    I love the duality of the characters. Mark is severed because he wants to escape the wreck that killed his wife, only for his innie to work with her (at least until she was removed), Helena is severed to promote the severance program and how wonderful it is, while her innie rebels against it and expresses her dislike of the program, and Irving seems to be severed as a way to gain access inside Lumon and expose the company which may or may not be connected to his dad, while his innie was the biggest worshipper on the severed floor.

      Agree with your takes except for Irv's motivations. Think he went to be severed to escape the pain of Burt leaving him for another partner. Tho the PTSD theory also possible. Goats = cloning = Gemma/Ms Casey’s death. She was part of severance before she died. They cloned her dead body and put Ms Casey back in. But they didn’t restore Gemma. This is all laying the ground to bring the board members back. Also could be aligned to the soldier thing. Train a soldier once so he has the skills. Sever him - send him out to battle. @@RL_Sin but I feel the show really isnt as popular as I thought t would be considering how good it is. I mean solely just looking on youtube for reviews and discussion of each episode you can tell ita not that popular of a show. The channels that do cover the show has relatively low subscriber and the only time those high subs channel do this is for the finale and the series as a whole. Which means only 1 video for the entire series.
      This show reminds me a lot of another underrated show, Counterpart, JK Simmons was in it, absolutely brilliant, but I remember watching it and there were 0 or maybe less than 3 channels discussing the show on RUclips. Not really, they probably know about the show but just didnt want to do a video beause they know it's not a really popular show. There were only about 5 channels I think or 4 that consistently do videos on each episode and these high subs 100k over channels only do a video for the finale, because they know for a show that mot so popular the traffic is probably the highest at the last episode because of the season finale cliff hanger.
      These channels are very formulaic. They look at the most popular content and only do videos on that and will drop whatever show it is once they are that ita not getting a lot of attention and discussion.
      That's why they have such a high sub numbers, they know how to do contents that are popular.
      There was another 100k+ channel, that did only 1 vide of this show, a season recap/review with the title "....and season 2 oredictions" and about 1 min before the video ends which runs for almost 18mins, he says," as for season 2 prediction I leave it all up to you in the comments".

    • @LibertyRapsher
      @LibertyRapsher Год назад

      Unfortunately though when it came to Lost it all ended up being under false pretense, but it was exciting as it was initially going on, when we figured the writers had solutions in mind, but it's not difficult to see that this show already knows the story it wants to tell, so I have no worries going forward. What Lost did is the most egregious thing a show has ever done to a fan base before. It's one thing if a show just ends up going down hill, the writing gets crappy and fails or whatever, but to build a bunch of what seem to be really cool mysteries, but they're not, because they have no solutions in mind, but if they continue dangling the carrot they'll keep you interested and by the time you find out that you were scammed it doesn't matter because they already got your ratings. I realized what they were doing I want to say sometime around the 3rd/4th season, but I couldn't believe that their were people who watched the show up until the finale' thinking they would get answers on the mystery elements (the human element is the only storyline that ultimately works). The show excelled in the area that the writers had in mind when they created the show. People stuck on an island in which each person has their own inner struggles to work out... also many of the people are spiritually connected if you will (soul mates, living multiple lives together)... and upon working through and fixing your inner struggles you move on (it's the whole Buddhist thing), but the network needed more, so that's where they forced the mystery element into the story which was the scam in between the human element.

      The show rarely went slow for me. I was entrenched from the start. The middle of the season lags a little bit. The Irving Burt storyline is the most dragging storyline especially on a re-watch. I don't think it drags because of this, but I think they liked the idea of getting a big name like Christopher Watkins more then getting a fitting casting for that role. At no point do I feel the chemistry between those two. Burt looks like a geriatric patient, whereas Irving looks to be a couple decades younger even though we're likely going to find out that he was born in the early 1900's, but maybe it's due to cloning, who knows. The Irving/Burt storyline is essential for Irvings story arc and snapping out him out of his obedience, but the execution was a little off is all. Also Marks Date/s with Alexa dragged on a little longer than necessary.

      I found it funny because the 9 episodes IMHO went super fast plotwise, however I agree with you that sometimes it's painful to watch. Some scenes I completely skipped, almost all the ones with music in the background and useless stuff happening on the screen. Guess the writers forced their hands into the "metaphorical" stuff and also to some details that don't fit in a 1st season of a show, like almost all the Irving/Burt conversations that set up the scene for Irving to start questioning the whole thing, or the dates with Alexa that shows Mark is a regular guy, just with a recent trauma and a very weird job, but both take a lot more time than I felt was necessary.
      However, even disliking a few parts, thinking that a TV show is usually intended to be 3 seasons + long, I thought the plot moved pretty fast for 1 season, we already found out a lot to develop some plausible theories like their floor being just a big test of the chip and their innies (IDK if this is the corretly spelling lol) being on the outside for the first time. I think that what I liked the most that kept me watching even with this painfully slow moments are the clever ideas to put Mark's allegedly dead wife to work at Lumon and also having Helly to be an Eagan with heavy beliefs, just like her innie's, but on the opposite side. I mean... Wow! Talk about self sabotage hahaha

    Such a great season! I was on the edge of my seat the whole finale lbs. I am a little confused on the Gemma/Ms. Casey situation like if it’s Gemma how’d they get her body? why did they pick her? & if they just turn her off & on in the testing room why did she ask about her outie, would she even have one 🤔

      Wonder if Gemma already worked for Lumen when she was killed? Did Mark allow Lumen to keep her alive? Or do employees agree to this piece when they sign on? So creepy.

      she’s clearly some sort of zombie/un-dead experiment. And they are lying to her, I think she is in fact dead and has no outie. The question is, is she a clone? Or did they literally dig her body out of the grave, cover it up and start doing experiments on her inside lumon….pretty freaky shit when you think about it.

