You know what I love... every about it. Currently redoing JOIST... and this popped up. Is it a ramp? NOPE! . WILL I LEARN something from this video?? ABSOLUTELY!! Best
Very nice looking shed by the way now I want to build one for myself. If I may suggest something that would make this shed even better. Put some solar lights on the outside next to the door and put some inside the shed to make it easier to see inside at night. Also, I'd wire in some outlets to allow for charging batteries and battery-operated lawn equipment. Then again I will always use gas-powered lawn equipment.
Kevin, the method you are talking about would be stronger. That board would be a "ledger". I always bevel the top edge of the ledger to match the slope of the ramp to prevent having a gap under the first deck board. I also bevel the first deck board to have a tight fit against the door sill to prevent debris. It only takes another couple of minutes.
@dallasarnold8615 I thought so. I like these tutorials without the edits. Leaving the errors helps me not feel so dumb when inevitably repeat them and directs me to a quicker resolution.
I am east of Edmonton. Last night, I spent 3 hours clearing snow from our driveway with my tractor. This week, two long storage sheds will be delivered. This ramp video is great timing for those projects.
My thoughts exactly. Ive literally just heard him talking about how angled screws threw the edge of a board barely hold anything structurally, literally just in his shed building tutorial, now he’s doing it to structurally hold an entire ramp. Now in his defence he added the 2x4s later that sit on the ground and hold the weight, but still… not the best anchor system to the shed. He definitely wouldn’t fasten a deck to a home foundation that way!
@@wrenchboostboi8994 You missed the whole part where he tells you that the 2x4 provide the structural support. The screws into the shed are just to keep the ramp from moving. A storage shed ramp isn't a deck holding thousands of pounds
I am not even sure how I built my shed ramp but its been working since 2013 and I have not had the need to repair it once. I do need to spray wash it again though.
On my shed i attached the ramp about 4" below the shed floor. I installed a removable wedge to bring the ramp flush to the shed floor. In the winter, i remove this wedge sothe snow won't be laying up against the shed doors and warping and rotting my doors.
For simple longevity, i always drop a line of whatever caulk i have on hand (preferably silicon, but not going to buy a tube for that, i'd take any leftover) on top of a piece of wood where i know water will be trapped between if i don't. I would have added that over your horizontal 2x4s there. It is just crazy how fast wood rot in this circumstance, imo it worth the pennies for a bit of caulking.
I would have attached the top of the stringers to plywood, screwing the ends of them through the plywood. Then you can easily attach all them at once once to the rim by screwing the plywood into the rim.
just curious, sometimes, why not just say from the start that this is the first time you are trying this, so painfully obvious sometimes that you are making it up as you go along.
Whether true or not, he is employing and teaching principles. That's what people that know what they're doing do; they apply skill and knowledge to new situations to solve problems. Why not just keep thoughts like yours to yourself? It's obvious that you're not a skilled or knowledgeable person.
@ i have been a licensed carpenter for 20 years now and i'm not ashamed of admitting if it's the first time i'm trying something new or a new way of doing something. its perfectly fine to admit that and say you are just going to take it one step at a time and figure it out.
I LITERALLY just did this today.. stop watching me Jeff.
I put my edge on stones though to slow down the rot.

Thank you sir. I actually just recently needed this video.

"Pythagoras hates this one weird trick!"
I can't wait to get a set of build plans there Jeff 🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉
coming coon.
Appreciate your explanation and showing how to
Glad it was helpful!
Will be doing this in the Spring!
Love the full end to end on this shed build. Most useful shed series out there. Thank you!
Glad you like it!
As always, another great and useful video !!
Need to do a ra
Mp for my senior dog, thank you
You have the best videos 👍
thanks as always for sharing the knowledge! you are the man
Out of curiosity, why not just screw the back end of the ramp to another 2x8 board and screw that straight to the shed base?
The first deck board would have a gap at the seam into the shed that way. Minor reason but still a reason.
@@isaiahmoger3225 Not unless you are an idiot about it. I have been doing it that way for most of my 70 years.

Hey there! Lucky me, I'm in Calgary, Alberta, and we’re actually having a storm right now! 😂

“This piece here!”
(Points to a piece he’s sitting in front of and the camera can’t see).
Do you have anything regarding stair renovation? I need to get rid of the carpet on my stairs and I'm loving your style of guidance.
" we could use a chalk line" (immediate nope and 3 seconds later), "man thats really crooked"
Yes!!! I understand the vertical!!!
The way you found slope .... yeah... I'm not a carpenter but If I was I want to be you😂😂😂
Is it accurate or inaccurate? I tried this on a deck ramp-to-driveway and really struggled but couldn’t tell any.
Jeff, nice job, what happen with termites in a future..
Screw your 3 "ramp" parts to a back board and then screw the board to the shed...
Way sexier and sturdier then drilling at an angle...

@@nyetlokiwhat you spouting off about? I said that exactly
Metal harbor freight loading ramps. Bolt two pair together, side holes already exist.
Should have used nails for the wood on the bottom. Much higher shear strength than a screw.
What do you do to prevent termites? If I lay it board on the ground in Florida, it’s gone in 3 weeks. Even teak!
At this point why not just use joist hangers?
Had the same thought but I’m no carpenter lol
Could have screwed a board to the ends at top and screwed that to the shed. Angled ends touching the dirt will rot pretty quick
They aren't. The 2x4 are

You can spray wash it next year

Camera should have been showing what you were marking. All I could see was your knee.
Thanks bud, going to put this on my laptop and give it a go in the spring since mines fucked

Jump to 11:00 to see Jeff demonstrate what he thinks six inches is heeheehee
Definition of “man-splaning” here.
Didn’t have any takeaways after being 11 minutes in..
Jeff...HELP 30 year old Mobile Home, Need flooring. LVP, Carpet, what?
The first cut wasn't great
This is the most boneheaded ramp process ive ever seen.
really then this isnt for you then
Why cut the 45 in the beginning?? Rhetorical, don't waste time explaining, I won't understand. Just 👍 if you feel my pain

You should not be that winded from such little activity. Get your heart and associated pathways checked out!!
They probably built the whole shed in a day and broke it up into several videos dude...
Lmao you outta see me after using the toilet .. sound like I just ran a marathon. Lmaooo
