I just got mine two weeks ago! This bike is incredible. I get So many compliments when I'm out riding. People can't believe the price when I tell them. Also these bikes are long. Go test ride different sizes. I went down in size and it's still longer than my other bike.
Just picked one up. The unique geo and insane value made it stand out against more popular choices. Aggressive and strong enough to work as a budget race and bike park machine while being more playful than more popular options. Initial impressions are very good. The S2 fits me like a glove (5'5") and the short chainstays are noticeable. Given how long and low it is, that front wheel comes up easily. Seated climbing seems fine, no worse than the lower stumpys I've ridden and the climb switch fixes all of that anyways. It is also beautiful in person and actually rare/unique...which appeals to me. Overall, the Status sits in this weird place where the Stumpy and especially the Stumpy EVO are more versatile bikes that are better for most people. Plus they can be had for cheaper. Meanwhile, competitive racers will take the Enduro or even a Stumpy EVO. The Status offers more capability than the average Stumpy, more value than the EVO and more fun than the Enduro...a mix that only really appeals to a certain kind of rider.
@@prawnis The biggest one is the reach (horizontal distance between bars and bb). The S2 is at 437mm and the S3 is at 462mm. Anything over 440mm starts to feel long and stretched out to me so I couldn't ride an S3. The increase in reach also results in an increase in wheelbase and a slightly higher stack (bar height basically). So the Status basically gets a longer and longer front end as it grows...which can get pretty weird in the largest sizes. 500mm reach, crazy long wheelbase but extremely short 426mm chainstays...not sure how that would ride.
Your bike really inspired me to make some changes on my bike. I’m now running full 27.5 with a 180mm Yari fork, single speed and 50mm riser bars with the stem at the lowest position. Makes my s4 feel more like a s3, but with the longer wheelbase. Can’t wait to see how it is at the park after winter! Also dropped the weight down to 34lbs from 39lbs
I have been loking for a new bike for quite a while now and I've decided to go with the Status. Such a great bike! Thanks for the review, it really helped me out! Nice videos too, you got a new subscriber! Cheers!
Cheers for the review brother! You just helped me make the decision to buy one! If a bike isn't playful and fun, what's the point? Legend! Keep up the videos!
Great review all your points where my views exactly. I upgraded to a Magic Mary super tacky with super gravity casing on the front and replaced the shock with a X2, super happy with it now.
Thanks, glad we agree on the bike. That sounds awesome. I'm getting a Marzocchi CR coil to try on mine and tires are Assegai/DHF 2.5's (EXO+ to save some weight over DD but still be a lot stronger than the EXO casing) front and rear.
I got my status 2 weeks ago! I love it! I agree that the bike needs to be in high position. Otherwise the BB is to low and the bike is even more slack. Anyone wanting to get the status should definitely go test ride different sizes. I went down in size. The bike is super long. You only need to carry one tube. I ride tubeless but I carry a 24in tube for emergencies. Tubes can stretch much much bigger then 29in wheels. So no need to carry different tube sizes for each wheel
Glad you like the bike. About sizing it depends on what you want to do with it I think. I went with my normal reach number (480-490mm) since I'm using it for all types of downhill-oriented riding, but if you want to through it around more you could for sure downsize. About the tubes that is true, although it's sometimes a pain to get smaller tubes on in my experience.
Thanks for the comprehensive ride review Mike! There's about 3 of these floating around my area underneath young pinners and I'm in the market for an enduro. Thinking about this as an option. I was thinking I hold your pro's list pretty high on my list of important attributes... The only thing stopping it being the perfect package for me is the pedalling.. I like to beat strava climb times on the way up and be a train wreck when I get there - and then try and beat strava times on the way down about 50% of the time. Too competitive.. Short list at the moment is pretty broad: New Capra Status Norco sight Meta. The only solution is having like 7 bikes... So far we're at 3... The enduro will be 4.... Thanks again mate, good video!
First ride on mine and the front kept washing out on the berms. Really have to shift the weight forward. Agree on the tyres, they are heavy and suck. I did a lot of peddling and it's not that bad, will need bigger quads. The jumping is by far the best. makes it awesome.
Try the high setting (steepens the front a bit) and maybe lower the bars a bit? Also you can play with the suspension to get better traction and a different ride height.
Good tips on bike set up. For technique you need to make sure you do zero front wheel braking and minimal rear braking. Focus on keeping your chin over the stem and your knees in front of the bottom bracket from the start of the turn through the apex.
@@Nickporter17 good tips right there. Coming from MX myself it's weird how little info there is in MTB about putting weight on the front. This is something that is vital in motocross cornering.
I have the Status ST 140mm S2. Its a super fun bike. After watching your video I'll definitely give the high setting a try. I found it is in fact a bit low in some circumstances. I think the wheel set up works well for me as I'm not a tall guy (1.73m). Having that extra clearance at the back helps a lot on those 'oh sh*t!' moments plus give you additional space for playing with the bike. I'm keen on checking the upgrades you made to the bike. I am definitely want to get rid of the SX cassette. It weights a ton!
I'll update with a bikecheck/upgrade videos soon. I've also weighted all the parts that I removed/added so you can clearly see real world weight difference.

awesome video man ! i really look forward to getting this bike in the EU market haha also what do you think about a 27,5 in the front ? it will steepen the HA but if you run on low mode would it compensate ?
It's on the EU market. I'm from Sweden and got the bike from UK. I've seen them in Germany, Sweden, Uk etc. I would not go with a 27.5 in the front without other modification, the BB would be to low. If you went up 20 mm or so in fork suspension travel it might not upset the geometry to much but without looking into it I can't recommend it.

