Why yes, I did change my pronunciation of the city name a buncha times because I was given at least 4 pronunciations and decided to take the shotgun approach ;-) How would you say it's pronounced?
Please don't think I am being critical, but we lived in Ocala for 8 years in the 1980's and visited Micanopy several times. It is pronounced Mick-an-opie. My parents were antique dealers and I first went there with them when they visited from Massachusetts one winter. My son was only about 4 and they got tickled with his fascination with the anchor, which he called a "yanker". Not far from there is the Marjorie Kinnan Rawlings home and Cross Creek. They filmed part of the movie Cross Creek with Mary Steenburgen in Micanopy. They covered the streets with leaves to conceal the pavement because when she lived there the roads were all dirt. Next time you are in that area you should go visit her home and also the Cross Creek Restaurant where you can get some gator tail! TampaJay did a video about that restaurant but he did not visit Marjorie's home. Maybe you should go together and also eat at the restaurant. He really liked it. Thanks for sharing-it has not changed much since the 1980's!
Lol, I don't take that critically at all- I appreciate that! While I was there, I got yelled out by people for saying Mick-an-opie, and then again for My-can-opie, and then for Mic-ah-nah-py, so from now on, I am gonna call it Denver 'cause I know how to pronounce that one ;-) That is a VERY cool story about the leaves- I hadn't heard that before- THANK YOU! I love stuff like that! As for Tampa Jay, I think we may be getting together tomorrow anyway so I'll bring that up!
@@SplorinRyan I looked up Micanopy on Wikipedia and it actually pronounces the name with sound. I also learned a lot about the Chief Micanopy it was named for. There are so many Florida towns, roads, etc. that are named after Native Americans, and they all are difficult to pronounce by just looking at the name (like Miccosukee). I lived in 2 cities that had Native American names, Ocala and Apopka. Ocala is believed to mean "big hammock" and Apopka means "big potato." Lots of interesting history in Florida!
Love that you ended up saying the name so many different ways; that was something we always talk about on our trips to and from central FL is how to properly pronounce it. Thanks so much for bringing us along with you, absolutely love these small towns filled with so much history and charm!
Forever Florida town and I love it. Great job brother! I have driven through this town a few times to bring some inmates to the nearby Florida State Hospital ( mental institution) it’s definitely on my to do list.
Great vlog Ryan! Very informative and entertaining sir. Of course the bbq at the hole in the wall gas station would be good! And thank you for sharing your experience! 👍🏻🫶🏻
HEY 'SPLORIN...WOW! TODAY'S EPISODE IS SO WELL EDITED, with perfect visuals and descriptions packed with info, that you've brought a small, obscure Florida city into the International spotlight of RUclips. I agree with Greg Connery's Game Room (lol) about that ancient cemetery. Thank you for a great job !
@@bobbyhand1 dang dude, I didn't know it was leukemia... Needless to say, that is a lot to be dealing with, brother! Over the last couple of years I've definitely come to realize that you are one hell of a fighter so my money is on you to kick just a little ass ;)
Great video I love seeing old little towns like this I've never heard of this town so I would have no idea if you didn't pronounce it right but it couldn't be any funnier than hearing tourists pronounce Kissimmee 😂

I was told it’s pronounced my canopy
mick uh no pee
@@vociferating yes that’s right phonetically correct ✅
Fantastic job! Glad you toured the town beyond just that main street! :D
Thank you! That cemetery was freaking INCREDIBLE.
This was outstanding

It's amazing, Florida is packed with these types of towns, but so very few of them are anywhere near Orlando

so worth while!
Been there once you don't hear about this gem alot in Florida I'd love to go back
I'm right with you!

It's funny, barbecue from a gas station sounds like a fantastic idea, but a hot dog at a gas station sounds borderline inedible ;)
Nice little small town.
Thanks brother! I actually thought about you when I was there- I figured you probably knew about it from Doc Hollywood.

Sounds absolutely terrific. How do I find this? Thanks
Not sure if you're at all familiar with the Gainesville area, but if you jump back on 75, I want to say it's two exits South!
