It kind of says something when a servant is SO overpowered, they have to change the mechanics of how the game works so that you can't just run double Merlin with a berserker servant and just flat out one shot most bosses. They had to make the game harder to "nerf" Merlin, and even then, Merlin is STILL considered one of the most overpowered servants in the game!
I’ve NEVER tried for Merlin in the 6 years I’ve played. Yesterday, I finally decided to throw 10 tickets at his banner. No Merlin, but I DID somehow manage to pull Bedivere of all people ! 😂 which to me seems even more rare than getting Merlin ! So now my Bedi is NP2 ✌🏻 I think I’d rather have Proto Merlin though given how much of an Arts Master I tend to be.
Merlin is definitely still a valuable guy to have. The latest challenge quests were much easier with having him around. Lot of stability. Once a year my weekly ticket usage seems to lead to a miraculous result. And this time it went to Merlin. Snagged him with a ticket and the long wait to get him is over! Definitely happy with this result!
For CQs he still is, the problem is that he is pratically unusable for Raids/1T now. He was powercrept when skadi came out, but oberon made him unusable since he miss skills when paired with him. 1 CQ a month isn't a worth role. If he was still good for CQs/raids you would use him a ton in raid events and able to daily farm Ordeal call.
Just started FGO this year in Feb and got Merlin in 50 pulls. Also got Oberon and Arjuna Alter in like 120 pulls between the both of them, so this has to be the luckiest I’ve ever been in a gatcha game ever. 😅

The pity is still pretty terrible at 330 pulls (though technically 30 are "free"). The fact that pity doesn't carry over also is a bit grating. So while I hate that I didn't join at the start since I've missed out on a BUNCH, I know I'd probably would have raged at the lack of pity and quit before it was implemented.

Got him just yesterday. For his banner I prepared to only roll two ten rolls and not bother with it. Mainly because I wanted to save quartz for the summer anversery event. Yet who knew I got him right on the second 10 roll. Well that's one less thing to worry about. Finally got Merlin after all of these years.
Got him with 240 SQ and 37 tickets. And in addition, got Vlad Zerker along with other useful male servants I did not have or needed extra copies of like NP2 Cu Caster and Asclepius.
Pulled Merlin after 180sq and 20 tickets, and got spooked by Nemo and Edison along the way. Glad to finally have him on my team alongside my Tamamo to help out my arts units. Now I only need Castoria
Merlin broke my ankles already 127 pulls and I got Nemo instead of Merlin I saw that rainbow glow and get so excited until I saw the rider class pop up 😭
Merlin is the reason why I never considered Skadi a good support. Back during the so-called "Quick Meta" my Merlin teams vastly outperformed my Skadi teams. Even today it feels like Kama is dragging Skadi's dead weight body across the finish line while Merlin finishes strong with his teams.
Not really. Skadi was way better for raids and 3T farming. Also good for CQs, the only place merlin does something since oberon killed him for raids(buff succ down)

Merlin loves me. I got him on his first banner after only a few multis. And he has now shown up twice on my GSSR pulls. I throw a couple tickets his way whenever he gets a banner, but I'm more than happy with NP3.
300 sq and 12 tickets and the results are... an Asvatthaman, a Yagyu and then I tried doing one single roll on the Godjuna banner to see if I could get him and got Saito. I am very salty.
Eternity Mirror from the Guda event later this year is helpful since it gives him sealing immunity for 2 turns and skill/NP sealing hurt the most in his teams. As for now, any utility CCs like the ones that remove enemy ATK/DEF buffs can be helpful or you can give him the ones that gen stars if you feel you're not genning enough.
I've been using the DD for Merlin...and I got a Lobo. I'm saving my SQ rolls for Morgan in a couple of weeks. Also, I agree that Proto isn't quite as good a Merlin. Still, I'll be rolling her instead when the time comes - I play this game for the waifus.

It's still insane It's been 7 years and Merlin is still meta. Saber and Gilgamesh constantly get buffed, and Merlin has not gotten one, and doesn't even need it. I love gaining 15% np every turn because Merlin is a fair and balanced servant

Well, Pokemon sisters are right around the corner, also Lady Avalon will have the cutest cinnamon roll in all of Chaldea on her banner, so that's a nope for me.

Just got Merlin in 200SQ and 20 summoning tickets. I have 211SQ and 30 summoning tickets. Do y’all think I have a chance at Morgan if I get up to 400SQ and 40 summoning tickets by the time I get to her banner??
You should be able to get her with that many summons. However, last time I summoned on her banner she didn't show at all after 450 SQ and 20 summons. All you need is average luck to get her.
Just wait, he is only usable for CQs, something you only do once a month most of the year (and you can skip the challenge with revive + sup list) Proto Merlin can also be used in 3T farming since she buffs arts and has charge skills and somewhat at raids/1T nodes in ordeal call(but since she buffs arts she won't be as good for that) (Merlin miss skills when paired with oberon so he lost his main role of raid farming).
He's 100% worth having with the CQs coming up, Recollection Quests, Bleached Earth CQs next year, etc. We are getting more and more difficult content and he is excellent in most of them.
Merlin is absolutely NOT worth depleting your quartz. It's asinine to think otherwise. Source: year 1 player and he's the only "main" support I don't have and there's literally 0 content that I've ever thought "ah shit, if only I had my own Merlin I'd be able to do this!" 1 support Merlin is enough 100% of the time.

I use Miyu's NP as a substitute for Merlin. She does the job very well, but her skills aren't great😂

You would use Avalon if your DPS is an Arts servant
