    Berserkers were real, and may have taken mushrooms to get into that state. They were also rare and considered outcasts. It's like taking the agressive homeless guy to battle, he does some shrooms, gets naked and goes off to fight. I am surprised this hasn't happened already in Florida.

      If not that, take go to poop while you have friends over. Dramatically take off your shirt and throw it out of the loo. Everyone will know it's a life or death kinda poop.

    There is no evidence that the blood eagle was ever performed, it is mentioned in one of the Viking Volsung sagas, that's all.

      Most of these half baked jerkwads who think "viking" is some sort of tribal title instead of just a 'job description' that basically means fjord pirate believe anything that they personally think is 'cool' doesn't need any actual historical evidence.

    Berserker rage isn't considered historically accurate by most deeply read scholars on the subject of the vikings. Berserkers were a class of raiders that held the title (meaning "bear coat") to protect kings, lords, jarls, etc., and likely didnt go into weird drug fueled rage states.

    Did you know that vikings didnt wear horn helmets into battle?

    • @Chubby_turtle
      @Chubby_turtle Год назад +1

      Yup, the only reason why people believe that vikings used horned helmets is because a costume designer (in the 1800s, I believe) designed costumes for a Viking movie and put horns on the helmets. And now today, vikings are known to have worn horned helmets

    • @afterzanzibar
      @afterzanzibar 4 месяца назад

      Technically, there are Norse artifacts that show figures of men wearing helmets with large horns, but the current popular theory is that they were most probably helmets worn for ceremonial use.

    Fun fact Vikings may have not used the blood eagle tactic. It's said that This was only mentioned once by a person who had a biased outlook on Vikings. But I'm still not sure whether they did it or not.

    • @heuhen
      @heuhen 11 месяцев назад

      it's a lot of discussion around that, but what's more likely happen is and I quote: "to leaving one's foes face down on the battlefield, their backs torn as carrion by scavenging birds."
      and if a few vikings after an battle, decide to hang an partially eaten person up... it would look like an blood eagle. Vikings have done weirder stuff

    The blood eagle is mentioned once in a saga. There is no actual evidence for it happening and it's quite unlikely you'll live long enough for someone to put your lungs on your back.

    • @apastperspective
      @apastperspective  Год назад +6

      a saga? You do realise I’m referring to actual Viking’s themselves and not the TV show? It doesn’t take a genius to realise that you’d die almost instantly if blood eagle was performed on you. It was still a wide spread punishment/execution among vikings across Norden to perform the ‘blood eagle’. This is pretty wide spread stuff.

    • @Sozillect
      @Sozillect Год назад +10

      @@apastperspective This proves once more that you have no Idea of what you are talking about. With "saga" he refers to the Volsung Sagas, actual legendary texts from the Viking age. There is absolutely NO ARCHEOLOGICAL EVIDENCE of it being performed, it is just mentioned in one of said sagas

      First no I'm not heavily mixed. I am an American but I am also 85% scandinavian. Most of my ancestors came from norway and sweden with a small amount of german irish and english (saxon). As far as the blood eagle execution, it is not entirely proven there's no evidence. However that being said, only a small Number of vikings did it. As far as taking mushrooms berzerkers were the only ones that did that but Other vikings did do things like smoke angelikarot.

    • @heuhen

      As a Norwegian, I have problem with the "blood eagle", it was written in only two saga's and most likely misunderstood, those Sagas can also be written by the "looser"
      But I quote an text about blood eagle, that I think is the most accurate: "to leaving one's foes face down on the battlefield, their backs torn as carrion by scavenging birds." And the writings about lungs spreading out as wings, might come from scavenging birds, have pulled the lungs out and to the sides, while eating.

    Vikings also had Christians in their ranks. Tons of them. Some viking grave goods involve jewellery with islamic art on it, so we don't know if they actually believed in Islam, or just bought said pieces, or looted set pieces. They were at least aware of Islam having fought muslims.
