in at 40% at the track and I'm back to about 60% in 20 minutes.
Great job Ping. I would be interested in the durability, particularly after a “Get Off/Yard Sale”. Not that I am advocating someone wadding up, but unfortunately that is a huge part of our sport, also what is the maintenance and or maintenance cost or repair costs and who does the repairs?…Thanks
if you have a decent generator in the back of the van you can charge 1% a minute and for the average guy like myself 3-4 25min motos is enough riding im well spent after. the one thing is it needs a clutch or something to deactivate the rear wheel in case of whiskey throttle. i crashed went to pick her up and grabbed a little throttle and she took off.... imagine a marshall or flagger in that situation. Love it! its a very cool toy for casuals to get way more enjoyment out of of riding as she is soooo easy to ride. If you havent made your mind up please go test one.
Eventually, battery tech will resolve the capacity issue. But in the meantime, it may be a good idea to design the next gen Varg to have hot-swappable battery pack(s). It may be best to do this in a partial, hybrid manner which would provide the ability to hot-swap a portion of its overall capacity (call it a booster pack), and the bike would still retain a permanently installed (smaller) battery as well. A second booster pack would be on charger, ready to use at the truck, and the installed battery in the bike would then need less time to charge because it's a smaller unit. These are just musings. Seems to me that it'd be relatively easy to do this. I've never had the pleasure of seeing an actual Varg in person yet.
No it won’t. Lithium ion batteries have been refined since the 1970s and we’ve all heard about “the next great breakthrough” a thousand times. Lithium batteries are just like jet engines. Tapped out with no big advances coming and no realistic replacement. But if you want an EV that’s cool. 😎
I forgot to mention I also have a Rekluse hand brake I’m going to tie into the foot brake, primarily because I need a place to put my clutch finger. 😂 I went back-and-forth whether I wanted the hand or the foot break and I ultimately decided to stick with what I know and ordered it with the foot. But of course, I’m second-guessing that now. So I thought why not have both. But I have a feeling once I get used to the handbrake there will be no need for the foot break, but I’m gonna try it that way first.
I ran my handbrake in conjunction with the foot brake. Best of both worlds. Also, I don't worry about letting people try it out because the foot brake is there like normal, so they don't have to adapt in a panic situation (likewise myself).
@ my only warning about letting other people ride it, I let a novice friend ride mine and I gave it to him in 30 hp mode. He gave it back in 60…. He had no business having it in 60… and I didn’t notice. The next jump I hit l…I throttled it expecting 30 hp and instantly did half a backflip trashing my lumbar spine and 500 bucks damage to the Motorcycle. I won’t let anybody ride it over 40 hp who isn’t an intermediate, expert or pro. make sure you check the setting before you assume.😂😂
Good vid but don’t make the Stark louder, make the gas bikes quieter. Easy to do. A Stark with a top rider would change the sport and the AMA knows it.
I would advise anyone who has one of these bikes to consider putting a heat detector near where they charge them. These are typically only used when solar systems are equipped with a battery. JBI suspension is amazing!
@Ozfreerider_adventures so typically a heat detector is used when lithium batteries for a solar system are installed inside a home, usually the garage. They look like a smoke detector but detect heat in case of a charging or battery malfunction. Those batteries are gnarly when they malfunction. Typically they are mounted on the ceiling directly over the battery.
@ over the 1000s of these that have been built not 1 has caught fire that I’m aware off . And also , people’s houses are littered with lithium batteries in all kinds of devices . I know the stark battery is higher capacity by a huge amount but I don’t know what a heat detector is going to do , if one gets burning it’s already too late . Maybe you might be able to wheel bike out of garage but I wouldn’t be going near it if it was already on fire
@Ozfreerider_adventures failures are bound to happen eventually. Those stark batteries have a similar output to some of the solar system batteries, not something small like a cellphone or power tool. Sounds like stark suggests not leaving them to charge for a prolonged period of time, I'm sure there are people who do. That's just my 2 cents. If I bought one, I'd spend the 30 bucks and install one.
@ yeah you’re right people are pretty stuff if which is evident from the comments on Facebook pages . Sounds like pretty much nobody reads the manual to actually learn about the bikes they just asked a question of a forum and get advice from another people who also have no idea what they are talking about. When I ride mine it get changed back to 50% of its below that , and I only charge it to 100% at the last moment before I go riding or if I’m leaving early I’ll do it the night before . I think if you’re smart there should be no issues
Ping you need the right generator, pulsar 7500 4 prong 240 charges it fast,if you dont it takes 3 times as long.i do like 5 25 minute motos with little breaks in between, the last session you can go and run it down to 20 percent then go home.
Was gonna say the same thing..he must be charging at 110v a 240 volt 5kva generator with the charge rate setting on the varg bumped up to max, it should go from 40 % up to max in probably a bit less than an hour
Ping brilliant review mate, best I've seen on the Varg!! How many minutes of riding did you get at your speed before it needed charging? Also i think Varg have a factory foot pedal rear brake option available. You'd feel a lot more at home on it with the foot pedal rear brake.
