Meditation to absorb the energy of the Sun God

Ra (or Re or Phra) was the god embodying the sun at its peak power, and his name means “sun.” Initially, he was called Atum, the creator of Heliopolis, which was the main center of his worship. Although Atum was sometimes considered Ra’s creator, in many narratives, Ra emerged from Nun (the primordial waters) by his own will. It was believed that Ra rose from the primordial waters and emerged from the petals of a lotus flower, which would close each evening as he returned to his birthplace.
“Ra, from the beginning of time,” ruled over the earth and the world he had created. His reign on earth was considered a golden age when humans and gods lived together in harmony. In his youth, Ra was powerful, his reign was steadfast, and divine order and authority, symbolized by Ma’at, prevailed everywhere.
Ra’s daily tasks were unchanging. Each morning, the morning star prepared his meal, and after donning his garments and participating in ceremonial rituals, Ra would depart from the Benben stone in Heliopolis, embarking on his daily journey through the twelve realms of his dominion (the hours of the day). Occasionally, his proximity caused intense heat, leading to the scorching summers and even rebellions among his subjects. Yet, no one could withstand the might of the powerful king.
In one of these rebellions, Apep (Apophis) and other enemies of Ra conspired to destroy him during the sunrise. However, after a day-long battle, Apep and his allies were defeated. In another battle, Ra took the form of a cat or lion to decapitate his enemies.
In this meditation, we aim to imagine the sun’s warmth during winter, allowing its life-giving energy to fill our being and spirit with revitalizing warmth.
