Also, when you water, really take your time and let the water soak in. That will encourage the roots to grow deep. A quick spritz isn’t as much as you might think. And surface watering encourages shallow roots, which just dry out faster in droughts. Hope this isn’t too many comments. 😅

    • @christine1373
      @christine1373 3 месяца назад +4

Absolutely! You also won’t need to water them as much once the roots are established.

Loving the garden vlog. You need to mulch your beds because that will help retain moisture and stop the soil washing away from the top of the roots when you water. Bagged woodchips can be pricey if you need loads of them but often tree surgeons will have a pile of them you can have for free if you have a shovel, a garden bag (ikea bags are perfect!) and some energy!

Just need to make sure that the clippings are from diseased trees if you are getting chippings that way or you could be adding problems to the soil...

You two are doong such a great job and like you relatives said gardening us trial and error and you must give yourselves grace when your plants complain.
Even after looking after my present garden for 17 years I still get a grumpy plant now and again..but it's fine you give it your best shot and sometimes it's just not meant for your garden.
Just know your doong a fantastic job and Maggie is the perfect supervisor xx

Hi Luke, the garden is looking really good. Just a tip - the soil looks like it needs building up a bit - try adding several bags of compost for nutrition, plus some pea straw to give it a bit of body, watering everything well and then mulching to retain the moisture. Once your soil is in really good condition, your plants will thrive with regular feeding and watering - according to their individual needs.

The garden is looking lovely and to be honest you can never stop learning when it comes to gardening! 😃One way to help keep the watered plants hydrated when it is hot is to lay sheets of old newspaper (maybe 6 sheets thick) or flattened cardboard boxes and place wood chips on top. That assists in holding in the water for longer in the heat, keeps the roots cool in the hot weather and also acts as a weed barrier.

Clematis love to have there head in the sun & roots in the shade covering the soil with an ols slab or gravel will help it needs something to grow up like a shrub or trellis finally plant it 3 inches or so deeper than the soil level as clematis are prone to wilt where everything above ground just dies but if you've planted it deeper it will grow back
Lupins I love them but so do the snails & slugs overnight they can destroy all the foiliage one solution is grind up a garlic corm & let it seep in water a spray of the liquid will repel the nasty little creatures, love watching your channel especially when Zara is there & you two interact as you do

The garden is looking so nice. I will suggest that you get a base for the parasol. We had one in our table and a wind came up and still took it out of the table a couple of times. The bases are a bit pricy though. Just a suggestion. Maybe it will be okay being close to the house.

The rearrangement of the patio area looks much better and is a much better use of the space. Maybe add some liquid plant food to your watering can to nourish and feed the plants, water is good too, but lacks the essential nutrients that plants need to thrive. Also maybe grow some tomato's which are very easy to look after especially tumbling varieties that can be grown in hanging baskets. Everything is looking really good and now the weather is also good. Have a lovely week and chill a bit. 🌹🥀🌺🌻🌼🌷🪴🌱

Lovely to see Ewan. The clematis is gorgeous 🎉. Your garden is beautiful. We are all suffering with withered plants,so dont despair. That is gardening. I love the plan for double doors leading out from the kitchen eventually. I also think that the existing back door should echo the new planned doors. You'll lose light if you brick it up. Hi ya Luke, here are some more garden tips. When watering, try to water in the morning or later in the evening. Only water at the base of the plants( with a very low flow or dripping hose). Don’t overwater the lavender or the eucalyptus. As these plants just need a soak a couple of times a week. If you soak the plants that you have planted in the beds a couple of times a week (deep slow watering) & mulch(use ex mushroom compost, wood chips or pea straw -available at most garden centres or nuseries) unless it is really hot this should see you through the summer. Pot plants generally need daily watering at the height of summer. But the Olive trees probably need only a twice a week drink.

