Malando is the artist name of Arie Maasland (1908 - 1980) a drummer and accordion-player from Rotterdam, Holland, who became once and for all enchanted by the Argentinian tango after seeing Eduardo Bianco perform in 1935. He started composing tangos (i.e. Olé Guapa, - for the first time recorded by Fred Marley's Orchestra in 1938 - is one of his greatests hits that became an international tango standard, and the most played Tango in the world !!!) changed his name to Malando and started his own tango orchestra. He transformed the tango in a continental style: commercial, but sophisticated and never vulgar. Malando had a very succesfull career without many interruptions, produced more than hundred tango albums, wrote more than 150 original compositions, was popular in many countries i.e. Japan and was well recognised in Argentina, homeland of the tango. The legacy of Malando is now in hands of his grandson Danny Overweg Malando who adapted his grandfathers artist name, leading the Malando orchestra and making his grandfathers work sound fresh and contemporary as ever.

Ik had deze plaat (45rpm) en speelde ik achtermekaar op mijn Decca plaat wissel, ik was 15. Nu 68 ik ben zo blij dat ik het gevonden heb. Helaas mijn Nederlandse taal is helemaal verroest (ik ben Italiaan en woon nu in England), maar Malando zal ik nooit vergeten. Bedankt voor the memories.
My favorite tango. Wonderful version. I like so much this amazing tune. (This tango is played by Lillo (cover) on YT. Lillo will be happy to hear this tango).
