Nice, Ted, that you mentioned the PEOPLE..several comments here LOOKED at the photographs but did not SEE the people. This reminds me a phrase of Galen Rowell, great photographer, in his famous book "Mountain Light", where he says "people come, come, look but they don't see".
Roger I spent 8 weeks there fixing fast jets, like you I found the locals very friendly, I was treated to some great trips out and one was a Water pipe house, great smell and full of characters. Great images and video, the best one for me was the Old guy with the stunning eyes.
To say (in not so many words) that sometimes you just have to put the camera down and just look with your own eyes is in my opinion, the one most important thing I've learned from these two (so far) videos. Excellent photography Roger, you make it all seem so easy. Street photography isn't my bag, I know it to be deceptively difficult to achieve what you have there, very well done! Glad the family loved it too.
The quality of this content! Intimate and immediate story telling, great photos, great music and transitions. It seems so easy and natural, like you’re just having a wander and a chat with a mate. I can only imagine how much work it takes to seem so effortless this but it is really appreciated by your subscribers. ALL the photos are bangers but the woman through the glass at 7:30 was my personal favourite.
Thanks Simon. I saw her and the large open window and took the photo. Not something I'd be happy to do at home in Starbucks, yet, at home it feels all too ordinary.
what a fantastic trip! I was supposed to go there in '90 when I was in the Marine Corps, but an injury kept me from going. I was not a photographer then, but I enjoyed just taking snapshots. Thank you for sharing. This place is now high up there on my bucket list.
@@ShootFilmLikeaBoss Oh, I am sure of that. But still, always wanted to go to places like this. I love learning about other cultures and meeting new people. I spent over 25 years as an over-the-road truck driver here in the States. I've been in and thru every US state except Alaska, Maine, and New Hampshire. Ran all over British Columbia and Alberta too. I think that desire to see new places and meet new people is one of the reasons I did it. That and I absolutely love trucks and waking up in a different place every day!. I stopped the OTR gig in 2015 due to my wife's health, but I still love to travel when I get a chance. Love your channel sir! I shoot quite a bit of film, mostly B&W, and your work keeps me inspired. Someday you'll have to come over here to Big Sky Country in Montana and we'll go to Glacier and Yellowstone.
I agree with Simon, Roger, those portraits were absolute stonkers, the second they flashed up on screen my first thought was 'wow' followed by 'they're going to print lovely' Glad you enjoyed your time over there, though I think even with a digital camera you'd still be looking back thinking how many you might have missed anyway
Wow what beautiful portraits and street photography you must have been in your element FM3a and Acros looks a great combination love to shoot some Ferrania P30 there I think it would suit the light blown away Roger beautiful thanks for sharing
For my shame I’ve only just caught up with this video. You have a great way with people and made some great portraits that I couldn’t do in a million years. I can talk to the trees however 😊
I really appreciate the photos you took in Bahrain. The portraits, the street photos, they're just beautiful. But, I have to say, from the video, the colors there are so different from the kind of colors that I typically see in photos made in the US or Europe. As much as I like all the photos you took, I would love to see them in color. I shot b&w film for forty years or more, but the colors in Bahrain are so warm and the shadows are so open. Please go back and shoot more and consider using color, film or digital. If I were in better health, I would love to go.
Thanks Michael. I am not that great with developing colour film but I'm learning! I did shoot some colour but only around the Hotel on Fuji 400Pro Medium Format. Next time I go I shall take your words into thought. Thank you and I wish you well.
you have so much Material you should join the Royal Photographic Society and go for your Associateship ( ARPS after your name) I got MINE in 1970 for a set on 'Scientific Applications' .
Hi Roger, As usual you gave us another beautiful video. The FM3A is incredible, as is the film you used. How did you handle the X-ray problem at the airport? You bought the films in Bahrain. Thanks again, Edoardo from Milan
Thanks Jon. Not really unless I make a video showing my prints and what went on through my head at the time. I think mostly trying to fill the frame observing what's in the background and having my subject framed accordingly. Either to the left, right or middle.
Did you give any of the prints to any of the subjects or did they even ask for them? Those portraits look so good that it would be a nice gift to the subject imho.
I did not. I had a translator with me but not too easy to communicate exchanging details etc. I didn't have the time. Just shoot and go. I had much to cover. The films were developed back home and the prints also. I often do give over details and give away prints but not so easy sometimes when you are shooting so much. I must have some cards made up I think to just give to people though. That would be a good idea.
Interesting how you were invited in and everyone wanted a photo! Couldn’t imagine that happening in Sandown..😂😂 Inside the coffee shop I imagine you were shooting wide open with the nifty 50 1.8 or 1.4? Lighting on the shots is perfect! Did you take two or three shots to avoid any “ Blinkers” ?
you are so fearless! omg you took some amazing portraits :)
Thanks Jason. It was pretty easy really as the locals really didn't mind and were only too happy for me to take their photo
💰Beautiful Black and White Photojournalist work of art at 3:22 Cheers💰
Thanks. Yes the fruit cart was interesting
Fuji Acros is my go to Black and White film and it killer for night long exposure
Wow! What an amazing experience. Wonderful photos & wonderful people.
They are! Thanks Ted

