- Hurricane Milton officially made landfall in Florida on Wednesday night. CBS News Miami correspondent Cristian Benavides reports from Tampa. Then, CBS News Chicago chief meteorologist Albert Ramon joins with the latest forecast. Plus, National Hurricane Center Deputy Director Jamie Rhome lays out the storm's future path.

Gracias compadre! Americans go through hurricanes, tornadoes, Nor'easters, wildfires, earthquakes, landslides and our newscasters are there for all of it. We have yet to have a volcanic eruption or a tsunami but I bet they would be front and center for that too. Although a lot of ppl think the news/press are corrupt, they are still the best messengers of truth and information; ultimately they provide us with safety & justice.

@@jennymaria86 make no mistake, there is corruption in the news, it is not a belief, but a statistical fact with mountains of supporting evidence of it, but atleast when such disasters are occurring, they do generally provide the coverage such situations desperately need

They're usually outside the hurricane area staying in the tropical storm area.... They'll show you the heavy storms, then act like they are there.....
Remember that news reporter standing in the street acting like it was 90 mph winds.... Couldn't stand up , and the man across the street walking down the sidewalk with an umbrella.... 😮

@@luthervaughn1Hurricane Katrina was a Cat 5 that landed at a Cat 3, then weakened just like this one. It left lasting scars throughout the Gulf Coast. This one is likely to do much the same.
The category is only based on the wind speed, while it's good that the wind speed dropped a bit the main danger of major hurricanes is the storm surge. This storm's surge is going to be massive regardless of the category unfortunately

It would be terrible to have lived there for decades and love it. It really seems though that a lot of Florida will soon be uninhabitable. This seems very scary. My prayers and thoughts are for everybody in Florida right now.

I agree for the west coast of florida on the Gulf but the east coast on the Atlantic is much better. I just wished that Tampa was on the Atlantic side instead of the Gulf because it’s a great city. I would say Fort Pierce and Tampa should swap spots. Fort Pierce on the Gulf and Tampa on the Atlantic halfway between both Miami and Orlando and move it’s teams the Rays, Lightning and Buccaneers along with Busch Gardens and Adventure Island out east in St. Lucie County.

These storms didn’t decimate those homes in the path. Decimate would indicate 1 in 10 were lost. They’ll be fortunate if 1 in 10 are left intact. I’m 30 miles from landfall of Helene and everyone took substantial damage. I’ve lived in Florida nearly 60 years and we’ve never had storms like this. 2004 & 2005 were bad but no where close to this.

I've been through many hurricanes here in Florida in the past 35+ years. I live over 100 miles from Miltons landfall. This is one of the worst I have ever experienced. By morning I may have floated out to sea...😂
It is really bad here in Brooksville Florida but still have power it hasn't stop raining lots of trees down and fences for sure this storm will leave much damage behind
