Amazing Fantasy #15 Spider-man is one of the few comic series I recommend people start at the very beginning. Its actually quite impressive how consistent the continuity is, and frankly seeing Peter grow up is the best part about Spider-man imo.
I know this is late like 9 months late, but thank goodness I found this video! All the other videos with suggestions on where to start kept going into details about the stories in the books and I was like WHY ARE YOU RECOMMENDING I GO READ IT IF YOU'RE GONNA SPOIL IT
Honestly wish you guys had turned this into a series. Such a good range of genres and stories. Every character deserves as through of a reading recommendation.
I love all these stories, but I used to have to push myself to read Stracyzinski's run because of the art. Also some of my other favorite Spidey stories are: Marvel Knights Spider-Man, Hobgoblin Saga, Cosmic Spidey, Stan Lee and Gerry Conway's run, and the Harry Osborn Saga(y'know, Spectacular Spider-Man 178-200) Also: Great video Sal! I love your channel and keep up the good work.
Thank you so much for this list. I've always liked Spider-Man but I never read enough of his comics. I loved both Spider-Man Blue and Kravens last hunt, and now i'm on issue 50 of the Straczynski run of Amazing Spider-man and having a great time.
Another great High School Spider-Man book is the short "Spidey" miniseries that recently ended. It was a 12 issue retelling of Spider-Man's Origin, and I loved it. They started it back in 2015 when that whole Secret Wars thing was going on. It's an awesome way to get into that character! The art and writing are also top notch.
Hey, question, can I start there with Spidey and move into Big Time without facing too much confusion? You seem to know what you're talking about, and I'm soooo lost rn >.
@@inkbery4473 if you know the basics of spiderman then sure go ahead. I got into spiderman comics by reading the first 50 issues of the Stan Lee spiderman run after which I read random issues of spectacular spiderman and currently I'm reading the ryan oatley run of amazing spiderman
This is awesome, a lot of spider man stories I wasn't aware of or thought they may not be worth it. You need to keep making more of these it really helps with how I should spend my money.
PMcGJellyP There's parts of BND I like others not so much. Besides it was designed to bring on new readers even if my embarking was a complete accident haha
I actually really loved Brand New Day. Now, it wasn’t all great, the Guggenheim and Kelly stuff never really got good, but Waid and Slott were perfect on the book. I mean, New Ways to Die, 24/7, issue 600, and countless others are classics in my mind.
This video is tremendous help! I'm starting to read comics, and I was looking for the best way to start reading about everyone's favorite friendly neighborhood spider dude
If you can find it, after Kraven's Last Hunt Spectacular Spider-Man from 178-200 is also great run by J. M. Dematteis and if you can read some older stuff Roger Stern's run is also awesome.
Literally just commented a couple of days ago about getting into certain marvel characters. Sal, you have made me feel a little unsettled, but also happy I now have a good idea for Spider-Man stories
If this is how things are going from now on I am disheartened. It's just like everyone else on youtube I don't watch. I loved the homieness already. Part of the reason I gravitated to the show.
My favorite Spider-man story of all time will always be Amazing Spider-man annual 5 entitled "The Parents of Peter Parker". I have a personal connection to that story and I will love and treasure it to my dying day. Also Amazing Fantasy 15 and Ultimate Spider-man and the Stan Lee era as a whole are faves with me. Great video.
My personal deeply rooted favorite Spide-Man arch will always be around late Ditko/Romitas's early stuff till a little after the death of the Stacys. I was reading all of that in high school that was truly a fun year that became the worst year of my life for painful personal reasons as such the Innocence and playfulness of the late 60's stuff into the darkness of the social and political stuff that Lee addressed in the early 70's I really respected the balls Lee and Romitas had dealing with it all on a human level finally culimating with the death of The Staceys towards the end around the same time time as my fun year became one of personal pain and strife really tore me up and effected my current more cynical view on life as I found solace and reflection in my personal loss of Innocence in Spidys fictionalized world crumbling only to be brought back up in later issues. That's why the late 60's early 70's Spider-Man era will always be so vital to me. Kravn's Last Hunt is also damn good especially if you're a cynic like me and want more grit, realism and introspection in your graphic novels that's done in a non pretentious way. And Ultimate Spidy is just damn fun :D Prosit!
I love Superior Spider-man. It's my favorite Super-hero, Spiderman, except he has a morality and way of thinking way more similar to my own. Not to mention having the best Spiderman costume ever IMO. He's my favorite alternate incantation of any super-hero.
Fuck Yeah, Ive been hoping you would do vid like this one day Sal, and I LOVED IT especially the Format!!!!!!!! it was AMAAAAAAZING!!!!!!!!, Also Im In Love with Spider-Man Blue
If you are new to comics or have not read the original Stan Lee/Steve Ditko stuff, I recommend Epic Amazing Spider-man volume 1 & 2. That's all of it and currently, the cheapest way to get it.
Let's see. Start around the time of Secret Wars (the original one). The "identity of Hobgoblin" arch makes for a good jumping on point. Read up until the Clone-saga starts, then skip the rest of that noise. Read JMS run and persevere until the death of Morlun. Then pat yourself on the back and find a character that's still in print. 'Cuz the real Spider-man ain't anymore.
If you have Amazon prime, Ultimate Spider-Man vol 1, Spider-Man blue and Spider-Man renew your vows are all free kindle downloads. You can borrow up to 10 kindle books. So you can also pick up The Parker Luck, Spider-Man Reign, and Ends of the Earth for free. A kindle unlimited or comiXology subscription (or free trial) can also be used to read Ultimate Spider-Man vol 2, 17. Spider-Man coming Home, Spider-Man Big Time, and Superior Spider-Man 1-6.
Hey Sal! Thanks for the recommendations, I just ordered Spiderman: Life Story and can't wait to read. I'm more of a 60s-early 90s ASM reader. I've been collecting over the last 30 years. What are some of your choice story arcs? I've almost fully collected the OG Clone saga, Doc Ock Wins, Death of Captain/ Gwen Stacy and the 6 arms story arc (missing #101 because it's so damned expensive! Lol)
Could you maybe do one for the Flash? I recently started getting into DC comics because of rebirth, and anything involving the Flash has been my favorite so far, and I'd really love reading more.
I really like how you dont just do top 10 (insert hero) stories, but divide it in categories of what poeple may like.
top 10s are for people who don't know what they're talking about.
@BluParadox and what culture and ect
Watchmojo ALREADY DONE THAT YEARS AGO.
agreed
I still use this video to help recommend books to friends who are trying to get into Spider-Man
Ik its been 2 years but can you send me a link to the comics in order
@@MyBitch925 they’re all on Marvel Unlimited

