i believe its 12. i thought 13 but i accidentally counted the middle one twice. the outside one, the star of david is 2 overlayed plus 6 on edges. one of thoses overlayed in star cuts main triangle into 4 parts but that only gives 3 because we already counted the middle one. 1 + 2 + 6 + 3.
i almost ran out of time on this one. my reasoning: 9 is only odd number so must be in pairs to get even number. so 9 is either x2 or not used. that gives a single 18 to use. to rule out 20: 20 and 18 go over. 20 and some number of 4s is impossible, cuz it gives a multiple of 4. then i tried adding 4s to the 18 and got it.

i understood the intent. by convention a 5 letter word means 5 characters long, not a word made from 5 unique letters. so potatoes is an 8 letter word. it didnt say the letters must be continguous in alphabet. youre supposed to list out the letters missing and identify the word. the spelling is in alphabetical order to make it easier, tho i wasnt expecting as it wasnt stipulated.