    For Irving, PTSD seems like the logical choice, right? It’s our default response when considering members of the military & the issues they may face, understandably.
    But what if Irving was a secret agent or assassin for the CIA. They either don’t want him remembering the “jobs” he did.
    But also a thought 💭- what if discovering his homesexuality was an issue for either the military branch he served &/or against the Eagan plan?
    Is an attempted reprogramming of one’s sexuality on the “to do list” as well?
    There’s so many places it could go & a major part of what makes Severance so fascinating 🧐

    If milchick thought Dylan got that card out of the building, that means the symbol detectors can’t pick up illustrations. And helly can draw. I’m surprised she didn’t draw something trying to get her outie to let her out.

    Here’s the issue with Marks motivation. He’s trying to get time where he doesn’t think about his wife passing but through severance, now he doesn’t get a break from it at all. Through work you can at least focus on other things that you have to do but since he’s always on the outside it’s nonstop. I guess you could say he’s getting a break by essentially taking away 1/3 of his life. But it doesn’t really make sense to me.

    • @LibertyRapsher
      @LibertyRapsher Год назад +2

      It makes perfect sense. If you've ever been in a really low place in your life, you look forward to sleep because you could check out for 6-8 hours where you don't have to feel anything and then you wake up and you're back to your miserable place and if you could you'd check out longer. So he's not taking a break from life persay, he's removing a portion of his painful everyday life. It's kind of like a partial suicide. After his wife died he tried to go back to work, but apparently it didn't go well. The severance process allows him to maintain a job and support himself as well. But if one in Marks mental state had a long term goal of getting better, this would be counter productive to healing, because that removes 8 of time that would bring one closer to healing, however most people in that state don't see the silver lining of eventual healing, they're too in the moment. Even his sister tells him, checking out 8 hours a day is not the same thing as heeling.

    • @GRA5S
      @GRA5S Год назад

      It makes sense to me. The thought of forgetting the tragic death of his wife 8 hours a day 5 or 6 days a week is what convinced him into going through severance. He will not remember it but he knows he won't be tormented by PTSD while he was in there, he was hoping he'll be happy or at least not depressed while he's at work. If only he knew he traded one torture to another.

      Well his sister said he was a school teacher and that he was having breakdowns at school which obviously is not gonna work out very well. He’s not trying to get time where he doesn’t have to think of her…he just wants to be able to work a job without the pain of his wife’s death as a distraction. Get it???

    Lumon can designate “severed” locations. It doesn’t necessarily have to be the “severed” floor at Lumon.

    I'm not sure if I'm overthinking this but a clue that Mark will have his chip reformatted can be shown by the scene 18:44 where Cobel is staring at his neck. We know that from Petey's funeral she removed Petey's chip and they investigated this to learn about what he knew, it's likely that Cobel will get Lumon to study his chip when she's rehired.
    Something I'm confused about is why Selvig/Cobel was trying to convince Mark's outie that he should quit. At the book reading when they hug she really passionately convinces him to leave/get out (I can't remember the exact dialogue), but it's strange. First, I thought it was because she was mad at Lumon and wanted Mark to leave as a way to get back at them. But we see that she is still clearly very indoctrinated and a fighter who cares deeply about the Eagan ethos, so why did she say that?
    Also, I don't think you mentioned this, but something huge to look forward to in Season 2 is learning about Dylan's background. All we have seen from his outside life is that closet where Milchik interrogates him in and his son, and Milchik mentions in the final scene that Dylan also has 2 other children. Besides that, we don't really know anything about Dylan. Unlike the others, he is a family man raising children. Why did he chose to undergo the procedure? We know Irving and Mark are using it as a way to escape their lives, Helly is either doing it to uphold the Eagan plan (or to expose them), but Dylan? Although, there is a chance that maybe Dylan is just the average person that Lumon is trying to market the procedure to. Maybe he chose severance because it just seemed like an easy way to make money without having to actually work, and Lumon are clearly trying any angle to make the procedure seem as accessible and positive as possible.
    I'm really hyped to see what Season 2 has to bring, I hope there isn't a huge gap between now and its release date

      I believe Cobell was initially sympathetic to Mark quitting because she knows what really happens down there, or at the very least, knows there’re being used for some unexplained purpose. When she discovers that Mark is really his innie version, she sees Mark as a threat to Lumon & perhaps more importantly their mission. She’s a true believer in the Keir doctrine as witnessed by her home shrine of the founder. The cult like elements really intrigued me and I believe there is much more to that than the show has let on so far. Also I believe Helly’s father makes a reference to her attending his “revolving” I believe he called it. My suspicion is that plays a part in what is actually going on in Lumon. Can’t wait for season 2.

      I'm guessing Cobel was supportive of Mark getting out when she was still furious with Lumon (like, "yeah, you should get out - ditch those jerks!"). As soon as she saw a way back into Lumon, everything else was forgotten. Whether or not she is a true believer in the cult of Kier, she definitely has an ulterior motive for taking this job.