I watched this as a massive fan of Spider-Man wondering if there was anything else to read and now I have 2 stories that I haven't read, thanks Sal
Thanks been trying to get into Spider-Man in a long time and this definitely helps
JMS and JRJR was my favorite creative team, glad you out their run on the list
Amazing Fantasy #15 Spider-man is one of the few comic series I recommend people start at the very beginning. Its actually quite impressive how consistent the continuity is, and frankly seeing Peter grow up is the best part about Spider-man imo.
This is my favorite form of a reading list! You could show this video to anyone anytime!
As a fellow die hard spidey fan myself, this is a great list. Have all these stories and are terrific for getting into the character
Thank you Sal! 😁
If this is part of the #newchanges to ComicPOP, I'm totally onboard and liking this! Keep up the great work guys

I loved blue. Just read it last night.
Yes! It's fantastic to hear from the Spider-Otaku himself on where to start. I started with Brand New Day and boy do I regret it XD
I am so sorry you had to go through Brand New Day. That might be the worst starting off point other than the event immediately prior to that.
PMcGJellyP There's parts of BND I like others not so much. Besides it was designed to bring on new readers even if my embarking was a complete accident haha

Just got Marvel Unlimited so this is perfectly timed! Loving superior Spiderman so far
This was a great idea and I applaud how well you executed it, Sal.
This is quite informative. Thank you for the in depth recommendations!
This was the most helpful video I watched so far. I can't wait to start reading. Thanks!
Sal we need more of these, I love watching this kind of stuff.

I would really love if this becomes a regular segment. Keep up the good work guys y saludos desde Argentina.
I loved when Superior Spider-Man was out and there were books like Kaine's Scarlet Spider and Agent Venom.
Great video!
Can you do more videos like this +ComicPOP ?
We hope to.

Loving the new format! That goes for the overall look of the channel too - big fan of those caricatures!
Sal - excellent job man. I'm always anomored by how spot on you are with your summation of stories. I think you should do this for a living...
If you can find it, after Kraven's Last Hunt Spectacular Spider-Man from 178-200 is also great run by J. M. Dematteis and if you can read some older stuff Roger Stern's run is also awesome.
Dematteis really gets forgotten in these sort of discussions. Very underrated run. Good call.
Please please pleeeease bring these back. They really help when choosing a superhero to read up on and you’re not very accustomed to where to start.
Untold tales of spider man now I know where to start with good spider man stories Thanks Sal 😀👍
Literally just commented a couple of days ago about getting into certain marvel characters. Sal, you have made me feel a little unsettled, but also happy I now have a good idea for Spider-Man stories
OMG Sal thank you so much! I'm putting these all on my list for when I go to Nashville Comic Con and the Memphis Comic Expo!
dang, Sal. Love this style of video! Granted, I'm a chronology nerd and already know most of the Spider-Man timeline, this video was still awesome!
A glimpse at the new office perhaps? Nice green screen, I love the new upgrade to the channel. Great video btw.
This helped so much!!! Thank you Sal and Comic Pop crew!
I love classic 616 but I think Ultimate is an easier jumping on point for Spider-man.
Spider-Man Blue is the best god damn comic I’ve ever read
A goodnight treat from the uk. It is late, watching you the some shut eye. Comic pop, thanks as always for a evening bedtime story. Cheer
The green screen effect is amazing done! Good work!
