Thanks. Yeah, I've been thinking about doing another review since it's been over a year now. After these things get broken in they're a little more amazing, I think. For instance the neck is made of such hard materials like the carbon fiber and the stainless steel frets... Just really getting the action the way you want it etc it really starts to turn into a more personal instrument once it's broken in. Conversely, I feel like the telecasters are made of softer woods etc
Yeah, it still possesses the expected characteristics of a traditional Telecaster. Actually, the neck pick up sounds and feels very similar but maybe on this it's just bright enough that it's even more usable. The bridge pick up in this thing is thicc...
...Also, I might add that you just really have to keep tweaking the truss rod action and pickups to really get it to sing properly for your style. A lot of people seem like they just try to give up when they get a strandy (expecting it to be absolutely perfect right out of the box), but it can really be a perfect instrument if you just put a little bit of extra effort into adjustments.
I got one just like your model, used, so I got a better price than the new selling price. Mine is the candy red model, it does have the roasted maple neck/pau farou fingerboard. I had no problems with the enduro neck, the part that is hard I think to get used to is that 20 degree, almost flat fingerboard. Some chording is actually better with the ANGLED frets, and some is different with it. I did play it for quite a while so it is comfortable. I been tweaking the truss rod. You influenced me in taking the chance on it. The Pickups are awesome, depending on the amp/sim, they can flat out scream.
This Has to be the best demo of this Model of strand on RUclips. Outstanding, I hear some Eric Johnson in there as well as Allan Holdsworth too. I saw Allan 2 years in a row Live in 1983,84, we were all in Awe of his playing. These were the Charvel strat days. And he had all the Rack mounted effects too. Nice to see a Player who does some Justice for the Progressive style that was Birthed in the 1970's with Mahavisnu orchestra, and Jeff Becks instrumental albums, as well as the Dregs, and others. And actually YES with Steve Howe might have been the earliest. King Crimson as well.
😊👍, I really wanted to do a review that players who prefer telecasters would enjoy...Seeing a guitar like this that's familiar yet still so different it can be confusing as to whether or not it will work for them or what kind of sounds you would get out of it. I hope that this clarifies some of that.
Thanks for the video! I was thinking about installing a midi pickup like a Fishman Triple Play on a Salen, but wasnt sure if it would fit right. How were you able to install your GK-3 on it and does it get in the way?
Initially they had already installed it for me. fairly recently I moved it from the back of the guitar to the top that way I could change patches etc. Really you just have to make sure that all your plugs have clearance before you attach it. I haven't really noticed any problems with regards to its placement. Where I've got it right now is pretty much where you have to put it if you want it on the top/front.
I personally recommend only having the pickup screwed into the body, if you're going to use this thing there's no point in only going half hog into it, go all the way, screw it into the body of the guitar...
Probably balances well at the strap buttons. Looks like the top horn of the Strandberg is longer than the standard Fender Tele . Having no headstock would also reduce neck dive .
I've been pretty much on that non-stop for years now, but you know I play all kinds of stuff, I'm not really a shredder per se.... It's just funny, it's a joke because guitar players be like, compartmentalizing each other into these genres or something... I just do whatever I want, sometimes it's really insane fast stuff or complicated things, other times it's just different forms of music or whatever ...ambient
Is there a 60 cycle hum or did Strandberg figure out a way to cancel that out? Love the guitar, barely record my Tele due to hum. Sucks to have been raised on humbuckers. Say it ain't so!
@@TorySlusher Hey, was going to ask this same question, glad I decided to look through your comments first. Great Jazz tones BTW. I'm more of an Ed Bickert than an Alan Holdsworth...how's advanced chording on that thing? I have to drive about 169 miles to get to play one and the store only has the Tele style not the Jazz one, kinda want the Jazz one because I don't need anymore Telecasters. Great playing count me subscribed.
The fanned fret is a thing But my main gripe were those flat radius fingerboard. It totally missed the mark for me as someone that like to play funky stuff.
@@TorySlusher i did have one on loan for month during lockdown. And i still can't gel with 20" radius Strandberg fanned is pretty minimal and those endureneck does require getting used to. I can't do my usual over the thumb on low e and a tho. (Main guitar is ibanez talman with narrow modern c neck) But those 20" is what's killing my right hand technique. And I'm still somewhat ok with 12" Mind you I'm trying my best to like it since it's the perfect travel tele for me. Perhaps i should just sand the fingerboard and refret the darn thing 😅
You can do it just by having two rigs but also internally in the unit (GP 10). Every patch has like one chain for the gk3 pickup in another for the regular pickup.
@@TorySlusher Yep, very happy with mine. Best guitar I ever had and one I really like to pick up. It's an inspiring instrument. I wish they made an 8 string Sälen too D:
audio is slightly out of sync with video for some reason. looks like roasted maple neck maybe. Fanned fret is not for me. Been playing 50 years, not going to waste time down that path.
I thought it was something to do with the video, or certain videos, as it turns out on certain devices it does this... For instance, when I watch this on the console attached to my TV there's no problem.. I don't know what it is, something to do with bitrates maybe

