I feel like the point is being missed here. Most of people buying Bmw that love Bmw are not buying it to make money and resell it, but to have it and use it.
Yeah and then neglect every bit of maintenance
@@WayToManyAssassins I think those are kind of people that buy it as status symbol. On this channel most people are probably genuine about admiring Bmw cars. I loved them since I was kid I had no idea what it was, it was just most beatiful car for me in one photo album when I was really small :) I kinda dislike the stigma Bmw drivers have. I Got E90 320d and I absolutely enjoy driving it, and for me its plenty fast and nice but yes would love to have 6 banger once :)
@@lobobaltazar1322 You are right as people at this channel or similars are beemers loving their cars and not only status seeking people or people trying to trade cars. :)
I bought a 2008 E91 320i a year and a half ago. I have replaced an exhaust vanos solenoid ( 15 minute job ). done one oil and filter change with another coming up ( I do it at 5000km ) and bypassed both pad wear sensors. I've put a good quality fuel system cleaner in it recently and just been on a road trip from Waihi to Auckland and back. It runs like a top and I love it.
N47 is great engine. at 200k~ km you'll have to change the timing chain, and that is expensive because they have to remove the entire engine to be able to change the timing chain... but after that, 100k+ more KM without distribution problems. Other than that, very good engine. I have 118D (E81) for 2 years and half and I had no problems, and I drive it daily like crazy!
118D, 143hp, 2010.
The timing chain is not an "issue"... the fact that you'll have to change it at 200k~ km, that doesn't mean is an issue... you have to change the timing chain on any car that has it... but the "issue" is that is expensive to change it because is all the way back. That doesn't make N47 unreliable.
Agree got a 520d 125000 miles n47 no problems people don’t change oil enough in them that’s all .
I sold my manual n52 and got an auto f30 320d n47 and it's a much better daily imo. Hope the timing chain doesn't snap, but has good oil service history
Thank god I recently bought my first E60 with the trusty N52, admittedly I had to put a water pump and thermostat on it( also belt/tensioner/idler etc. it's so smooth, totally agree with the 4 pot comments I've seen a BMW/Mini specialist on Facebook that recently posted a picture of all the worn/snapped N47 timing chains they fitted it was enough to fill a skip 😕 now if that's not a clue to the issues these engines have I don't know what is keep up the good work mate 👍
The diesel engines are more reliable in general though. N52 has valvetronic issues and can burn oil. Uses a lot of fuel too
Love my 2006 E87 130i - just thinking about Koni suspension for it... good buy? I change my oil every 2000miles 🤙
Anyone buying a cheap car (like me) most likely does not know BMW. I myself did not know what a BMW was until i owned one and just figured it was just like any of the other cars that you mentioned. Even VW is more common than BMW or Mercedes. Probably because of the bug and or the ECONOMY scandal. I guess i just never looked into them myself and probably should have done the research before the purchase of course which i did as far as reviews but my co worker was driving the car to work everyday and let me look at it. Overall it is drivable and im glad i got the car. I'll get it back in shape the best I can and call it a fun project and a lesson learned. I know a little something about N52 engines and ZF Transmissions. Thanks
See I agree to disagree. I personally own an 2005 e87 116i 1.6 bought at 106K now at 131K owned for about 2 years and no problem at all with the car. I perhaps may have been lucky with it but thing I tend to do with any car owned is always doing the regular service/oil changes. Putting nothing but what the manufacturer recommends which is Castrol edge oil. Letting the engine get up to temp before driving, only putting nothing but E5 shell V Power or momentum E5 99 from Tesco. Doing these small things I would say helps to prolong the life of ur engine and have minimal problems.
my 2008 116i blew up at 70k, i brought it at 60k.
Wonderful video
I made a mistake already 😁
I own e90 320i bought it cheap spent same amount already getting it to run butter smooth….
got 2 n47's in the family and altough the bad rep, have been a breeze to own in comparison to my 116i i had. n43 is the biggest bag of nails to exist lol
I bought bmw e82 123d from Germany with 220k km on it with n47s engine. All I did to it is service, changed the timing chain and crankshaft pulley. ( OFC I opted for OEM parts, expect for some of the timing chain components cuz some OEM parts like chain it self is not that reliable on e82 like on f20.). In 2024 my plans is to go straight to stage 2 or even stage2+ with this car. The Bi-turbo on this thing is great even with a stock map. Feels like you are on a petrol car. If you want a 2L diesel engine then go for 123d, cuz its much more bullet proof than for example 120 or lower models. Had 118d f20 before that and that thing was leaking oil from all places imaginable.
There's nothing wrong with the 1 series.
The 1M was made from it.
Totally disagree with how you cast a negative stereotype of people who buy a 1 series. .
You clearly didn’t watch this video and if you did you must be offended that your car was mentioned. As clearly you don’t know me or my channel well as if you did you would know I do not dislike the 1 series I have owned 2 and still own one. Certain models are crap and the engines in them not the 1 series as a whole and I never mentioned it as a whole either. Go back and rewatch the video before commenting and get yourself in the correct position before commenting.
@user-gl5ld9vm7i go check out his previous video, he praises one of the 1-series. Not all of them are bad. As mentioned before, certain versions should be avoided. Mainly the low spec models
X5 or even X6 now for 17ish k uk. Need it to do long trips twice a month and it has to be LEZ compliant. Any recommendations? On point channel!
So many engines mentioned, did not hear M47, maybe was mentioned, but did not hear it. Is M47 rubbish too than? I bit a bullet and went for pretty broken E90 318D with m47 for £1000 and made it run and roadworthy.
I just watched this, having bought my first ever second-hand BMW.
