This feels like such a kind gesture, taking animals that are normally thought of as pests and making room for them in your animal room in a positive and mindful way.
I can't get over how Tanner is now just randomly appearing anywhere in the video asking us to subscrube like he just a S C E N D S out of the pot lmao-
@@SerpaDesign kudos btw for your pronounciation of süßwassertang from a german viewer. it's almost there :) well and it's a prime example how we germans are the masters of compound words lol. süßwasser is just the german name for fresh water and literally means sweet water. salzwasser is ofc salt water. and tang is just our term for the type of algae. i always feel like english speakers tend to just ignore our äöü and pronounce them like aou. but you nail the ü.
I had a lot of fun making this one and I hope you all enjoyed the video. As always, let me know what you think about the project! Thanks for watching and supporting the channel as well. I appreciate your viewership and can't wait to show you what else I have in store for this year... we haven't even started yet!
As always - I love what you do!!! One question to this one, though: How do they get O2? Does the Süsswassertang produce enough of it for the inhabitants? I would have thought more plants necessary? Or do you regulate this via waterchanges?
I've never heard of scuds but they're just tiny friends!!! I love that you have scapes for the smallest animals like millipedes, shrimp, and now scuds!
Everyone hates when people are told “subscribe” but when you do it, I swear I can’t help but laugh and wish I could hit the button a few more times. I hope everyone has a wonderful day!
Yeah these are freshwater amphipods, scuds are just their common name. We also got copepods and ostracods and daphnia and stuff. One of my favorite things about freshwater aquariums is making a mini ecosystem with all these zooplankton and what not, and using plants and stuff to make it easier so I only gotta do a water change once every like 6 months
Amazing after a few hours you can make a thing that we can see little things thrive, and just down the road a Witch Doctor simmers plants too and we can see things with his...Wonderful
The new edits for the "like" reminders are the perfect sort of goofy, definitely enjoying them. Great little showcase for some unassuming invertebrates, love how it turned out.
Whilst I find myself in a position where I'm unable to work on content on my own channel I am binge watching all your stuff! Amazing work, thank you for sharing all you do!
I love that SerpaDesign doesn't just treat unexpected critters like pests but adopts them too; saw that with the wolf spider vid too. I love that so much!
OMG I just made something almost exactly the same, with blackwater and an open top with a piece of driftwood coming out the top with wandering jew on it. With pogostemon stellatus octopus and dwarf hairgrass.
What a terrific idea. I just have mine in a ten gallon tote with a heater and a sponge filter. I know that they like eating Hornwort, a floating plant, or any floating plants. I put in a spinach leaf once in a while for them. Great tutorial. Short and to the point.
@@SerpaDesign can't wait for brand new content.. love your channel, you have become my weekly decompression after a long week of work! Keep it up bro...
oh this is great! I really love it. Thank you for sharing a simpler project that someone who doesn't have many resources can attempt with some hope of success.
OMG! OMG! Omg! Shout out from Oklahoma! I cant believe it! I was just looking at your old videos late last night and early this morning regarding closed aqua escape ecosystem. I decided to make me one since I can afford a aquarium. This is a confirmation to go for it. I am so excited, I cant stand myself. THANK YOU, THANK YOU TANNER!
i finally saved all of my money and made my own. its a 1.5 gallon tank with sand and a bonsai tree filled with cherry shrimp fresh water gobies and some other fish!!!
Ive been following you for months now, I am so inspired. My ecosphere was my first and most stable system. I wish I could send you a picture im so happy with it. Its basically a pond in a jar! Scuds, tubefix worms, microorganisms, "pest" snails, and two tiny ram's horns...Lilly and Lighla 😊
I've always loved shrimp and crabs and lobsters and anything shrimp-like. The way mine steal food pellets, the way they are the only ones who can be near the pleco without being slapped by its tail.
That's an awesome build and the other bit is freeky funny. I never get tired of watching you Tanner. Absolutely inspired me for a project today on my break. I have a pond outside, I'll see what's in there.

I'd love to see a 10/15 gallon Betta, tetra, and shrimp tank with red coloured stones and plants. I'd love it if the livestock are all red as well. Basically a red themed tank!
I love this one. I think scuds are fascinating to watch, I used to have a tank with just scuds and snails in it. Pulling your head out of the pot was great too. 😂

Hey, I'm watching your videos for the first time. Do you keep all the jars you make or do you give them away? :)
He keeps them
But if you go to like Costco or A kitchen warehouse you could usually get those for very cheap
Very nice. Will the plants be able to provide the enough oxigen to such an oxigen-demanding species such as Gammarus?
how goes it tanner
This feels like such a kind gesture, taking animals that are normally thought of as pests and making room for them in your animal room in a positive and mindful way.
And the using them as fish food.
Since when did anyone think of them as pests?
@@SMDoktorPepper because they didn’t intentionally put them in the tank
In terms of pests, these are far from the most harmful type.
Oh, whoops! I just commented the same XD
Saturday mornings in the 90's CARTOONS

The humorous editing never fails to make me laugh it's so unexpected xD. Also a scud breeding video would be greatly appreciated.
I laughed so loudly when that clip came up. So unexpected and reminds me to like every time 🙌 I love the creativity.
Would love to see more on scud care / breeding. I've tried but I just can't keep them alive :(

You are the first English speaking aquarist I've heard to correctly pronounce Süßwassertang. Gold star🌟 .
These are like how its made episodes. These are also perfect to watch stoned. Love it
Thanks for teaching me of a new creature's existence.
Watching your videos got me hooked on building aquascapes and terrariums
I really like the red/brown colour of this whole scape, and the trumpet snails match it too. Very cool little setup. I love small vase/bottle setups.
Man that looks so aesthetically pleasing for being relatively simple
Exactly my speed! Love having the tiny critters to watch.
Interesting, those look EXACTLY like the marine amphipods in my reef tank. I never knew they had them in FW tanks.

I swear, I learn something new with all of your videos. I had scuds in my betta tank once upon a time and had no clue what they were.
the weird oblong shape of the container really meshes well with keeping an "oddball" creature like scuds