Just a couple of little pointers about plants there are different types of Fucias yours look like garden ones to me not hanging basket so I would check before moving they look too woody for baskets also pots indoor or outdoor plants are drawn to the light so if you rotate the pots you plant will grow straight not lean and watering from bottom you don't leave water in the tray it's best to water daily and the plant will have fresh water and standing in water ros the roots but you are doing great garden is lovely

So glad that you are enjoying your garden…but please don’t bother to water your lawn…it will recover colour in due course…meanwhile you are wasting water environmentally…and if you have a water meter you are spending money unnecessarily. Some of your lavender looks like the type that is susceptible to frost. It may/may not survive the winter…even in London. Suggestion…check the pH of your soil…and choose plants that like dry conditions…saves you time and money😀😀😀Have fun…

Your garden is fine, I think you worry to much😀. Maybe Google each plant you have and see how it lives and what it likes. Many plants loose their flowers in spring and only bloom in spring. Many bloom all gardening season and many don't bloom at all. It just depends on what you have. You worry to much. It takes at least three years maybe more for things to get established. I would also get some Espoma Fertilizer. Amazon has it. They make wonderful fertilizer and a new garden will like it, but not too much or you will kill it. Anyway, keep track of this video for next year and you can compare. You can also find plants that like pots, ask your garden center what is best. Gardening should be fun and relaxing. Slow down, it will come.

Hi Luke just a suggestion the clematis you’ve planted, cover the base with a tile or something to protect the roots/base from the cold in the winter, check which one it is for pruning, some you can cut low whereas some have to be above 12inches, I’ve killed off so many by not pruning properly.

I think that plant is an Antirrhinum commonly known as “Bunny Rabbits” as they look like Bunny Heads. A feed tip for cheap feed for plants also is crush egg shells after washing and letting them dry, if you can blitz them into a powder by using a coffee grinder , then just add some powdered yeast, stir together, add water, you will have to add about four pints to two tablespoons of the mixture. Great for houseplants also. You can also add baking soda instead of the yeast.

Probably the original lounge set you ordered is still in China or else in a container somewhere. I think if it had arrived at The Range warehouse they would want it out of there ASAP. No excuse for not keeping you updated or not answering your emails though.

Send an email confirming your cancelation of your order. Do screenshot of the amount of times you've called them and emailed them. Ask your bank if they can do a credit card reversal.

Book thoughts, if a book is not what I expect and has content that upsets me or is too dark I do not finish it. I move on to a new book. Unfortunately, lately, it has happened to me often.

Garden is looking fabulous. I think the table looks much nicer that way round, easier to walk around it and more space for the BBQ. Looking forward to seeing your lounger set, hope it arrives on Monday as promised. The Range were ridiculous if you ordered in April, for goodness sake summer will be over before you'd get it.

When your not sure wether your over watering a pot a good tool is a soil moisture meter which are quite reasonably priced on Amazon. You just stick the metal rod into the soil and it will tell you if the pot is too wet, dry or just right.

Luke, clematis like their roots to be in the shade. So plant maybe some bushy plants in front of it.

Yes, cut off the spent flower stems on the salvias, deadheading encourages plants to flower again. If you notice, there will be seed heads forming after flowering, this is how most plants reproduce, by cutting off the flowers (deadheading) it will encourage the plant to produce more flowers to start the process again. Deadhead the lupins as well.

Happy Sunday Luke, Zara and Maggie! What's lovely surprise to see Mr C too and what a beautiful plant present. I personally love clematis. I find them a pretty hardy plant so it should be ok. Only thing to remember is they like their feet in the shade. I use garden straw or wood chips as mulch but anything will do. Also adding mulch in the garden (pots and ground) will help retain water for all the plants.
Zara and Maggie with the bubbles was very entertaining. What a great idea!
Glad you've managed to get a new lounge set. Everything is coming together so beautifully! So happy for you both. Oh and volunteering at the dog shelter is amazing. I started my vet nurse career working at the SPCA and I can't tell you how much the volunteers were appreciated. We couldn't have done all we did without them🥰
