  • Twenty-seven years ago over 800 Austinites showed up at City Hall to protest a proposed 4,000 acre "Barton Creek PUD" development. The City Council heard public testimony all through the night, and voted as the sun rose the next day to deny the project. That night sparked the "Save Our Springs" movement, and led directly to the Save Our Springs Ordinance (SOS) which became law by citizen initiative. This ordinance limits development in the Barton Springs Zone, which includes Barton Creek and the other creeks draining to, or crossing, the Edwards Aquifer recharge zone.
This is the 1992 music video of the song written by Bill Oliver and sung by many of Austin' legendary musicians, artists, and activists in a musical tribute to the historic Save Our Springs Ordinance and to Barton Springs, the Soul of our City.
Musicians: Bill Oliver, Bob Livingston, Jerry Jeff Walker, Marcia Ball, Jimmie Dale Gilmore, Butch Hancock, Ponty Bone, Paul Pearcy, Steven Fromholz, Joe Ely, John Inmon, David Halley, Sarah Elizabeth Campbell, Doug Powell, Bobby Bridger, Tomas RamirezRikey Osbourn, Mitch Watkins
