    Howard defeats the Dark Overlord.
    FILM DESCRIPTION:
In this sci-fi comedy from executive producer George Lucas, Howard the Duck is an extra-terrestrial fowl who is accidentally beamed to earth by physicist Dr. Jenning (Jeffrey Jones) and his assistant Phil (Tim Robbins). The two go looking for Howard and find him in the home of Beverly Switzer (Lea Thompson), who was rescued by the interstellar duck from some mean-looking thugs. Beverly and Phil are friends, and when the government finds out about Howard, she helps Phil and Dr. Jenning hide him from the authorities until they can zap him back home. In the meantime, several wild chases and spectacular special effects keep the picture rolling along.

On his middle name, his creators figured if it was good enough for a Canadian playing a womanizing, Iowa cornfield born and raised starship Captain and Admiral we all know and love, it was good enough for a duck with similar qualities minus commanding starships. Howard realizes that he has to make a very tough decision and do what he has to do.
Even when he says "goodbye, duck world", he's not just saying goodbye to his home planet, he's also saying goodbye to his family, his friends and his former life.

      *sigh*
-The creature had telekinesis, therefore telepathy, therefore could be heard as English regardless what language it spoke. Plus it was in Jennings body, speaking through him and got English there.
-The beams are highly destructive, but only necessary for immobilization, due to needing host bodies.
-He's a demon from beyond the planets...Earth tech, including lasers is small potatoes.
      -same for astrophysics
-wasnt his friends nor was it altruism. It was an invasion
-"determined to his task"? Um...why wouldnt he be? You ran out of things to say.
-"weak spot *are* purple lasers" that sentence makes just as much sense as you're pretending this movie does. Do you mean weakness? And do you mean is?
How about you go make a movie so another pillock, such as yourself, can pick it apart.

It has been a long while since I saw this movie. But I do wonder about this, and because it has been years for me since I saw this movie, so I don't know if they have explained it or not.
My question is: Why can't they just rebuilt the machine so that Howard can go home? Did they explained why they are unable to?

It’s the coordinates. The deviation from the original target was a malfunction but it left traceable coordinates.
They were locked in the spectroscope. Without it they don’t know where to send him.
There is a part in the movie when they briefly mention this.
