    Well said, Rob. I am 62 years old, very happily married for 38 years with 3 grown children… and I still collect and race slot cars (a hobby I started with my dad in 1968). Similarly, watches are a joy, whatever that may be for each individual. Like you, I like them bold, 40mm and larger. My favourite summer watch is my Seiko Monster Tuna. 😀

    Thanks for the excellent video. I like that you said we should enjoy life more than worry about what's "appropriate," and my wife who watched the video agrees with you. The more I think about it, I was scrambling notions of ostentation, austerity, and abundance with the desire to focus on my two favorite watches to wear: my SPB143 and my Willard. But I can "cure" that by storing away all my watches but one and wearing that watch every day for a week and cycling through my collection that way.

As he is a critical thinking Professor he always evaluates his collection on a daily basis. I think he has fallen for the 143 so much that it may be influencing his current thoughts. Rob,
    I am very glad you posted this video...but...
    I watched Jeffreys' video and i agree with him. I find it really sad seeing an older guy trying way too hard to look like a younger guy. The big flashy watch, that says, "hey look at me !!" is just not for me.
    I have many G-Shocks and the Victorinox INOX diver which are all large watches. I am starting to feel that a smaller, more age appropriate watch is what i probably should be wearing. So for a while now i have been saving for my old man watch, something along the design cues of a traditional Grand Seiko or perhaps along the lines of an Omega Constellation. I will keep one G-Shock, probably the 5610, due to the traditional shape and size, for a beater and will sell the others.
    I don't want to come off as a downer, but this is how i feel. I love your channel, and i love all the watches you share with us. I love watches !! That does not mean i can pull off wearing them.
    So please keep doing what you are doing, I'll keep watching, and if our paths ever cross we can check out each others watches, it would be cool .

    Agree. When I started my watch collecting journey I was leaning towards the more conservative side. As my watch collection grew, I realized I wanted my watch collection to be different from others so I started picking up watches that have nontraditional colors. Some hate it while others love it, but I like how wearing them feels like wearing a nicely tailored suit.

  • @alexandruc.5647
    @alexandruc.5647 2 года назад

    Straight to the point. When we say "maybe I have to do x, y,z", that's it, you are no longer talking about something that you actually love, because of the obligation in that statement above.
    If you really love/like something, you don't need to do anything about it, just enjoy it, because changes that you think you should make, are probably coming from outside of you, they are not part of you.
    What I mean is, if you like certain watches, you don't need to be ashamed of it, you don't need to adjust your preferrences just because of your age, or what your friends are telling you to do. We have one life on this Earth and we should live it the way we see it fit, with good and bad, that's it.

    Watches are jewelry- a reflection on your style and individual taste. I love orange dialed watches, there is no way I am giving the orange watches in my collection for more "age appropriate pieces" that would just make me miss the Samurai or Superocean. Now there is something to be said about sizes as I think that most guys always go after the larger sizes offered instead of something that would ultimately fit their wrist size.

    dooood .. that sprinkly box opener ...must tell us where you got that ...now lol . I was just thinking about this "age" thing. I feel like us "older guys" who like big bold watches just need to have some conservative dress watches in our collection. Even if it's just one "mature" watch. That's all we need. As long as we know when to wear the fun watches that's all that matters. Don't wear a dress watch to a summer outdoor BBQ unless you know it isn't going to get wet or greasy or anything. And don't wear your orange monster seiko when you are asked to take Queen Elizabeth II to the opera ( kidding, but you get the point)