He does mention the M47 (same engine I have in my 320D E90).
Have had it over 6 months and engine seems OK, touch wood.
Reason I'm here is because my daughter drove it and left the lights on resulting in the battery ending up flat as a pancake.
Since then, I've a false-positive warning light on the dashboard I want to reset.
He's right about one thing. If anything major goes wrong, I can't afford a BMW mechanic so I'm knackered.
But we buy what we can afford to buy at the time (or most of us do) and those of us with a £1000 to £1500 budget don't really have that many options other than to grab what's going.
"Beggars can't be choosers" as the old saying goes.
What do you think about the BMW X6 E71 Petrol Engines?
Mate the M3 badge gives you like 30hp extra, didn't you know?
Hi bmw doc, was hoping for some advice, my 330cd m57 turbo blue up, what's the chance that parts have entered the cylinder head, no metal in sump little bit in intercooler
Do you really think he will respond to you?
I am looking at 2015/16 both E89 28i and 228i at the moment, what r the common issues? or should I let go and look for something else?
What about a 428i m sport will full service history and clean mot history?
I’ve got both a N52 330xi and B58 340xi, 330 is more fun to drive. I have to sell it this year which makes me sad. Anticipating $8-10k Canadian. Impeccably maintained.
ive got a GR supra. is the b58 a reliable car for me to keep for life? :P
I’m buying a used 2008 BMW 528i what would you recommend me change once I buy it.. there’s no history but it looks good, just connect the scanner (expensive one) and that’s it? Sorry if I missed the video if you made one 😅
N53 engine?
Damn man this was gunna be me a few weeks ago but when we got back from the test drive it started pooling coolant. After a lot of retrospection I decided to just get a Lexus and I think I made the better decision for my current situation.
What about series 1 N43 116i sport edition?
Avoid the DCT variant of the E92 335i. I’ve got one and it suddenly got a fault, causing the electric gear selector to not let you get out of park and literally no local bmw shop knows the cause or fix. It’s been stuck in my driveway for the best part of a year and idk what to do with it lol
I’ll buy it
We have a 335d xdrive with 313 hp and now 507.000(!) km. Just services . No problems. Car is from 2015.
The only 4 Cylinders that BMW seem to have got right are the B48 & B47 as they're modular, so the 3, 4 and 6 cylinder are the same block. A lot of praise going around for the B spec engines.
I agree on that the B series engines are really doing good out there right now I mean B47 is having slight issues with EGR related problems and a few timing chain faults as I know this as I done videos on that engine and people are commenting daily on that about all the issues they are having.
I've got the 118D bmw absolut I don't where he is buying his cars because I bought mine for 7K so where he is buying for 1K let me know
Just out of curiosity whats your take on Porsche Boxters?
A great performing car all round I love mine not that I drive it much as I don’t drive at all much 😄 but when I do man it makes you feel good to be out driving it but I would only opt for the S versions the rest are not worth it in my opinion anyway as you will always feel like you want the s to feel the difference. But overall brilliant brilliant car and to think the Boxster/cayman handless better then the 911 😟 I know I just said that right Porsche guys hate when people say that but it’s the truth 😄
But yes buy one obviously parts and cheap as bmw but then nobody wants to compromise on a Porsche you didn’t compromise when you bought it so why compromise on parts right ? And that’s why the prices stay high and that’s why people don’t ask much about one when buying because they know you can’t put cheap parts on a Porsche as cheap parts don’t exist all Porsche parts are expensive so if you replaced something people know it wouldn’t have been cheap.
Love the video i have to ask n47 engine if looked after by previous owner and full history in bmw lci 09 plate and drives smooth excellent gear changes no lacking
Would u say its good?
Ive only want to get it because am 24 and insurance is like 4 grand a year
Once i turn 25+ plus defently want a 530i or 530d
Your thoughts please thanks
Love the background!! Keep it up !! Some preventive maintenance on older bmw would be great also try getting a e34 m5 !! Id love some vids - we have one so would help and can increase your collection!!
If I can find one cheap enough I would do that and the same applies for the E39 M5 but unfortauntely they don’t come around at the prices I’m only willing to give.
So true even the e34 here is more expensive then some f10 but the e39 is wayyyyy to rare!! There is about 3 for sale - e39 !!
Enjoy ya day !!
How is 15 335i msport????
I've had my 2014 F30 320d ( N47) for 8 years now ... its on 59 000 miles I change the oil &filter every 4000 miles , never had an issue only cost other then servicing I fitted new brake pads last year 🤷♂️
M47 320/120d one of the best most reliable and fuel efficient cars ive owned
I fucking love my shitty e90 320d 😂. I watch your videos and fix my cars myself. Or try at least. Sometimes ill take it to my mate whos good with BMW to be fair but i 100% do regret not buying 330.
I have had a series 2 BMW 218i year 2016 from Ireland for 12 months, what do you think of that model, honestly, many thanks
Is an E39 540i worth buying? 2000 model with 133k miles. I do know these do need timing chain replacements and have Vanos issues. Always loved the E39 and drove E39 530d’s but just wanted something bit more exclusive and bit more exciting😅
Basically what he’s saying about the m5 is, you better have some knowledge and the stomach to own one especially wherever this guy is from.
I own an E60 M5. It’s expensive but rewarding. But I don’t daily my M5, and I don’t think it’d be wise to do so. I drive a 95 Mazda protege to work or my 06 x5.
So a common theme is the 2 litre engines being an issue. Does that mean the 3 litre engines are better. I've heard bad things about the 335i.
Get the 330i I'm loving mine with the n53 engine
Where are all these cars for £600
Maybe there in the scap yard or coparts
you would be surprised
