The story's actually good too. A lot of the dialogue is cringe, but that's because most of the main characters are supposed to be cringe themselves.
The story is good, it's just that people take themselves too seriously and can't handle a b-movie plot with funny stupid dialogue.

@@shanks950Have you played the game though? The game is going all in on camp, which is sort of the opposite of cynicism.
The writing is cheesy, but because it takes itself too seriously; because it thinks its stupid characters and dumb plot are way cooler and deeper than it actually is; because it wants to wholly embrace the “cringe”. It’s evoking the 2010s weaboo who thinks katanas and trench coats are a badass combination and believes Cowboy Bebop is the greatest literary work humanity has ever produced.
I don’t think the game um, does this well to be honest, but I think it’s unfair to characterize it as a cynical ironyfest when it clearly does actually have a legitimate reverence for that era of anime culture. This indie game even managed to get Steve Blum to voice the main protagonist, they definitely care about paying tribute.

I considered buying this game a while back. Gameplay seemed pretty good. But that dialogue? Yeah, I figured I’d save my money in case I found a game that did the “high-speed 3D platforming” shtick better.

No, but actually this game is fucking incredible. I didn’t much appreciate the campy writing either, but the actual gameplay is so good that I did not care one bit. I don’t think I’ve played any game that really scratches the itch this game does except for like, maybe Ultrakill.