Hope it wasn't in Summer. I heard it gets incredibly hot there! Yes that old guy was amazing. Thanks Mick
@@ShootFilmLikeaBoss Yes it was in summer Rog, I left some tools on the wing and could not pick them up after.
That was incredibly entertaining! Awesome production and some really great shots!
Thanks a ton!

Thanks Lloyd. It really was easy there.
Great job Boss! That's so cool you got all those portraits at the coffeeshop!
Thanks for watching Yes that was a bonus!
Lovely prints. Black and white really did those shots justice
Thanks for bring us along for the trip! Really wonderful video series and your images are great! The portraits esp are wonderful! 🤩
Thanks Paula and thanks for watching

Cracking film stock there. I'll have to give it a go in medium format.
Great photos!

I imagine it has changed a lot since 1990. Lots of tall buildings going up.

You've really got an excellent eye for a good photo Roger.
Thanks very much!

Good job mate! Steve McCurry would be impressed with your candid portraits. As am I.
Cheers!
Thanks Gord. Had to Google Steve. Thanks for letting me know of him
I really like the portraits.
Thanks a lot.
Gorgeous!
These pics are next level Rog!
Cheers Andrew!
A great adventure, very well photographed. Thank you Roger.
Thanks Lensman! I had a blast there.
Great content. Love the presentation on your channel.
Much appreciated!
Inspiring. Thank you for your great content.
My pleasure!
Wow
Lovely prints and it is nice to see the old parts of Bahrain. Did you mainly shoot using aperture priority mode or did you use manual exposure?
you have so much Material you should join the Royal Photographic Society and go for your Associateship ( ARPS after your name) I got MINE in 1970 for a set on 'Scientific Applications' .
Awesome Pete! Hope you are all well mate.
buitiful film love it
Another great video i love, but i have a question what paper have you use
I used Kentmere VC Select 12x9.5 inch Matt resin. I forgot to mention cheers
Fantastic work Roger
Thanks a lot.
Hi Roger, As usual you gave us another beautiful video. The FM3A is incredible, as is the film you used. How did you handle the X-ray problem at the airport? You bought the films in Bahrain. Thanks again, Edoardo from Milan
I took the films with me. No issue at all with the XRAY. I have heard its sensitive films such as 320 that get affected but don't know for sure.
Per usual your composition is a thing unto itself. Do you have a video where you “focus“ strictly on composition? Love your work!!
Thanks Jon. Not really unless I make a video showing my prints and what went on through my head at the time. I think mostly trying to fill the frame observing what's in the background and having my subject framed accordingly. Either to the left, right or middle.
Great video. Have to apologise Roger but I spat my coffee out when you tripped on the step.
Ha ha, so did my friends. I was lucky! Could have fell backwards onto that scooter
Really love the prints m8 :-) Cracking vid!! :too 🙂
Cheers Bud! :)
How are you finding travelling with film? I'm nervous taking film through Heathrow with the new scanners that'll destroy even ISO 100 film
Wait!!!!! No lite meter?
So how did you meter all the 35mm quick shots?
Love your channel.
Thanks Robby.
Internal camera meter
That's a great film Roger , good to see you off the island !
I love those acros tones and contrast , did you use any colour filters ?
Thanks 👍, I didn't use any filters. I hardly do to be honest, unless I want dramatic sky's. (Red, Orange).
@@ShootFilmLikeaBoss Thanks Boss !! What development did you do on the acros ii ? Cheers!
Do you remember what lens was on the Nikon F6?
Also, did you ask airport security to hand check your films?
Really enjoyed the video, Roger.
No checks at the airport! And the f6 I had a 55mm manual on (if I remember)
realy enjoyed this one!
Glad you enjoyed it!

I was on the 28mm. Nice close and wide. Yeah, imagine that in Starbucks
Great stuff. The female dummies in the bazaar look scary!!
I know right! Thats why I took that photo. Looked creepy
