Welcome everybody to a new video, my name is Joe and today I will be presenting a video on 3 times the guards broke their character for children. While guards, like anyone else, are human and may have personal moments or reactions, they are generally expected to maintain a serious and composed demeanour while on duty. Breaking character in a theatrical sense is not applicable to their professional responsibilities. Discretion, discipline, and loyalty to the monarch or institution they serve are paramount in their roles. However, there are times the kings guard have broken character to please the children who have come to visit them. Before we start the video, here is a quick fun fact. The bearskin hats, made from the fur of Canadian black bears, have been a part of the Queen's Guard uniform since the early 19th century. This video was recorded on the 9th of March 2018 whereby a four-year-old had gone viral over the internet for dressing up as his heroes, the kings’ guards. On his birthday him and his mum decided to visit the Windsor castle in his uniform to show his appreciation for the guards. You see the two standing near a building, the camera then pans to the group of king’s guard who are marching towards that building. They brush past the mom and son and walk into the building. A few moments later one the guards walk out and asks the boy to come towards him, the boy does as he says and they take a fantastic photo together, the boy is in the frame saluting the guard. It is by far my favourite video ever.

I think you will also love this next video that was recorded on the 8th of June 2023. A horse guardsman is standing to attention by The Horse Guard Parade. A father and son walk up to the guard to take a photo, the son in this video has special needs and wanted to touch the guard, the father aids him to the side of the guard and tells him not to touch. The guard then senses the boy loves the guards so decides to break character and stand closer, by leaning in to the family. The father then thanks the guard for what he did. Fantastic video.

This last video was recorded on the 11th of November 2016. A kings guard his guarding his post, then his sister and mother come to visit him, the sister goes in for a hug and they hold each other’s hands with a firm grip, you can tell how much this means to the guard by looking at his face.
