A major accident was averted at the Mumbai airport Saturday evening when an IndiGo aircraft landed just behind an Air India plane that was taking off from the same runway, a narrow escape for hundreds of passengers. Aviation regulator Directorate of Civil Aviation (DGCA) has initiated a probe and de-rostered the Air Traffic Controller (ATCO) involved in the incident.

Not the pilot but air traffic controllers. Pilots wont put their life in jeopardize unless he/she want to commit suicide.
It looks like a ATC mess up. Pilots don't communicate with each other to coordinate takeoffs and landing. Pilots seem to have done a fantastic job averting this disaster.
Only if the ATC gave conditional landing advise (where they inform the landing plane about another plane taking off) it becomes indigo’s liability to keep safe distance.
All passengers travelling in both flight like Reborn and should thankful to God given another life.
Despite being a Close call, the talent of both pilots need to appreciated which is apparent in a simultaneous landing and Take off.
It's clear the landing pilot avoided touchdown until the previous aircraft was airborne, then lowered his craft the last thirty meters a little 'hastily'.. else, he would have pushed hard up and move away on the side as recommended. 99/100! .. 1% for the critics!
No other agencies except NTA is to be conducted post for air traffic operator in aviation.
About 15 yrs back, I was waiting at Mumbai airport to board a flight. For about 20 minutes, I watched,after every two & half minutes, one flight was landing & another was taking off in the same runway. As my boarding time signal came on, I had to leave that place.
Looks like the ATC was playing Unmatched Air Traffic Control !!!

ATC controller loses his job for sure, I'd be very uncertain if the captain of the landing craft will keep his either. His responsibility is the safety of his passengers he could have called go-around and it would have been on the controller for his inattentiveness.
