It's not Lord Robert Salisbury. Do interviewers or anyone else do their research. He's the Marquess of Salisbury not the younger son of a Duke or Marquess. It's simply The Marquess of Salisbury or Lord Salisbury or Rober, Lord Salisbury

The Scottish referendum did not cède sovereignty as it could only be granted by Westminster. Clearly if there is a feeling in one part of the country for secession it has to be tested in that part of the country. It appears to have escaped his notice that the UK is a ‘tad’ asymmetrical England’s population being massively greater than the rest combined (this was not nearly so pronounced at the time of the Acts of Union. The other countries would as s result resent any decision and disunity would increase so the whole premise is flawed.

Note sure this would work there is an assumption that ex-ante you can assume all four nations would accept that there should be a UK going forward. There is a certain conflation between what is described as the centre and the biggest of the nations. The problem is two fold, the biggest nation does not have its own Parliament but because of its far greater size dominates the national or ,as it is put here, or federal Parliament. This means that whatever is left to the national Parliament is determined by that biggest nation. This is what we have today. The biggest nation telling the next biggest:
    1. that if it wants to remain in the EU it had better stay in the UK
    2. that as the biggest nation has decided it is leaving the other three shall do likewise regardless of what they think and
    3. no you cannot have another say on independence even if we tricked you with 1 and 2.
    4. we know what is best for you and will decide for you

You're having a laugh, Scotland can vote on issues that only effect England and the same is not true vice versa.

@@eoghan-uk9yi yes they can vote and technically that is not right. However the far greater number of English MPs is such that in most cases it will not matter how the Scottish MPs vote. In fact, as their votes will not have an impact they might well not bother. But all that said, they should be disqualified from voting on purely English affairs. For national issues of interest to both, English MPs’ votes will be decisive and Scottish MPs will always be outvoted.

Northern Ireland isn’t a nation in any way or form. This federalisation plan should have happened after WW1 before Irish dependence . It’s too little too late now