Best thing to do if you want to make the riding time longer just drop a 450 motor in it😆 they should make it so it could have a quick change fully charged battery.
curious to know your thoughts on how the stock varg suspension compares to say a stock yz250F suspension.. Is it more rigid like a honda, or is it "as good" as the yamaha, which seems to be the "best" stock. That's a very popular bike that a lot of us have rode..
Radical. Thanks ping! Curious donyiu have much mtb experience? Seems the nest step to bar brakes will be cleats on your boots. Seriously. This could make the speeds un matched. Oh well thanks for having an open mind and throttle!! Its hard as you know to change people In Motos minds.. remember Henry on the four stroke..🙃😂😇👍🏾
When the 4-strokes were introduced in AMA Supercross/Motocross in 1997 it was only a matter of time before they took over and killed the 2-strokes primarily because the AMA gave an unfair displacement advantage to 4-strokes...A 450 4-stroke vs. a 250 2-stroke...get real. So it's just a matter of time until every bike on the track will be electric and they will kill internal combustion dirt bikes. Honda has already stated that they will not produce any internal combustion motorcycle engines after 2034 so it's just a matter of time before races sound like a bunch of RC cars.
Charge quicker, last longer, weigh as much or less than gas... what about tapping the rear brake in air? Preloading? Whips? Scrubs? Corners? Gatedrops?
Weight is almost a non factor when riding it, of course we wouldn't complain if it was lighter. Brake tap is almost too responsive, same with panic rev, it almost loops out! Whips and scrubs? See Patrick Evans. Corners? Feels great. Gatedrops? You're gone.
Why are you leaving at 100%? This is a stressed state for a battery that will lead to early battery degradation. Charge it to max just before you ride. I keep all lithium batteries between 20-80% most of the time . If it’s unused for a long time then I leave closer to 50%.
I feel like you explained it best. I think the same way, as much as electric bikes sound so feminine and have no soul, I do think they have a place and fun to ride.
Curious cause I haven't tried this yet , but how long does it last at race ( ish ) pace on 40 hp mode ? We're allowed to race MX1 , MX2 on 40 and after next VMX season I'm having a 68th birthday treat and race a couple of MX1 meetings . Never ever attempt to store the battery at 100% , follow the advice of your respondents ... Even on my first eMX , the Storm Bee ( 30 hp ) the suspension needed a work - over and a strange thing happened ; when the rear tyre dug in , found traction , after adjustment it sounded like it was flat ( the tyre ) under acceleration . Kinda cheating but yes , quiet bikes do have advantages .
electric bikes to soon be replaced with hover bikes that float over the track to be replaced with neural link bikes that you experience in a dream...aahh progress...I miss the old days already
I've got a surron and I've found the left handbrake so easy to adapt to? Could be because in Aus we ride our bicycles with the same R-front brake L-rear brake configuration? Americans are the opposite right? Why on a motorcycle it's R-front brake and the opposite on a bicycle? Makes no sense. Weird
Made the big look better but still ugly. It has its pro & cons, thanks for sharing facts & feeling hahaha moto is 1 place the later matters. Its funny its advantage is also a disadvantage the sound this is a concern for safety on track trail when riding listen for sound know where kids are at. For this bike could add more tech gps & proximity sensor &lights crazy shit for safety at cost. I get cut enough as is maybe electric shock sensor when to close to another rider….😮
I absolutely despise the profile of the seat. Why is it rounded on top? Feels like its trying to separate cheeks. Calm down stark... We just met... Hopefully that comes off as snarky but constructive criticism.
It doesn't need its own class. Its generally an assumption made by people who haven't ridden them mùch or haven't raced on. Ive raced mine a couple times..yeah they don't know you are coming up on them, you quickly learn to ride accordingly. It might be more of an issue at the professional level, but for the rest of us it isn't a big deal
I have a theory on this but could be totally off. Some of us old timers saw the four stroke evolution very late 90s early 00s. To be honest I thought four strokes were a passing fad. The four strokes were given an unfair advantage of twice the amount C.C.s. because of some bad math and this changed racing forever and stomped out the two stroke quick. With the four stroke revolution prices jumped up and raised the cost of entry to be “competitive”. I believe that is what many people are afraid of now, they saw the errors made with the four stroke and don’t want to make the same mistake. This Stark has the ability to change the game forever and raise the cost again. I have no hate towards the Stark but I am a bit cautious of just letting it in the Pro ranks of racing. Feel free to roast me and my theory its all good.
No one, pro riders included, can even ride 450 to its limits. There is no need for an 80hp, $14000 dirtbike. If they switch to electric bikes racing, say Goodbye to Mitch payton Pro circuit, FMF, Akrapovic, Maxima, sparkplug companies, air filter companies, carb companies, piston companies, local service shop, Its like putting a V-8 engine in golf cart for performance you will NEVER use and will destroy the market.

they should make it so it could have a quick change fully charged battery.
curious to know your thoughts on how the stock varg suspension compares to say a stock yz250F suspension.. Is it more rigid like a honda, or is it "as good" as the yamaha, which seems to be the "best" stock. That's a very popular bike that a lot of us have rode..
