That stove looks like something designed by marketing and signed of by management without bothering anybody with actual wood stove experience or engineering savvy! I'm not sold on it!
Patagonia has always been over priced, and it's gotten worse over the decades, but now I see it's pretty much hit rock bottom. They're just selling crap and putting a name on it and selling it for a fortune. Thanks for the honest review. You seem to like so much that I was worried you were too nice to give a bad review.🙂
Thanks for an honest review. Patagonia was the brand to have in the 70s & 80s. Back the the Patagonia name meant something. IMO the company started going down hill about 20 years ago. 100 bucks....not from me.
Thanks for picking up that stove and reviewing it. When you quoted the price, I first thought that would be including the pot. Well, I stand corrected. The patagonia stove does not seem to play in the same ball park as the 5" firebox. I think it´s still ok to illustrate how much more value you can get for the 100 $. For less than half the price I picked up a titanium wood stove that fits for about the same pot size. It is lighter, more stable, more versatile, better ventilated, has more fuel capacity and has a feed port. It packs smaller. It is slightly harder to assemble though. I can live with that.
..I was gonna comment on your previous comment. I picked up the Simple Theory and every accessory they sell for well under $80. Burns and cooks with all charcoal like a champ!
Well all Patagonia stuff is WAAAAAY overpriced. I get their catalogs... and its just ridiculous. My son is a Patagonia mark... I think that I'd gear up in the stuff If I were climbing K2... maybe.
Thanks for the honest review… I’ve always called them patagucci. Yes they make good products, but most the time I find something at half the cost & just as good.

It makes you wonder... did they do any market research beforehand? If so: people like big and heavy stoves without a possibility to feed wood into it while cooking... oh and they like to pay a lot for it too 🙄 Anyway, thanks for the review as always 👍
Wondering if the quantumiir pot would nest/work well with the svea 123r 🤔 a overbuilt heat exchanging pot is kinda what I’m looking for for my svea. Love this channel!!!
Good on ya. I like Patagonia and their ideals. A lot of the time though it seems like they don't get out enough, and are too stuck in their own bubble. This stove feels like something they came up with and didn't seek input on from those who might have offered some objective feedback.
I think I will pass on this one Dr. Ernie. I drilled a couple extra holes in my titanium Vargo Hex stove and it is lighter than this, can feed it, and burns well with the extra holes. It might make a good wind screen for an alcohol stove, but so does the Vargo. Thanks for an informative video.
Thanks for the review, I have a Aulza stove and was wondering if I should switch because that stove looks smaller. Overall though my stove has never gave me problems just kinda big.
The Firebox stoves has it beat six ways past Sunday. With the Firebox you can spend less or more depending on which stove you like. Plus they can be a multi fuel stove not only wood burning. Myself I like the Firebox Nano Gen 2 in titanium.
Brother not for me, 5 inch Fier Box ,real soon ,I pulling the trigger. Thank you Ernie your Awesome for showing winners and Lossers. God bless you and your family and are Great Country and Republic
Good review. I looked at these and wouldn’t buy one because I’ve already got better for less but if you want your stove and pot to match your puffy.....
I would also choose to use a superior alternatives than the Patagonia set for hiking/backpacking (like others have mentioned...SS or titanium Firebox, Simple Theory Gear, Bush Buddy, etc). In my neck of the Pacific Northwest woods, a perhaps better "apples-to-apples" combination to compare to the Patagonia setup would be the Silverfire Stainless Steel Scout and the Silverfire Scout Mini 2 Liter Dragon Skirted Pot/Lid (can be purchased separately or in a set). Granted, the Silverfire set is a bit larger and more justified for feeding two people. Both sets would be reasonable for car camping or a short hike in somewhere... However, the Silverware stove, having a ground heat shield and being a very robust and forgiving woodgas stove, would be far superior to the Patagonia stove for just a few extra dollars.
First thing I thought of when you asked, “Anything missing?” was, holes for air flow, a way to feed it. This may be a case where a company known for great products took the easy way out and didn’t do their research, but figured their name on the product would sell it for them. If it wasn’t so costly one could overlook the other design flaws discussed in the video. Just my initial thoughts.
In my opinion, the best wood stove out there is the firebox stove. I love mine. I have a lot of other stoves which are good but the firebox and my double walled gasifier stove from China is great for boiling water fast with minimal fuel. I live in Ventura where Patagonia is located. Overall I like their products but out of the box this one looked like it was full of issues
Thanx for the review and to reconfirm that I'll be sticking to my Trangia as always. Patagonia is and always will be over priced and should stick the the apparel stuff. Take care Ernie~
That conical shape remembers me a little bit of the Bushcooker Lt II from Four Dog Stoves which is hand made in the USA by a little manufacturer. It is a single piece double wall titanium wood stove and sold for less bucks than this Patagonia stainless steel stove. (I think you didn't test that yet and suggest to give it a try ...)
@@MrTangent well no, not exactly, the Caldera Cone system lets the pot sit inside, this one has the pot on top like the good old Bushcooker does. Besides that the Caldera Cone is no wood stove but just kind of a windscreen and alcohol stove. I'm not 100% sure but I guess the Bushcooker was the first wood stove with that round and conical design. In terms of construction it is totally different to that Patagonia product, of course - it has a fan shaped ground to give a vortex inside the stove, is double walled, made out of titanium etc. ...

I wonder how the performance of this stove compares to a stainless steel utensil holder available from a well known Scandinavian company teamed up with a 10cm Zebra billy pot which packs inside it at a fraction of the cost.
Great video. I wonder about a few things though. Do you really want the indents on pot to “lock” into the stove? I feel like if it was a stronger fit you might find it pulls/knocks off the top half of the stove when you go to feed in more fuel. I wouldn’t want to have to put it back on when it’s a few hundred degrees to the touch! I also wonder if the airflow would be better if you used actual twigs and not your shavings. They seem to plug up the air holes and hamper the stove. I also wonder about the weight. If I was a thru hiker weight would be a huge deal. As a weekend warrior, who really cares if something is a few ounces heavier? If weight was such an concern I’d have to leave the beer at home on my camping trips! Other than that though I would have to agree with you. Way overpriced considering the better options out there. Why pay more for something that’s not as well designed as many other stoves out there. Thanks for another great review! Glad you’re back on RUclips!

WHEW $99 for 9 ounces of something that can be made from a tin can and coat hanger. It can handle wet wood too because it's bottom fed, as opposed to top. When you top feed moist wood, the humidity evaporation will choke the flame, and bring out a whole bunch of smoke. Patagonia should stick to windshirts and plastic sweaters, this thing is worth $15 max.
Starving for air, no feed port, small burn chamber, top heavy and $100+ price? They have a real winner there.......I wouldn't pay $20 for that waste of steel. My $17 chinese gasifier has that beat by a country mile.

It can be used year around and under restrictions. Cost of stove and a fuel canister is $25. No wood gathering either... $100 for tested wood stove is just an insult to me... Thanks for reviewing it... Good vids..
Way over priced for what it is, would be nice to be able to feed wood from the bottle, that would also improve the draft, the pot stand needs work, to improve stability, the pot needs deeper indents on bottom to improve stability, would prefer a metal lid with a folding lifter, to make it easy to remove when hot, one issue with these types of stoves is that they are really not on the go stoves, as you can not pack them until the cool down.