Came for the guitar, stayed for the killer playing!!
oh god the music, the tones, the backgrounds, everything is so beautiful
Great playing!! Glad I found your channel. Thanks for demoing this guitar in jazz!. Cheers.
Awesome playing! Great variety of sounds and styles!
I have a Strandberg Boden that I love. These are top-shelf guitars.
Yeah, I think so too... for me it took a minute to get the action the way I want, but now..... jeez, omfg.... mot just
You’re an amazing talent ! Very personal and so musical !! Keep going !
You are a amazing guitar player!
thanks
VERY nice playing and review of the tonal possibilities of the Sälen!!

Damn, awesome playing! The 24 frets had me worried that the neck pickup would sound "off" but I'm only hearing great tones here.

Great review - love your ways

And a very tiny little bit of clapton
OUTSTANDING playing! What a treat. You definitely make that guitar work and it seems to deliver. Thanks for doing this.

Hi Tory Is your GK-3 Pickup screwed to the Strandberg body? Or Tape on? Thanks
I personally recommend only having the pickup screwed into the body, if you're going to use this thing there's no point in only going half hog into it, go all the way, screw it into the body of the guitar...
Love that country sound👍🏻
Thanks Tory !!! Great review !!! The Tesla version !!
I think it really is like that as far as wood and metal is concerned. ... And I meant that where the Tesla was seen in the best possible light.
Great playing. Actually not just great but awesome.
Probably balances well at the strap buttons. Looks like the top horn of the Strandberg is longer than the standard Fender Tele . Having no headstock would also reduce neck dive .
I think the lower bout has a deeper cut .... they're very nice
Wish they had more color and fingerboard wood options though....
@@TorySlusherThey do now... plus a 7 string model if you ever considered going back, lol.
You're super amazing and I love everything you do....., but sooner or later all shredders go back to the classic tele, through the tube amp

@@TorySlusher yes, you're right 🙂 you do many different things 👍 a "Monster Girl" 🤩💫💥 very talented and unusual
Country, Jazz, Fusion... and a whole bag of tricks.
Might want to try out the Fishman pickups too.
I'm thinking eventually they're going to come out with a set of noiseless pickups for this model...

No, they're regular tele pickups.

Your right hand technique is insane!! how did you develop that? plz make a tutorial video!!!
Honestly, the same way you develop the other hand. No shortcuts. It's like Kung Fu training.
@@TorySlusher Thank you for replying!! When you play really fast, do you use your nail? or just use finger pulps' side only?

Does it have the Suhr noiseless thingy?
Unfortunately, no
How are you able to blend synth with straight guitar pick-ups?
You can do it just by having two rigs but also internally in the unit (GP 10). Every patch has like one chain for the gk3 pickup in another for the regular pickup.
Have you played out much, either band or solo?
Bit of both, but not recently. Video is more permanent...
Very nice playing! Wow!! Pls do more. Got a Sälen too - butterscotch one. Love it but am nowhere near your skill and musicality ;)
They're pretty awesome instruments, incredible actually, especially when you get them set up
@@TorySlusher Yep, very happy with mine. Best guitar I ever had and one I really like to pick up. It's an inspiring instrument. I wish they made an 8 string Sälen too D:
I hate to admit but this is the future and makes other guitars seem so antiquated. I’m both happy and sad about that.
I get that
Fantastic! And Ola, please, please contour the sharp edge under the forearm away!
That might be cool, I actually find that due to the small size of the body overall it's not even really required though...
@@TorySlusher I'm sure it doesn't bother everyone. I'm acutely aware of the edge pressing against my arm compared to say, my strat. Cheers, Daniel

u r awesome !
I can’t get past the 20” fingerboard radius. 15” feels table-top enough, but 20”? No please.
...I thought so a bit at first too, due to being so telecaster oriented, but it is actually amazing once you acclimate.
I bet you are an Albert Lee Fan??
I've listened to him in the past, yes
