I'm a bass player inside a lifetime guitar player who never played bass before. I can't get used to the 34" scale on my TMB-100 Ibanez "starter" bass ($200 new). The U5 looks like what I need, a more manageable sized, and better balance too. The TMB-100 is neck heavy and awkward to play balanced on my leg without a strap holding it in place. That U5 model is beautiful too, especially with the natural maple top!
