@@joemiller7082 Totally agree! I've managed to attend the show of them in Madrid in 1999 and it was, by far, the best metal band and metal frontman I've ever seen -and I've seen Motörhead several times, even Dissection with Jon Nodtveidt (another great musician who left us), Pantera, etc-... but Chuck was something else, mate. Greetings from Spain!
Great reaction moosh but they're death metal band no black and by the way death it's considered one of the pioneers of death metal if is not the first one imo.
Hi there, i just wanted to say that you should check the meaning of the songs before or after listening to them, chuck was as much of a philosopher as he was a musician, the "voice of the soul" song is, if i'm not mistaken, made as a tribute for his brother since he tragically died when chuck was still young, another song that also has that behind his reasons to write the song is "Open casket" in which he tells the story of how it was to see his brother deceased, and how the harsh reality of doubs about life and death is something which we are not prepared yet to answer and possibly never will be. Anyways i loved the reaction and if i we're able to pick a song or two for you to listen next i'd choose between this 10: 1. Open Casket 2. Symbolic 3. Zombie ritual (Old era in which the lyrics we're vulgar and didn't express how chuck felt about the world and the problems within it.) 4. Pull the Plug 5. Crystal Mountain 6. Overactive imagination 7. Trapped in a corner 8. Evil Dead 9. A moment of Clarity 10. Story to tell Bonus: Empty Words Keep in mind that chuck wanted to never write the same album twice, so all of his albums are very diverse, and by the way, the only reason i didn't choose any songs from "spiritual healing" (album) is because i think it's one of their harder albums to get into, and the other albums are more beginner friendly and less niche, although i'd say it's my 3rd favorite album probably.
Since no one mentioned it: Chuck played a BC Rich Guitar, he actually played a couple of their models over the years, but he is mostly known for playing the BC Rich Stealth.
Context: Lack of Comprehension was off of an album that was much more traditional death-metal sounding than the one Voice of the Soul was on. But what's funny is, pretty much EVERY song off of The Sound of Perseverance is considered progressive/melodic death metal except for Voice, which was their first and only power ballad of sorts :P More good ones like the first are Flattening of Emotions, Zombie Ritual, Suicide Machine and Pull the Plug, good ones in at least the _era_ of the second are Symbolic, Scavenger of Human Sorrow, Without Judgement and Spirit Crusher.
"Is this their emo song?" hah....good reaction tho! you just didn't get the goods you wanted at the end. I get it. The song "Symbolic" was what you were lookin for.I love their instrumental breaks...just amazing! Top notch musicians of their heyday and beyond!!
Hi Moosh 🎸 ! What's going on with the second song a melodic instrumental ? 🤔. Always feel for the vocalists in these bands who have to invest so much into their " singing " Definitely a special technique used to avoid damaging the vocal chords. Cannibal Corpse & Deicide my two favourite bands in this genre. Gets me in the holiday spirit 🎅 ! ✌️
Death is such a great band. If you wanna get into more heavy stuff, the songs Bleak-Opeth,Dreaming in Red- Dismember and The Satanist by Behemoth are some of my favs
RIP CHUCK SCHULDINER (FOUNDING VOCALIST & GUITARIST OF DEATH), may the Voice Of Your Soul echoe in heaven. So sad he passed away on this day before 23 years. I‘m 20 but still his craft has an huge impact on me. Sidefact: Most of the Deathmetal Bands as well as them share the same origin, for example: Morbid Angel, Deicide etc. are from Tampa Florida… 👀
This album, Human, was groundbreaking, hard to hear it in context now but other than Testament and Death Angel doing more progressive, technical Thrash, Death Metal had not reached this level of musicianship and songwriting; Rolling Stone ranked this #70 in best metal albums, which is important because thrash and death metal had been largely ignored by most major music publications. This is the best lineup of Death imo w/Paul Masvidal on guitar, Steve DiGiorgio on fretless bass (unheard of in metal) and Sean Reinert on drums, all virtuoso players so good they levelled-up Chuck's guitar playing and songwriting skills. Paul and Sean went on to create the progressive death metal band Cynic, Sean Reinert passed away in 2020 sadly, one of the best metal drummers of his era.
If you haven't heard/seen Gwar, I highly recommend listening and reacting to them. Tormentor, Bring Back the Bomb, Let Us Slay, or any of their other most listened tracks (must watch at least one music video for the epic visual experience).
