  • We let strangers in San Diego try mangosteen for the first time! Mangosteen is a truly amazing Southeast Asian fruit popular all over the region, in Thailand (where this particular one was grown), Malaysia, Indonesia, Philippines, etc., and it's common in Chinese supermarkets in the U.S. as well.     Fun fact: At the bottom of mangosteen... you can see a small flower looks like...the petal represent how many the mangosteen's contain.

    There's an easier way for you to peel that:
    1. Remove the stem.
    2. Press it between you palms.
    There you go, clean split.

    Here in Malaysia we call it Manggis and it's queen of fruits and the durian is king of fruits... some season fruits...durian and this mangoosteen came together....durian had acid and mangoosteen have alkali....so eat them can be neutral back your body....amazing....

      I was told by the elder durian is a heaty fruit whereas mangosteen is a cooling fruit. So when we take these fruits at the same time, it can balance up our body.

    I don't understand why do people afraid of such a beautiful, white, pristine fruit (the flesh)? It doesn't look scary.. If it smells odd like durian i can understand. But mangoesteen is so pretty! and tasty!

    In the Philippines, they dry and grind up the peel and use it as a food supplement. It has fullnof anti-oxidants.

    You can ask them to try rambutan...it is rambutan n fruit season now in Malaysia. And this fruit is available in southeast asia. U may like it.

    We in Malaysia call it Manggis.. My grandmother house has so many manggis tree.. Manggis can be found in southeast asia country like Malaysia, Indonesia, Brunei, filipina and thailand

      The langsat or lanzones originated in western Malaysia and is common both wild and cultivated throughout the Archipelago and on the island of Luzon in the Philippines where the fruits are very popular and the tree is being utilized in reforestation of hilly areas..... so don't claim everything

    Open the fruit by pressing it with both palms. Care to avoid staining the red skin juice on your clothing.
    Lovely to eat on its own...good to take it after a bout of durians ...mangosteen is cooling hence countering the heatiness of the durians....cheers !!

    This video reminds me of my older cousin, she married to an Australian guy. One day, her husband found some mangosteens on the table. He grabbed it like eating an apple. Got him spitting and cursing with his mouth all red. What a disgusting fruit! ...cause he was trying to eat the skin. 😂

    Press it with your palms. Get a crack from top to down. Then, break it open into 2 halves.
    Use a finger to dig out segment by segment.
    The smaller ones will have no seeds, but can be sour.

    Love this fruit, plenty in the southern part of the Philippines, a seasonal fruit tho, when in season it cost less than a dollar per kilo. And yeah there all correct about taste, its all combination of what they describe, its that good and has plenty health benefits. Awesome video, hope to see some fruits from SE asia , like the Marang, Lanzones and Durian.

    In the Philippines a company made mangosteen as medicine capsule. Some would boil the skin and drink it. They say it is a herbal medicine that help to lower blood sugar level, anti inflammatory, weight loss and they say it has anti cancerous effect.

    In indonesia, when it not the season of manggis, it cost Rp60.000 / $4 for 10/12 pieces. But if it the season, it cost only Rp 10.000-15.000/ $1

    OK, you've officially made me desperate to try one of these. I live in Connecticut so I can't imagine it'll be easy to find, but I'll try the Asian market I frequent. In this video alone I've heard it tastes like a tangerine, coconut, strawberry, plum, pomegranate, peach. That's pretty damn incredible!!!

    XiaoMa, a little fun thing about mangosteen: the flower petals 🌸 at the bottom of the fruit is just how many seeds/fruit slices you’ll get when you open the fruit. Try to play a guessing games with your friends someday!

    Malaysia also has it
    Normally we eat durian and it caused heatiness
    And mangosteen is for coolness
    Normally they are complementary in the season

    Aside from being tasty, mangosteen is also popular for having very high anti-oxidant content. It's even sold in tea or capsule form in the Philippines. It is highly recommended for those needing an immune system boost. Very nutritious and also delicious!

    In SEA we have King of Fruit (Durian) and also Queen of Fruit (Mangosteen), Indonesian call it Manggis... :)

    You should try tarab fruit... You can get that at Sabah, Malaysia... Thats really delicious and taste good... 👍😋

    In Malaysia its only 10 RinggitMalaysia per kilo. Sometimes more cheaper than that.

      I remember had bought it for RM5 per kilo like three years ago. But never thought it'll be like RM8.50 (USD2.00) for one fruit in US 😂😂