Like I said in the video, to me it's not the best pedaling platform but it's not terrible either, I would say it's pretty much what you would expect for a heavy, slack head angle bike if that makes sense. The steeper seat tube angle helps a bit though.
Any thoughts on sizing for my 178 cm (5,10 i guess!?) I have a bmx Background and today i ride a Stanton Switchback. Thinking about the S3 or S4 but cant wrap my head around it..

I have not ridden that bike so I can't compare ride impressions but on paper they are very different bikes. The Status has a much longer front, Reach is longer, headtube slacker etc. The backend and seat tube on the Status is shorter.
It depends on what you're used to. To me the Status (160) was not a great pedaling platform but not terrible either. To ride around with the kids it will be fine.
I've only tested the DHF/Assegai combo so in EXO+ casing. Tires depend so much on personal preference and local riding condition/riding style. My favorite combo in general are DHR II in the rear and Assegai in the front. Casing depends on what you need, I usually go for EXO+, a lot stronger than EXO but still not super heavy. If you need more protection you can always go for the DD option.
Anyone have any information when it will be released into the UK market cant find any online and my local specialized dealer doesn't know anything about the bike
Hi Ryan, I bought mine from the UK so it's available there. Check #statusmtb on Instagram to find where it's available. It's not available directly through Specialized dealers right now except some "concept stores".
I'm 1.89 and riding a S4. coming from BMX I like a more playful bike and to me any longer reach would be to much, for what I'm doing with this bike, even though I could be on an S5 according to the geometry charts. Sizing depends so much on personal preference and what terrain you're riding :) but if you're like the typical BMX rider I would at least not size up.
Stack and reach are different (which effects the front center, wheelbase, effective top tube etc.) Check the table with all the geometry information in the video here: ruclips.net/video/sdyV7npQppA/видео.html
I just use this bike as a fun downhill playbike so I converted it to single speed. It saves weight, looks clean, declutter the rider cockpit. makes it super quiet and simple to work on.
Because it's not on their site yet. Don't ask me why but it's some kind of marketing-thing. There's almost nothing on the bike that says "Specialized" on it either (there's a small "S" on the headtube and there's a small text-logo on the stem.)

Can't remember but not that long. How you followed the procedure with super hard braking to bed the pads to the rotor?
@@42creativestudio51 yes I followed the procedure but after I followed the sram video I think I might have braked a bit too quick and glazed them
what tyres would you advise?
I've only tested the DHF/Assegai combo so in EXO+ casing. Tires depend so much on personal preference and local riding condition/riding style. My favorite combo in general are DHR II in the rear and Assegai in the front. Casing depends on what you need, I usually go for EXO+, a lot stronger than EXO but still not super heavy. If you need more protection you can always go for the DD option.
Hi , I'm french and I don't find this bike in my country 😭😭😭
Keep looking, they are out there.
Can the back wheel turn backwards?
I want to know how heavy the bike is
any problem is we use 170mm front fork? i have already a 170mm fox factory 36
Can't say for sure but I thing you can get away with it. You probably wanna use the low setting and your headtube will be even slacker.
Hi Mike, How high are you. I am a BMX rider for 12 years and just order status 160. I just wondering if I should choose S4 or S3. What do you think?
I'm 1.89 and riding a S4. coming from BMX I like a more playful bike and to me any longer reach would be to much, for what I'm doing with this bike, even though I could be on an S5 according to the geometry charts. Sizing depends so much on personal preference and what terrain you're riding :) but if you're like the typical BMX rider I would at least not size up.
how much trave on front and back
160mm
These bike is good to climb?
whats the diffrance between s2, s4 and s5 sizes?
Stack and reach are different (which effects the front center, wheelbase, effective top tube etc.) Check the table with all the geometry information in the video here: ruclips.net/video/sdyV7npQppA/видео.html
Someone know where to buy one? I can’t find it on the web sites
They are not posted on most websites (I've seen a few exceptions). Your best bet is to try to find one at a dealer.
Was I the only one to not see he was holding the cat till the very end of the video??
Where/how can you buy this bike?
You just have to look around, they're not easy to find. I've seen them in some Specialized concept stores I've been to if that helps.
@@42creativestudio51 Thank you!

What’s brakes on the bike pls?
Sram Code R
How do you get one?
Contact Specialized dealers and ask if they have one or can get a hold of one is probably your best bet.
Why do you have it single gear
I just use this bike as a fun downhill playbike so I converted it to single speed. It saves weight, looks clean, declutter the rider cockpit. makes it super quiet and simple to work on.
I'm looking at their site and I don't see this bike at all
Because it's not on their site yet. Don't ask me why but it's some kind of marketing-thing. There's almost nothing on the bike that says "Specialized" on it either (there's a small "S" on the headtube and there's a small text-logo on the stem.)
@@42creativestudio51 will it eventually be on there website?
@@senderbud6323 I don't know that, sorry. I would assume it will be.
This looks like Polygon T7