It’s good, but feels like it needs a few tweaks to make it as comfy as the YZ
what were your lap times like in comparison to regular bike?
I didn’t ride my gas bike that day. Will do soon.
They are fun but I still like old school 90% of what I like about dirtbikes is tinkering on them trying to make them faster better smoother.
no range/charge issues if you have 2 of them and a generator.
You cannot change bike in moto.
Just imagine a few sneaking in to the main thru the last chance qualifier at A1.
Predictably, hole shoting and than right in the damn way!
Then running out of power mid-race.
They would do a 25 minute supercross EASY
A Street Legal Enduro Model would be cool
They just launched it.
They just released one!
Pings looking fit
For sure I noticed that also, no homo though.
What if they build one with an onboard generator?, then it could make noise and charge while riding…….
Nice
Me need glasses. And typing class. 🙀
Until you crash and can't get away from it. Scary. And it would be tough to get your foot in and out for corners. Interesting idea though!
These batteries will thank you if you store them with half charge . Best not to charge to 100% and leave it stored .
Thats tru. You should charge it up to max only the night before a ride and leave it around mid range when not being ridden
Heraclitus- "The only constant is change."
I hear you, but change is inevitable, and unstoppable.
For the he money they want it should ha a lite weight lithium battery
When the 4-strokes were introduced in AMA Supercross/Motocross in 1997 it was only a matter of time before they took over and killed the 2-strokes primarily because the AMA gave an unfair displacement advantage to 4-strokes...A 450 4-stroke vs. a 250 2-stroke...get real. So it's just a matter of time until every bike on the track will be electric and they will kill internal combustion dirt bikes. Honda has already stated that they will not produce any internal combustion motorcycle engines after 2034 so it's just a matter of time before races sound like a bunch of RC cars.
Gotta get your fingers off the left rear brake lever out of turns Ping. LOL. Old habits...
Dude, I couldn’t. I’m so set in my ways!
Gatedrops? You're gone.
i rode one..a blast but it will destroy racing at the top level.
Why are you leaving at 100%? This is a stressed state for a battery that will lead to early battery degradation. Charge it to max just before you ride. I keep all lithium batteries between 20-80% most of the time . If it’s unused for a long time then I leave closer to 50%.
Good to know!
**angry vacuum cleaner noises intensify**
😂
No Mods = No Fun!!! 😂
Why aren't you charging at 240 volts off the generator? An hour will give you at least 50-60% charge.
electric bikes to soon be replaced with hover bikes that float over the track to be replaced with neural link bikes that you experience in a dream...aahh progress...I miss the old days already
We were supposed to have flying cars like the Jetsons by now and that didn’t happen. But I’d like a hover bike.😂
Ping you are i criminal with your e bikes
Good review, but definitely could’ve been about 12 minutes shorter.
This might sound corny but maybe some sort of a horn just for safety you know let people know you're there
They're on their way out guaranteed. By the way what the hell are you going to do with an old one? 🤷
geoff walker got a broken shoulder because of one of them
I absolutely despise the profile of the seat. Why is it rounded on top? Feels like its trying to separate cheeks. Calm down stark... We just met...
Hopefully that comes off as snarky but constructive criticism.
The Yamaha has a similar design. Do you find it easier to corner? Cause I’ve heard that around with the Yamaha and some of the stark riders
@Studio39FilmCo I haven't been able to ride the new yams yet. One of the few brands I don't have access to. For now...
266 pounds…..wow
It feels heavy when jumping and landings. Like jumping an XR600
@@stevesmith756 sort of! Definitely in landings but in the air if feels pretty weightless
@@whiskeythrottlemedia true. I shorted a jump at Fox on my buddies. Ouch! But man it rails turns awesome
Explain why it needs its own class. Nobody has really gave a logical reason - so far it’s been “just because”
It doesn't need its own class.
@ For racing, I don’t think you can beat instant torque and custom maps which you can dial in to specific areas of a track. Seems inevitable.
Because it is capable of more power, torque and delivery options than an ICE… would be worse than 4 stroke revolution.
@ exactly. It’s inevitable and just like missing the sound of “real” F1 cars, we will feel the same about SX and MX
Electric bikes are cool. If you're into dudes.
Cope
👎 Thumbs down for the homophobia. Lame.
@@gpaull2 thumbs down for you.
It’s going to be really embarassing when an electric bike blows past you. Maybe you can enjoy a beer with him later at the Blue Oyster Club though.
@derekmattice3077 that will never happen. I only ride two strokes to and from your moms house.
Sewing machine on steroids I tell ya
So you are handling all 80 hp are ya?
No one, pro riders included, can even ride 450 to its limits. There is no need for an 80hp, $14000 dirtbike. If they switch to electric bikes racing, say Goodbye to Mitch payton Pro circuit, FMF, Akrapovic, Maxima, sparkplug companies, air filter companies, carb companies, piston companies, local service shop, Its like putting a V-8 engine in golf cart for performance you will NEVER use and will destroy the market.