Great reaction! If you like thrashy/death metal, check out the band Kreator. Thrashers know what I'm talking about. Start with their album Pleasure to Kill
You should listen to Suicide machine, The philosopher, Spiritual healing, Pull the plug and Symbolic. After that, you will have a new favourite band :)
Death never gets the respect they deserve. One of the best bands of that era, one of the godfathers of that style of music, and they get no appreciation. Very rare to see someone react to Death. Chuck was an amazing guitar player and songwriter.
I like you girl..stay heavy.. salut from Greece 🇬🇷 By the way death is death metal band and not black. I think the name of the band say it all 😅💪🙂🤘🤘⚘️⚘️⚘️
No Sean Reinert, no technical death metal, metalcore, deathcore, or anything. He flipped the whole genre with this album and every drummer was like, wtf is he doing here? lol!
Great reaction! Death it's a pretty cool band to listen 😊, If you like heavy/thrashy/power/epic metal I recommend to you Soldier Stands Solitarily by Lovebites, one of the best bands of the scene right now 😉
If you wanted to know them as real death metal pioneers you need to listen to anything of their first 3 albums: "Scream Bloody Gore", "Leprosy" and "Spiritual Healing"... then they started to become more progressive and technical with "Human" (yep, lack of comprehension is from this album), "Individual Thought Patterns" and "Symbolic"... Highly recommended those 3 too. But the last album "The Sound of Perseverance" No, I don't recommend it for a first contact with the band. Despite being excellent... I think it no longer represents what the band really meant for death metal. And yes... that instrumental was from their last album.
Death (the band) is the foundation of the death metal genre... Chuck Schuldiner (vocals/ guitar) was the erratic genius behind Death... His vocal style defined the 'death metal growl'... Sadly, he passed away in 2001 from brain cancer at age 34. Chuck Schuldiner was a teenager in Florida when he joined the band Mantas in 1983 w/ Kam Lee (drums/ vocals) w/ Schuldiner on lead guitar and recorded demos... They changed the name to Death around 1985 and released the demo 'Infernal Death'... In 1987, Chuck Schuldiner had sacked Kam Lee and recorded the groundbreaking debut album 'Scream bloody gore' w/ Chris Reifert (Schuldiner did the vocals... played guitars and bass) followed by 'Leprosy' in 1988... 'Spiritual Healing' in 1990. However, Chuck Schuldiner's erratic behavior would result in numerous line-up upheavals... In 1991, he fired all 3 members of Death after they did a tour without him. When death metal became popular in the 90's, Chuck Schuldiner refused to stay in that genre and made more progressive and melodic Death albums... In 1999, he completed the only album "The fragile art of existence" by his prog metal band Control Denied (After he completed a 1998 tour w/ Death for their final album 'The sound of perseverance' ) when he was diagnosed w/ brain cancer. Chuck Schuldiner refused to give in and sought cancer treatments before his life ended in 2001. His former Death bandmates often tour w/ a session guitarist/ vocalist to play Death songs live in concert... Death to All, is one of those tribute projcts.
Voice of the Soul gets listens from people recommending Death to non-death metal fans: "trust me bro, it's from a death metal band, but you'll actually like it!"
Well, the soul of Death was one guy Chuck Schuldiner so I am always slightly triggered when I hear "they" as other members changed a lot, but Chuck was the core and with his death the Death was gone. Also Death is not black metal band. Death is one of the creators of death metal genre.
Spiritual Healing and Leprosy my fave albums of them...but they are far from BLACK metal they are DEATH metal...way too clean, technical and produced for Black which is primitive sounding.
my apologies for saying “black metal” instead of “death metal” my brain thought i was saying “death”. thanks for watching!🖤
One of the best bands that has ever existed. Lyrics, music, it’s all beautiful.
23 years ago today, Chuck died. Rest in Power, Mr Schuldiner 🤘🏻

The drummer Sean Reinhardt ( RIP 🙏 ) Did this entire album in 1 take, he was 18 or 19 yrs old also
Death has like the greatest run of drummers ever going from Sean Reinert to Gene Hoglan to Richard Christy
their Symbolic & The sound of perseverance Albums are so good 🔥 love playing their riffs when playing
Important note: They are the founders of death metal!
@@Omnatten9 thank you & thanks for watching!🖤
Them or Morbid Angel ...the jury is still out...maybe it happened simultaneously!! Who cares...I love them both
Indirectly it‘s also Venom/ Possessed. At least they had a huge influence on the early Death classics.🦝
there not the founders
@WaschiTV also Master
Death is the definition of death metal.Way,way, way before their time.Makes me feel lucky to be an old man.
Death will forever be in the Olympus of metal
"1,000 Eyes" by Death is an amazing song with a lot of different crazy riffs with some sick transitions, and the lyrics were prophetic.
